Post by: Dr. Zombie on May 16, 2017, 07:19:24 AM
Am I the only one who has been getting a lot of internal server errors recently?

Today has been particularly bad. Been a lot of:

"Error 404: NOT FOUND!

This domain name has just been registered.

Why is this page displayed?"

pages.

I've been getting a lot too and today when I tried to refresh the topics I was getting taken to a kayak adventure website. I had to close the browser, open up a new page and then link from a bookmark to get the actual LAF to display.

Yeah, generally on searches.  I can load the main page fine.  (To clarify, I've not seen a 404, just the ISE's).

I've had quite a few internal server errors at random times.

I can help diagnose if desired, as it's my day job, but the powers that be probably already have their ways and means!

Here too but it mysteiously stopped after I voted for the Brother Vinni sculpted naked Putin figure astride a bear in round seven. Not sure if the two things are related.

I get both the white, internal server error page and a page that just looks like the domain name has been registered fairly regularly recently - a couple of times yesterday. Weird.

Hi all.

This is a recurrent problem which afflicts the forum every now and then.
I'm not technical in the least, so I can't tell you what causes it or what the cure is.
The Prof usually makes some adjustments with the hosting service and the problem goes away.
Or sometimes it's a tech or capacity problem with the server host. It's rarely a problem with the forum software itself, IIRC.
Unfortunately The Prof is busy/away at the moment, and I'm not sure about Chris, who is the other forum supremo and technically aware person.
I think this is one for The Prof however, and I'm sure he'll get onto it as soon as he is able to.
But I'm afraid in the meantime you might just have to live with the inconvenience of having to try again later for a few days  :)

It's a good job you're not paying for it, right? ;)

Cheers.

Richard

Sorry yes, absolutely - didn't mean it to come across as grumbling from me, more concern over our lovely forum! We'll await the good Prof.

I would guess capacity. But then again I don't even own a mobile phone so technical I am not.

Well... some of us have.  ;)

Now when was the last time I donated...  ::)

Sorry the inconvenience, guys. I'm aware of the issues and already tried to modify the settings, though without much success. Now talking to server provider, they are investigating. Will keep you posted.

Good to know that "the powers that be" are working on it.

I cannot offer much help other than financial if something needs to be updated. It has been a long time since I donated to LAF.

Thanks, appreciated, but no financial support is necessary for this kind of problem :) Looks like there are too many bots out there trying to access the sever and briniging it to a halt from time to time.

Great news, Alex!

Be careful for those bots... some aren't so nice.

Okay, took some preventive action, it should be better now. Let me know if you're still experiencing issues loading these pages. Please consider that I'll be on travel all next two weeks, starting tomorrow with only limited access to emails and internet. But If possible I'll try to intervene. If not, then you could try to use the time and to paint some miniatures or to have some games till my return  :D
