Title: Niche Rules Wanted - Fantasy, Solo and other requirements
Post by: Ethelred the Almost Ready on May 24, 2017, 09:16:39 AM
I am after fantasy rules that I can wargame solo, but also would like character progression for star characters, ability to individualise the main characters, have events occur between battles - random as well as by player choice (making alliances, marriages, fortress burning down), rules for journeying and more!!!

I have been thinking along the lines of ASoBH mashed with Warrior Heroes - Legends, Age of Blood (Viking rules - free PDF) and possibly some RPG elements.  I have read about the Great Pendragon Campaign and The One Ring, both of which have elements that may be useful.

Any ideas or suggestions?   Any rules that already do this?

Sounds like you're after the holy grail, good sir!

(Though I too would be interested in finding it) have you have a look at Mythic? It's an rpg, that could be put on the table with a little work and includes a gamemaster modulator. I've not tried it yet, but got the book and read through it many times.

Hi,
Take a look at the Two Hour War games rules. They can pretty much do all that. They're great fun as well.  ;)

regards, Bill

If you want to mix different rules you could use some elements of Argad! which is a mix of skirmish game and RPG adventures.

The basic rules have not been recently updated in English and may not be practical, but these bits can be useful to you:

(...apologies for akward syntax or grammar in the texts in English) ::)

Yea the Two Hour Wargames Warrior Heroes lineup would be my recommendation - Mash Up Warrior Heroes - Legends and Warrior Heroes - Armies and Adventurers with Rally Round the King and you should be able to cover all this with a little tweaking.  Even if you just adopted the campaign rules used something like ASoBH for the actual fights I think this would work well.

Now that you mention it I have both Pendragon and One Ring and I'll take a look to mine them for ideas too; both have some useful ideas on long term.
