OK, bit of a preamble....about 25 years ago I picked up a secondhand copy of issue 100 of WD. I loved the pics of Michael Immig's (LAF's Dr the Viking I think!) dioramas, especially the one with an Airfix Brontosaurus & howdah. I bought some Snotlings and planned to use an ELC Glyptodont as a basis for something similar. Anyway, nothing came of it, until now, but instead of the Glyptodont I decided to use a Papo Galapagos tortoise, in a little tribute to our pet Redfoot.

The Snotling glued to a piece of balsa is going to be the driver perched just above the tortoise's head:

The wizardy Snot flying the birs is going to be stood on the upended bucket with a shield:

After priming the howdah I'm adding securing ropes, reins and rigging.
Suggestions for improvement/embellishment are welcome.

Heh I picked up that Tortoise for a very similar purpose a while back, for 4A's little fishmen instead of Snotlings. Looking good! :)

How totally and utterly bonkers - in the best way possible! Love this.
Only embellishment I can think of would be some jewellery type chains added which could allow more Snotlings to hang on or even be dragged along by :D

I really hope you'll have as much fun building and painting your Snotling Tortoise as I had with my war beast ... Absolutely looking forward to the finished model! :P

Very nice design with the horizontal beams. I just made three howdahs with vertical toothpicks but I may copy your look. I'm going to put them on top of RAFM Reptiliad War Turtles.
There are so many plastic toy "critters" that cry out for a paint job and a fighting platform...

That's the puppy, still great after nearly 30 years!

Thanks, yep many Schleich & Papo figures cry out for them, as do Tamiya & Revell dinosaur model kits.

Go on! The humies need to shiver with fear once again when the great snotling warlord marches!

Wait....what?.....that was you?!? :o Great stuff Micheal! I didn't realise you've been an inspiration to many(me included) for many years!

Watching with interest
Always nice to see the WD100 stuff
It was on my wall next to Sabrina!

Considering your inspiration & the FINE start you've made, your Beasty & Crew have a tremendous amount of potential. Have FUN with it all!

Well it's been 3 and a half years since I started the Howdah, but I've returned to it. Unfortunately the original WIP pics have not survived Photobucket's tantrum, but here's the current WIP - if it's not primed then it's new work.
Originally it was just going to be manned by Snotlings, but I've decided to add a goblin shaman. It's a Kev Adams sculpt from the old Heartbreaker range, just waiting for it to arrive from Ral Partha Europe. He'll be sat on top of the tower.

The ladder in the pick will be attached to the back of the tower so that the goblin can climb it.

Love it, suitably mad :D

What a great, fun project.

Cheers Akkie! That's what I love about the goblinoids, you can give their war machines that thrown-together, structurally unsound look look..
