The best figure I've ever seen, on the theme of the Asian Cavalry Division Ungern.
Only this figure depicts an officer of the "headquarters hundred", that is, a Cossack hundred for the protection of the headquarters.

Here is a great article on the uniform Ungern division, from which you used the illustration:

Can anyone (Costanzo, Cuprum, Mark Plant, others?) offer their opinion on the accuracy of the information contained on the Kolchakiya site? I'm especially keen to understand that the uniforms of the Baron's Army represented on there are, if not absolutely verifiable, then there's at least some depth of research and certainty about what they're putting forward.
Title: Re: My Baron army
Post by: cuprum on June 26, 2017, 09:47:39 AM
You can safely trust the website "Kolchakia" in matters of uniform. Reconstruction of the appearance of soldiers is made solely on the basis of historical photos and descriptions of eyewitnesses. At present, there is simply no better research.
Title: Re: My Baron army
Post by: Costanzo on June 26, 2017, 12:54:12 PM
I do not have the authority to evaluate the site. I have extracted my information from that (even making mistakes in translation), by reading all the books I've found and studying the photos.

Title: Re: My Baron army

I use acrylic tempera colors of different companies. I start using a medium gray made of white, black, ocher yellow and a little brown. Then I wash with black (valleyo), then subsequent shades adding white to the initial mixture.

I found the flag of the cossacks in the web, but I can’t tell you where because I lost it with my previous computer.
I painted the tunics of the cossacks starting with Vallejo Russian green mixed with yellow ocre and adding white.
Now some Tibetan cavalry, very fun pieces to paint.

The miniature figure of Ungern Von Sternberg sold buon Copplestone is caricatural. So I made my Baron looking at  history, at  the photos but also at the fascinating drawings of Ugo Pratt

Dissatisfied with the grotesque Copplestone’s piece representing Baron Ungern Von Sternberg, I modelled the figure on a piece of the same firm, a mounted Mongolian. Knowing he wore coats in several occasions, I mixed Ungern looking by historical photoes and the fascinating image Ugo Pratt gave us. The Baron dressed as a cossack in 1918 and 1919, in 1919 he married a Chinese princess, from there he wore Mongolian dress with Russian contaminations. In genuary 1921 he wore a red jacket with blue trousers, in february 1921 he was designated Khan. Two of Khan’s privileges were to wear yellow dress and to have yellow bridles. So I represent Ungern, riding his magnificent white horse Stepnik.
