Hi Guys.
Here is one of my latest projects for modular Jenga walls. Lots of bits with added puzzle parts to make doors. Also link to my new Blog.
Not everything is on yet. But I am working on it. Also discovered I had lost some photos in the move from old laptop to new.
So more photos to take.
http://malcybogaten.blogspot.com/2017/07/jenga-walls-and-temple-columns.html
I will still be posting here. Just not quite so many pics.
Thanks for all the help. :)

Inspiring work! THANKS for sharing your ideas. ;)

Still Catching up and seeing what pictures I still have to upload.

I am heading to Birmingham today to see some old friends and stock up a bit at one of my favourite cheap shops. I just hope they are still open.
:D

Hopefully small jenga blocks will be mine. Plus other tat!

Good to see the Lost City back in business!

Fantastic stuff. There's a load of stuff on your blog that I obviously missed the first time around, very inspiring.

I do appear to have lost a lot of my Pics. New Laptop and transferring files into a win10 Environment I think....?
Not used to it yet and not impressed.
Thanks though Pete. It does mean I will have to start taking new pictures very soon.
Here are some old friends.

My Egg Otherworldly Village buildings.

I like the egg huts! I'm off into town today, so I'll have to have a look at The Works, as well as Poundland/world on GW for some paint.
All good cultists wear red, well at least mine all do as well!
-
I have seen similar Egg capsule toys since I built these. Both in Poundland/World and the Works. None quite like these or their contents though.
Good luck. :D

Loads of Boring Looking pics

Not just a Lavvy!

I used more puzzle bits here. The most useful bit was a base section for a kinda pattern puzzle. I just cut and broke away one section to make the entrance way for the columned summoning circle. PDQ rolls covered in address labels give the columns.
The Pentagram is very rough as I had to draw it in after I placed the columns. Bad Mistake for me! Or a very unsteady hand of a cultist?

More pics to come.

Lot of great ideas! THANKS for posting. :D

Nice work!
Thanks again. Pity I am only doing repeats still.
Great stuff! :)
I hope to be doing more new stuff soon.

I look forward to it! This topic's predecessor is responsible for all the jenga sets of varying size and quality dotted about my hobby table, and the sizeable pile of leftover boxes. Whilst my efforts haven't come anyway near the level that you've produced, it's been great fun going wild with a glue gun!

This is inspirational stuff! I wonder if you could tell me where the figures in the first picture come from - the Blackhawk figures?
Thanks Sardoo.
They are rebased heroclix figures. I gave them a very light drybrush. But to be honest they are some of the better painted heroclix and didn't need much at all.
-
You're very welcome! Thanks for the info!

Again the camera showed me where I need to repaint a bit.
Old eyes. o_o

Here's a new bit of terrain with me experimenting with colour on the puzzle pieces. Plus an old chess set made the sacrifice of two Knights.

Excellent additions to the set! Well done.

Hope to do more soon.

The columns look great, I saw a mixed bag of bobbins on a site and thought they would make good columns but couldn't figure how to texture them so didn't buy them.
If I had seen your imaginative efforts first I would have. Good idea.
Cheers

If you want a simple way to do something similar, get some of the wooden spools from the craft shop. Find a good pic that can easily be tiled of a good marble pattern and print off a full sheet of it. Cut it into strips the width of the center section of the spool.
I tend to then use a dowel to stack two of them along with adding a slightly wider wooden base. Paint the entire thing in a stone or metal look you like (I just used gold). When the paint is dry, glue the marble strips over the center flat areas of each spool section with a glue stick. When the glue cures, hit the entire thing with a layer of varnish, then a gloss coat over the marble sections.
They look great for columns

Hi SotF Sorry I'm being a bit dense here, do you have a photo of what you are suggesting because it sounds like you are getting a good result. I'm not sure that you should post it on here unless MalcyBogaten is OK with that, I don't want to hijack his thread, otherwise you could stick it on one of my game threads.
Cheers
-
I don't mind. But a bit of explanation with pics may help.
My method is fairly simple. After all what you need is a block of wood and labels.
But I like to see other ideas. :)

At the moment, I don't. Lent them out to a friend for his D&D game. I'm thinking of making more of them anyway when I have a few days without little kids around that I don't need to keep stuff up and away from them since my work room is about the only one with spaces for their playpens that they sleep in...

A new Bridge I am working on. Made from a pin board from Poundland and other bits from the spares box.

I finally got around to basing and painting in a very loose manner. The Spiders from Tesco last year.
Here is a taste. More Pics on Blog.

All I really did was paint the bases and then pva and scatter them. Then just do a red and then orangey highlight for a Tarantula style.

I found this recently. A festive Wild West style train. Really only got it because of the Wagons. The Coal Tender is a bit awful. Engine may look good when I get around to it.
But!

Actually looks quite nice! One of the better such sets I've seen!
Where'd you pick it up?
I got it from a shop called "Bargain Buys." I thought they had closed along with their sister company Poundworld. But a new one opened in the town where I live.
The first stock of these sets disappeared like lightning! Especially seeing as I was wondering whether to get one at the time. (Bloody Wargamers! :D) So when they re-appeared I got one straight away.
The tracks look a bit strange to me. But at least you get some straight bits in them. I may still just get some plastic former rails and lay my own.

Any updates from Jaffa? ???
:'( Sorry. It has been a bit to dark in the Jaffa room. Sunlight is not happening and it makes piccies very dull.
I also need to stock up on crafting materials. But my sources in my town are drying up. Hope to do more soon.
Meanwhile. A proper Piccy of Doug.

Well, happy hunting. Your work is always an inspiration!
Tried my Luck as the Backroom looked a little brighter this afternoon.
Just started this little add on. But lacking a Portcullis for it. Hope to find something suitable from a Haberdashery shop. Needle point canvas looks to be a good bet. Hard plastic stuff in a suitable grill.
But here is the the start with a stand in from another build at the moment. More on the blog.

I again may be forced by matters beyond my control to go silent on Jaffa and projects.
Google are withdrawing certain services and this may effect my Blog. On which I host my pictures to link in here.
I hope it doesn't effect the Blog. While not the best. It at least gives me a picture host to show my Idiocy! And without pictures I feel there is no point in posting.
I am trying to find out more. But as is typical. The e-mail I received late last night was full of legal mumbo jumbo. I would just like someone at these corporations to say. "These are the services that will be effected." Then list them.
Here's hoping I will be able to keep the Blog. If not time to hunt for another then upload everything again. :'( :'( :'(

Getting in a quick piccy or 2!
My Ruined gateway. I finally got my Portcullis mesh. Finished off the gateway.
The Gate in place.
The stuff I used. 100mm square 7 mesh needlepoint canvas plastic. I found on ebay. 5 of these in a packet. The more I got the cheaper they were a packet. It is great and useful stuff.
Hope you like.

That's good stuff. I use it, too. Also good for a grate over a pit of burning coals.

Thanks General. Yep a ton of uses.
Another new bit I started today.

This is a double Gate made out of the same stuff. Hinges are a bit sticky. Don't open as freely as I would like. I am going to be tinkering with them. But promising start.
Also the other one more in place.

I can obviously move them in the modular fashion I love. :)

Very cool! It is always great to see what you come up with. ;)

Any ideas on how to make Egyptian style pillars from scratch? I have trouble with the irregular, bulging shape. They are not perfectly straight like Greek columns.
-
Any ideas on how to make Egyptian style pillars from scratch? I have trouble with the irregular, bulging shape. They are not perfectly straight like Greek columns.
Hmmmm. I had a look at various types of Egyptian Pillars online.
These do look a little perplexing to get the bulbous bulging sections of the column to look right. At least in my minds eye and using my usual methods. ???
I thought about wrapping multiple layers of ever smaller strips of address labels around the same section. To build up the bulbous shape? But that would also leave edges rather than a gradual curve. I suppose you could sculpt Milliput over it as well and smooth it. But that would be fiddly to do. Not quick and easy like I do.
As for the ones that have the rounded ridges running up their entire length? In 28mm scale... Again something that first occurred to me was corrugated cardboard. But that again could be weak and fiddly to affix to a suitable scaled column.
Anyone else with workable ideas? Dive in. I'll keep it in mind though.
-
If you know anyone with a woodworking lathe they could made half a dozen in a few minutes from scrap wood.
-
Not sure this would work, but have seen nice columns cobbled together from selected bits of wooden candlestick holders. Google images can supply some quick visuals, and the prices seemed reasonable (3 or 4 dollars each). Just took a quick gander and some candle bases and tips looked pretty usable. Perhaps build a frankenstein column using many different pieces glued and sanded into smoothness and cast as a master?
Here is a link to a possible piece-donating candidate?
https://www.consumercrafts.com/store/details/catalog/basics-wood-dowel-rods-and-turnings/9117-32?dssagcrid=lid=92700038490084894&ds_s_kwgid=58700004583139204&ds_s_inventory_feed_id=97700000002797437&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQiAtbnjBRDBARIsAO3zDl-z2H87eNE0_HBUwqTUEWmCCSI5Y3CBR_3aq4PzWtF-dDd4kIP14wEaAgmZEALw_wcB
-
The candlestick is an intriguing idea. The right type of handle may work, too. I will have to scrounge around at the Scrap Exchange.
-
All good ideas. I would add to have a look at cake toppers/decorations. Wedding cakes had columns as layer supports. Some were plaster and others were chalk.
Also keep an eye open in cheap sections of toy shops. Sometimes in the army men section there are hidden jewels in a bag of them.
But I think your best bet may be ornaments from something like a scrap exchange.
I nearly always have a look in places like those or charity shops. Never know what you may find.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Well I am basing and have vined up the place a bit. Hairy string and cork tiling time. Also loads of Polyfilla!
The front.

How did it turn out? ???
Sorry General
I was looking for a suitable Entranceway to continue with the Temple. I have found something I think will work now. Only got it yesterday from the works.
But sorry to say I would have been a lot quicker if I hadn't had such a recent run of being seriously ill.
I caught a Virus about 2 months ago and that floored me. Then just as I got over that. I put my back out and couldn't move or sleep without severe pain. Both exhausted me totally. Last 2 weeks I have had to do a useless course that was compulsory. So that left me no time and I already knew everything on the course anyway.
I am now getting set to continue with the Temple. Had plenty of time to plan my next steps. So soon I hope to have it done.
Again I am sorry to all who have been waiting.

Well here is the El-Viz. Not quite finished the Building. More base detail to do and the back needs a bit more work.
Further mods will doubtless be made as I think of them.

As always more on the blog. Sorry I haven't had time to put it into a scene. Table is going to be cleared for Friday and a game of some sort.
