I know some people received the dwarves at salute, which makes me think they must have them produced, and with my barbarians being wrapped up, I was thinking I would love to get my hands of some of the halfmen.

It was a "sample" sprue that was available in limited numbers at Salute 2017 I think
The most detail I currently have seen is

I'm looking forward to getting these, but I'm getting bored seeing continued "previews" of the dwarves. Hopefully they start talking soon.

They put a bunch of previews on their Facebook page, dwarfs with hand weapons/spears/bows all ranked up and painted. They stated that the figs were going to be ready "this year" with the rumored mass battle fantasy rule set coming "next year".
Figures looked good painted and ranked up.

I hate to bring up a post from over a month ago, but has there been any update on these? I wouldn't mind picking up some during the Frostgrave Nickstarter to save on some overseas shipping.

I received a reply this morning from North Star. They are waiting for the printers to do the boxes and then they can release the Dwarf set. So hopefully still on for the end of the month. ;D

They've released pictures of the characters, and in the comments have said that heavy infantry is planned for the Dwarves.

Yep, I'm more anxious to see the baddies...as I've no use for the dwarfs. But the refreshingly non-over-the-top styling does give me great hope for the Orcs and Goblins (the goblin tease already looks very very good to me).

Ordered a box of dwarves and the character sets.
Of course I don't need any more dwarves, but they're good (though I still haven't done anything with the sprue I picked up at Salute) and yes, they're nicely restrained. Although I'm slightly sad at the lack of any two-handed axes, mattocks and the like (on the sprue, anyway), this is probably a fair price to pay for the weaponry they do have being sensibly sized.
From what I remember, and the teaser pics, the goblins should be good for the heftier type of soldier orc (in Tolkien terms).
The elves are going to be in Noldorin/Gondolindrim type armour, or so I was told, so unfortunately the Battle of the Five Armies is out, but I suppose one could have a go at Nirnaeth Arnoediad... posing the question, of course, what plastic set to use for the Edain - Frostgrave barbarians with some added elven helmets, perhaps? But this way madness lies...

Good news about the elves.
Northstar have said they will be releasing regiments of men that are more military than the frostgrave sprues. I hope they do stick to a dark age/Tolkien look rather than the renaissance look GW uses.

Interesting re the men. Agree that a dark age style would be better than renaissance (or even high medieval, although the Frostgrave soldiers approximate to that already so it may be less likely). Will depend a bit on the sculptor, I suppose. Not really a fan of the Frostgrave soldiers, but I like the barbarians. Worth keeping an eye out for anyway.
Now, if the elven armour is anything like (say) that in the Alan Lee illustrations to The Children of Hurin, then all sorts of fun could be had...

That's my hope! if they could capture that kind of look i'd be very very happy.
I believe they've said that whilst the miniatures will be compatible, there is no connection with frostgrave.
