Title: Oppy Wood - finally played
Post by: TWD on July 13, 2017, 08:43:39 AM
Back in May James Morris and I took a demo game to Partizan based on the action involving the Hull Pals battalions at Oppy Wood in May 1917.
As is the way of Wargames shows we spent a lot of time talking to interested visitors and explaining what we'd done and why (and occasional running off to look at other games and buy more toy soldiers) and as a result not much of the game actually got played.

So the stars finally aligned, diaries we're freed up and James and I, with the able assistance of Simon, who drove over from deepest darkest Derbyshire to help out, were finally able to play the entire action through.

It played out pretty historically, but you can read an AAR and see plenty of pretty pictures over on the blog:

Thanks for the write up, Tom! It was a very convivial evening and the historical result was just fine- can't complain about that, given the scenario.  You forgot to mention the heroic aerial intervention of the RFC, who actually did some damage with a very lucky strafing run!

I didn't so much forget as not have any pictures of Biggles and Algy to illustrate their sortie.
