Ever since I picked up congo at the end of last year I had wanted to paint some of my Darkest African horde from Foundry. The good Dr Mathias inspired me to purchase way too many of them a few years ago plus they had a sale...
Anyway, I will try to clear the table of at least these:

Looks like a nice force :)
-
Cool! Always want to see more of this sort of thing!
-
Interesting.
Let them come. :)
-
I think I need to work on my lighting but here is the first group anyway.

Nice skin tones.

Nice skin tones.
Agreed, the overall unity of the figures and shields is great. Are those the Northstar spears?
-
Thanks for comments.
I bought a lot of spears from Warlord UK a few years back when I painted a Dacian force. They might be the same. Real metal with real sharp points. I leave them unpainted as a reminder/warning...

Good looking unit! :D

This project is not dead though it was mostly dead for a bit. Finally managed to finish basing the painted units.

Replaced the picture for one without dog hair...

I really need a lot more practice at freehand. Need to stop typing all day and drinking coffee too.

The last "unit" finished in December:

A little thread necromancy as I finally finished the last unit of Askari that were sitting forlornly on my painting table.
Maybe life will let me get back to painting this summer. ::)

Nothing wrong with a little necromancy if there's something new!
Good work, I like the civilians as well.
-
Thanks. It is a great line of figures.
-
What's your basing method? I like that low scrub look on the Askaris. I recognize the Siflor tufts.
-
First coat is Durhams "rock hard" water putty mixed a little soupy and dipped in sand. Pictors Studio recommended it as a base putty a few years ago. My tin should last another 30 years at the rate I am using it. lol
I paint that over with a craft paint or two (you can mix that in the putty). then superglue and flock/tufts. The flock is Forest green mixed with yellow.
