I will try and get some momentum going on a Landsknecht army. This is my current august status.
Some hand gunners. There is a Landsknecht company from saxony called the black band. And I figure they would wear black.

Pikemen on the way.

They are all warlord plastics with a few perry heads thrown in.
-
Yes indeed, they wore black and red, just as you painted them.
-
Great stuff Frede :)
-
Uak!
There's so many of them! :o
I am sure you will make a spectacle looking force in force!
-
Great stuff Fred :)
cheers
James
-
Nice work on those, liking the black themed clothing :)
-
Thanks all.
I have painted up one unit of pikemen earlier. The got lost in the warp by the Photobuckets F* you internet stunt. So I figure I might as well for completenes sake show them here.

That plastic spears?
They're going to be delicate!
-
I am not to worried.
I have not heard a lot of complaints about the Perry medieval mercenaries spears breaking. And these are similar to them.
Besides I try to not throw my minis around to much.
-
Very nice. A nice hint of what is to come next. :)
-
I tried some old Empire plastic bits with the warlord Landsknechts. One of them has Perry halberd arms and they are certainly a much better fit. But for the ranks the GW bits are ok'ish. The heads work but the hands are on the large side. Weirdly the old GW metal bits have smaller hands and head.

Nice conversions especially like the one with the metal gw bits although I have never seen those bits before. Are they still available as they look useful?
-
Looking good!
That metal sleeve wins the 'puffiness award' though :)
-
Nice conversions and good use of the old Empire halberdiers :D
-
How long before gamers start representing them as negroid too, I wonder....
-
Huh!?
-
Black legion, you know. Someone's going to draw the wrong conclusion some day.

Something like this ?

I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I just admire the Dr. for taking on the slashes and pikes :)
-
Looks pretty good. The one I wonder about quite often is whether there were any melanistic Cossacks, possibly absconding slaves of the Turks. Runaway serfs and slaves were welcome to join if they learned Ukrainian and professed themselves Orthodox believers, and there are records of Cossacks from very far afield (Italians, Spaniards, Englishmen). Was there a colour bar, or are we painting our shaven-headed axemen too uniformly in their skin tones?

Amazing bling on that armour!

I finished a unit of Handgunners.

And i am working away on another pike unit.
-
I do enjoy that color scheme.
-
Nice progress
-
Looking good. I always struggle to paint black uniforms.
-
Me too. I thought doing a black company was an easy shortcut. But it wasn’t. The next units will be multicolored with very limited black.
-
Finished most of a unit of pikemen. It is still two bases short but you get the idea.

-
Those Black uniforms really came out well. Where did you find the flags?
-
I bought some from Flags of War. But the black flag I painted myself.
-
I finished the last two bases for the pikemen.

And I took a picture of the entire Black Legion part of my army to be.

They look great! Ready for battle! Keep up the good job!
-
Very fetching. The commander, however, looks as if he's just turned up for his dinner date with Don Giovanni.
-
Good work, I've never painted a pike unit- they sure do look cool :)
-
I am in the process of painting some canons. Here I a quick work in progress picture.

Very nice work! :-*
Very envious of the project itself, I just don't have the guts to even think about starting a landsknecht project, not even a skirmish one... someday, someday... :`
-
The cannons are now finished. I tried to make some of the crew quite dirty as working cannon is dirty work. I am not sure if I have quite managed. The master gunners are clean and neat naturally.

Lot's of Ukrainians retrain the Tatar hair color and even a swarthier cast to their skin. I suspect that the Cossacks took in anybody that wanted to join. This is a bit after the period at hand, but Pushkin's grandfather was African and rose to high rank in the Czar's service.

More on point, your army looks great.

Mmmm, I remember that one. He was rather proud of it, too.

Hmm. I guess it is time to do a status on my armypainter 2017 progress.
I managed to paint a unit of pikemen a unit of handgunners and two cannons. Not a complete failiure but not a smashing succes either. In my defence I must say I have been waiting on some kickstarter landsknechts to start building out some units I have planned. But a seemingly endless string of delays and excuses means that I am not counting on recieving anything until summer. That has put me somewhat of the whole project.
But then again Steel Fist has lovered their prices for their awesome minis so I have gotten some of them as the new prices fit more with my hobby budget. And I am now working up the courage to start stabbing som paint on them.
-
Guess that's the 28mm Landsknechts (Landschnecks!) Kickstarter? I'm waiting for mine too.
But I think your progress has been OK. The quality matters too, and your's are beautifully painted. :)
-
I have decided to revive this thread.
It died out because of a debackle with a landsknecht kickstarter. I got the models just around two years later that the supposed delivery date. And the minis were horrible! They were both miscast and had great big halos of flash around them and the detail was nowhere near what was shown in the kickstarter. And they suffer a great deal from blisterpack syndrome. I have had the minis in a box ever since. Once i an while i look in the box but always it made me sad.
But now i have decided that they are not going to break me! I am going to polish these turds up and make them at least passable for the gaming table.
Here is the first efforts. The handgunner bases also have some warlord minis mixed into them.

And just as I post this picture I am reminded to paint my base edges...

I get that a lot as well, though usually it's forgetting to remove random bits of flock off the figures. :)
As for the painting, you've made a good looking unit there.
