Okay I am late on the bandwagon... lol
But inspired by the new episodes I started my own Game of Thrones-Project.
I try to paint up a few factions for an intended multiplayer, with lots of action, treason, murder and so on....:)
The warbands will be 15 man strong. And I will game with an easy version of "This very Ground"...house ruled and so..
I will try to get the typical stuff of the houses in the little warbands, but there will be no major characters from the books. Would feel odd to me like Göring being the chef of my Luftwaffenfeld-Division at Boltaction or Napoleon leading my Drums and Shako-french...;)
And in the first step vereryboby will be on foot.
Okay her are the first pics of the Lannisters.
The minis are a wild mix of every plastic box I could lay my hands on, with a few metal minis spinkled in.
(http://i.imgur.com/B5WDZgrl.jpg) (http://imgur.com/B5WDZgr)
And a kind of top view to make the force organisation more transparent:
The warband will be lead by a Ser.
There will be a Champion, a 5-6 man CC-troope, 3 missle troops, a 3 man support (here a few savages from the hilltribes) and 2 man non combat unit for taking mission objectives...
(http://i.imgur.com/tKFhWkTl.jpg) (http://imgur.com/tKFhWkT)
Perhaps I have to make each unit 1-2 minis bigger...have to make a playtest for that...:)
All painted in a day... o_o lol
Cheers,
Don
-
This is really nice and inspiring. I hope you make warbands for many more factions.
-
Looking good! Nice use of the Fireforge Russian shields for Lannister heraldry.
-
They look great, already looking forward to what you'll do for the next ones.
-
Looks really good!!! And what a great productivity when you manage to paint that all in one single day!! :o
-
Ooo shiny 8)
cheers
James
-
very nice start
-
They look great ... And all painted in one day?! I have no idea how some of you can paint so fast!
-
Stealing the Russian Lion shield idea for my Lannisters, that's too good. :-*. Great painting and the kitbashing is on point. What house are you doing next?
-
Looking great. Which one is Ed Sheeran? :)
-
Thanx guys....;)
Okay here is the next warband: House Stark...:)
Took me another day and a half cause of all the wolves I had to paint....;)
(http://i.imgur.com/H0r70ATl.jpg) (http://imgur.com/H0r70AT)
Cheers,
Don
-
Looking good! Get to the other houses!
-
Looking great. Which one is Ed Sheeran? :)
It ought to be a casualty figure, with broken guitar, and severed vocal cords. Either that or a special rule to make any enemy in hearing distance take a compulsory rage test.
-
Fast work as usual! :o
I've added this thread to the LAF GOT compendium thread :)
-
a day and a half !? Man you are quick . Would have taken me at least a week ( that is when not having to do my day time job ;))
-
Thanx for the comments guys.... ;)
Get to the other houses!
...as you wish... o_o lol
Okay, here is next faction: a small warband of the greyjoys.
Like a shipscrew acompanied by a drowned man...
(http://i.imgur.com/TgpmTuRl.jpg) (http://imgur.com/TgpmTuR)
Shields could perhaps get a little bit more used look....:D
(http://i.imgur.com/ycbwPtzl.jpg) (http://imgur.com/ycbwPtz)
This warrband took me a little longer cause of all the krakens...:)
I've added this thread to the LAF GOT compendium thread...
Thanx, but I cant see it...;)
Cheers,
Don
-
Well that's odd. Perhaps I previewed it but failed to post it. I'll do it again when I'm back online tonight.
Nice Greyjoys...
-
A little surprised you gave them crossbows, but they look great. Really like the shields on those guys! :-*
-
Wow, really love those! Your best ones so far, andik the others wereof already so brilliant!
-
Great work! You're a quick painter on top of nice work.
-
I've DEFINITELY added you to the LAF GoT compendium thread... ;)
-
Thanx gents....:)
Just quick a new house: the tullys...:)
The inlaws are coming so I am in a bit of a rush...;(
Put a few of my WotR-minis in with some added fish badges ...;)
(http://i.imgur.com/63qH2LYl.jpg) (http://imgur.com/63qH2LY)
Cheers,
Don
-
Hope you had a good time with the inlaws and liking the fish guys :)
-
Are those Tully shields also freehand? Really impressive! :-* They look more than ready to be pinched by the other regions of Westeros like proper Riverlanders. lol
-
:-* :-*
-
Thanxx, gents....;)
Here is the next house: the Freys....:)
(http://i.imgur.com/355Y8y3l.jpg) (http://imgur.com/355Y8y3)
The leader is still on the painting table, but you see the first flag....;)
@Inlaws
Wasn't tooo bad...;(
@Freehand
Yes. To dumb for decals...;)
A little surprised you gave them crossbows...
I see them as a ships crew, so crossbows make sense for me.
And I needed an excuse for the pavaises... lol
Cheers,
Don
-
Beautiful bands, i wish i was a tenth as quick as you are...
-
Love those Frey shields.
-
again nice new house
-
That flag is brilliant!! :o
-
In the time you've painted 5 warbands I've painted 9 miniatures.
What's your secret? Have you mastered lucid dream painting? lol
-
What's your secret? Have you mastered lucid dream painting? lol
+1

Thanx gents.....;)
After a little sidestep in Frostgrave I am back in the GoT....:)
After seeing the very inspiring pics of Cpt. Bloods multiplayer I wanted my warbands to be a little bit bigger.
So here are the first reenforcemenst for the Lannisters.
(http://i.imgur.com/VuQSB9Fl.jpg) (http://'http://imgur.com/VuQSB9F')
And here the Lannisters so far. The barbarians need a lttle bit more attention.
So for the dark pic...my second lamp killed itself today....;(
So its a little bit of a night attack....:D
(http://i.imgur.com/7VCuFaVl.jpg) (http://'http://imgur.com/7VCuFaV')
Cheers,
Don
-
Great warbands, with such a wide range of kits used. Thanks for sharing :)
-
Excellent additions :-*
-
Thanx, gents....;)
Tried today a little addition for the Starks: a small detachment from bear island....:)
Wild mix of figures: bear is from Reaper Bones, old metal archer bought some time ago for a euro, teh bearded fellowwith the big axe was a gift...
The flag is hand painted over a print. Quick and dirty....:)
(http://i.imgur.com/OTEaOU1l.jpg) (http://'http://imgur.com/OTEaOU1')
Cheers,
Don
-
Absolutely fabulous painting and the kit bashed mini's look great, as has been said so many times how you manage this standard of painting in the time is unbelievable! Hope there's more to come you, like Captain Blood have given me lots of great ideas :)
-
Lovely! Very impressed with the speed and quality of your work mate!
-
I really like your painting style and your output is unbelievably fast. Your shields and flags are particularly impressive.
-
nice new additions
-
Thank you, gentlemen....;)
Here are few more additions. This time for the Starks...
Builded first time with the new scandinavians from Fire Forge Games.
Really nice set...recommended....;)

-
That flag! :-* :-* :-*
Yes, wow! :-*
-
Love the standard bearer in particular, great build! I need to get some Scandinavians at some point....
-
Do you make the flags yourself? Are they painted free hand as they superb :)
-
As I said, the flags are printed out and then quickly overpainted...;)
Okay, here is the small update for today.
Some more greyjoys and a few stark wolves...
(http://i.imgur.com/aRrmd1rl.jpg) (http://imgur.com/aRrmd1r)
Sorry no flags today...:)
Cheers,
Don
-
Excellent work mate!!!
Very inspirational! Keep them coming.

Thanx, DoS....;)
Here is a quick pic of the Stark forces so far painted.

Okay...here is a short dubble post with some new mercenaries.
(http://i.imgur.com/ayXSrezl.jpg) (http://imgur.com/ayXSrez)
Plundered 10 different spures: ACW Zuaves, Warlord Celts, Scandinavians, Warriors of Cartaghe Victrix, Mongoles, Frostgrave Soldiers, Aarabs by Gripping beats, Perry mercanaries and Sudan Ansar, Fireforge Templar Infantry... :o o_o lol

Woah, quite the ersatz combination! Looks quite effective. :)
-
Mein gott! You have made and painted as many figures for Game of Thrones in four weeks as I have painted in four years!
You are a painting machine, man!
-
More great additions. They look fantastic laid out in all their glory. Thanks for sharing
-
Fantastic collection you've built up there. In the time it took you to do that, I don't think I've even painted a single miniature...
-
Thanx for the replies....;)
Here is the start of a new faction: the Boltans.
(http://i.imgur.com/5zpKWasl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/5zpKWas)
@Captain Blood
You have made and painted as many figures for Game of Thrones in four weeks as I have painted in four years!
Ja, well...thats quick and dirty vs. high end show case. Every miniature of your collection is a piece of art. Mine art gaming pieces....:D
And art takes time....one thing I know...;)
Cheers,
Don
-
Ah, the Boltons. Everybody's favourite bad guys. Love those shields. They look great.
I'll probably get lynched (or flayed) for saying it around here (lots of book purists about), but I think the TV version of the Bolton sigil looks much cooler than the book one.
-
Nice work. Do love the pink clad baddies.
I agree the HBO sigil is very striking - kind of Third Reich overtones I always feel. It's the addition of the black that makes it work of course.
Martin's original description of a red flayed man on a pink field was never going to look like anything other than a pinky-red mess. Not good heraldry, whichever way you look at it... ::)
It's the author's weird notions of heraldry that remind you it's a fantasy, despite a lot of it being a plausible pseudo-history set in medieval times.
Apart from the dragons, white walkers etc, obvs...
-
The funny thing is, the HBO Bolton sigil reminds me of the Union Jack.
-
Nice work. Do love the pink clad baddies.
I agree the HBO sigil is very striking - kind of Third Reich overtones I always feel.
Really? I think it looks very much like the Union Jack. :)
-
nice additions and as Richard said painting machine!
-
Mein gott! You have made and painted as many figures for Game of Thrones in four weeks as I have painted in four years!
You are a painting machine, man!
I'd echo, the good Captain's comments. While his minis are undoubtedly works of art, I'd not diss your efforts one iota. The speed and standard you have achieved with your minis is something I aspire to.
I'd also echo everyone's comments about the HBO Bolton sigil. I'm revisiting my Northern Houses and I'd agree with Capt. B, that the book-version Bolton sigil seems less well realised and tame by comparison. My attempts have also met with little success. The whole upside-down flaying idea works well though, and seems to stem from Titian's 'Flaying of Marsyas'. I shall be using that in future, though probably not the X frame motif...
-
The Boltons look great! :-* I'd be interested to read a quick overview of your painting method, it looks great and seems to be quick! :)
-
You're certainly mixing lots of different parts and the results speak for themselves, all seems to be coming along nicely.
-
Thanx gents....:)
Here is the next bunch. A few crossbowmen for the Boltons.
(http://i.imgur.com/MBGcxN0l.jpg) (https://imgur.com/MBGcxN0)
@Books vs. TV
I am not a hardcore fan. Read a few books and watched the TV stuff. But I try to do what feels right...:)
Red on Pink....no way... o_o lol
Cheers,
Don
-
Wow! Those Boltons look great!
-
Found a decent shade of pink there; for that reason alone I would not dare start any Boltons myself!
Sigil looks great too.
-
Thanx gentleman.
Here are a few additions for the Freys. This time only old metal....mostly from Citadel/Foundry...
(http://i.imgur.com/r29O6lcl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/r29O6lc)
Cheers,

Very impressive!

Those old citadel figures are some of the best medievals out there (imo)
-
Thank you very much....:)
Here are the mercenaries I builded a few days ago.
Tried a little bit more colour on these....;)

Reckon you've got enough for a good game now.
-
Fantastic, now I have to visit Berlin so that we can have a game or two. :)
-
These should made for a wonderful looking game. The mix of parts in the last update does make my wallet itch a bit... So many shiny plastics out there.
-
More great additions. Thanks for sharing:)
-
Thank you gentemen for your encouraging comments....;)
Here are a few men for the Tullys. a small band from House Blackwood.
(http://i.imgur.com/9bkmGpMl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/9bkmGpM)
The flag looks a little bit more red in reality...;)
@enough men
I am planning for a 6-men game for the end of the month...so I am a bit in a hurry....:D
Cheers,
Don
-
Cracking! Your minis look great and what is astonishing is the speed at which you're completing them!
-
Heraldry is just incredible!
-
Lovely work on House Blackwood :-*
Those are my favourites so far...
-
Thanx gents....;)
Today I have a little detachment of the old enemies of House Blackwood....House Bracken.

Here are a few hedge knights and sellswords and such.
Probably bandits...;)

Since my last comment on this thread I have painted half a miniature.
You have build at least 3 playable warbands.
Whatever magic you have, i think it's only fair that you share it! lol
-
Yes, and they're all painted so nicely too! Lovely job, incredible output.
-
More great additions, such variety, thanks for sharing :)
-
They are all the dog's bollocks. I feel the need to get cracking on my own houses and I get a few ideas from you how to balance the colours to a grittier look.
-
I agree with all the previous comments. These are cracking additions to the Westeros ensemble!
-
Very nice additions indeed
-
Thanx, gentlemen....;)
Finished a few flags today and did a new overview picture of the forces so far.
(http://i.imgur.com/PD2nudhh.jpg) (https://imgur.com/PD2nudh)
@magic
I have a cold a had to stay at home for a few days...everytime I got bored, I painted 1 or 2 miniatures... :D
Feeling much better now...;)
So less a kind of magic, more to bored to watch TV.
They are all the dog's bollocks.
Would you mind translating that for a poor german, who learned his english at school... lol
Cheers,
Don....:)
-
It's the Cat's Pyjamas or the Bee's Knees...
...for vulgar people (such as Hammers). ;)
(It means something that is very impressive or sought-after, top quality.)
-
By the old gods and the new, that picture really brings home the scale of your rapidly produced collection! What a glorious sight.
-
Not only is this wonderful eye candy, it's also proving a really effective shaming mechanism for my own slow (lack of) production! :o lol
-
Impressive collection, and in such a short space of time, wow!
Dog's bollocks basically means really good :)
Apparently it derives from old packing terms, if you can believe what they say on QI, when normal packaging was classified as 'box standard' and the better quality version was known as 'box deluxe', which over time have become 'bog standard' and 'dog's bollocks'
-
Not buying that QI derivation for a second. A ham-fisted erroneous folk-etymology if I ever saw one. I thought they were better than that.
It is, in fact, a load of old bollocks. :)
-

Okay, here is the next house from the riverlands: House Ryger.

-
To make the handling of the minis a little easier, I started building a few sabbotbases. At least for the bigger units....:)

Very nice. A lot like mine ;)
(I've got a tutorial on here somewhere!)

Oh, no....I missed them.
Wich page on your GoT-Thread, please....;)
Oh dear...ivented the ironing once more....;)

There are only so many good ideas in the world of wargaming, and they have mostly been done before...
But to be fair, it was a long tome ago... ;)

I've not heard about this How to... Neatly executed as usual, Richard.
-
So in my upcoming multiplayer I wanted to do something like a convoi thing.
Of course inspired by the last episodes....;)
So I needed a few wagons.
I graabbed some plasticcard and scrape away....;)
(http://i.imgur.com/2WScaMKl.jpg) (http://'https://imgur.com/2WScaMK')
For the wheels I used some bases...:)
(http://i.imgur.com/yvaXgVpl.jpg) (http://'https://imgur.com/yvaXgVp')
And the I led the plastic glue flow....;)
(http://i.imgur.com/pOz94gGl.jpg) (http://'https://imgur.com/pOz94gG')
A few of the details I did with greenstuff.
(http://i.imgur.com/tValXSRl.jpg) (http://'https://imgur.com/tValXSR')
..and while I was glueing away I just did a few plain minis.
(http://i.imgur.com/pYAj8YAl.jpg) (http://'https://imgur.com/pYAj8YA')
Luckyly I already have a few animals to pull the wagon.
(http://i.imgur.com/1OOcAbGl.jpg) (http://'https://imgur.com/1OOcAbG')
...so...have to go to bed....:)
Cheers,
Don.... lol
-
Very nice!!! I used to do this kind of technique a while ago, but apparently all the plasticard i'm buying recently is far too hard for that. I remember the older one as slightly more malleable. Do you have a link for yours?
Cheers
Jack
-
Sorry, I am afraid not.
I buy this stuff at a very old-school toy shop with no internet presentation. The plasticcard is not labeld in any way...just the price....sorry.
DV
-
I feel your pain. I have much the same problem with my modelling projects. I source a good material, use it all up and look for more only to find it's an offcut of an unlabelled material I can't identify to replicate. I applaud your plasticard morphing...!
-

Aww, too bad! Thank you anyways! I might just return to the shop where i bought it ages ago, hoping they still have some.
Cheers

Okay, here are the new troops and the wagon....:)
I painted them in a ratherbrownish tone so that I can add them to any faction.
(http://i.imgur.com/WvctO5Yl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/WvctO5Y)
And the wagon with some paint...

Well that's a thing of beauty!

nice indeed

Lovely work. I do like to see a good kit-bash. The wagon is a very nice addition.
-
Thanx gents....;)

I really like those wagons. :) What did you base the design on?
-
very nice wagons indeed
-
Thats a beautiful wagon, great work!
-
Thanx gents...;)
What did you base the design on?
I wanted to do something like the drangon attack on the lannister convoi....;)
But could just come up with a rudimentary strong cart...a box on wheels...:D
Cheers,
Don
-
Nice work on that wagon! Like the Renedra bases for the wheels. :)
