Or, come on foot...
(Crossposted from the Old West board, as confusion reigns as to where this subject belongs... :))
More new sculpts from the very talented Matthew Bickley. (His father says he gets his talent from his mother, but I think he is fooling us ;)).
This time we have a band of Mexican/Tejano Vaqueros suitable for roughly 1820 - 1860 in either Texas, California or Mexico to fight Texans, Mexican federalistas, Commanches, Apaches or assist or hinder Zorro.

There are three more Vaqueros, mounted and dismounted photos in my gallery.
These will go off to the casters next week, then the horses need finishing and they are ready for sale.
Up next, the Dastardly governor, his honourable colonel, the Governors beautiful daughter and some American interlopers...

They will be available very soon. It takes time to get these projects off the groud. Now they have to go off to the casters for the master moulds to be made. Then the horses need to be finished. Not long to go I promise.
And just to piss you off some more here are the final three Vaqueros ;)

WOW!
Great work! ;D

Nick,
I see your plan now. Posting this thread on two boards is intended to cause so much confusion to senile old duffers like me, that we order twice as many figures by mistake >:(
A cunning plan, indeed!
Are you sure you've never worked for the .. ahem ...."Evil Empire" [no names, no pack drill]? lol

They are all part of Malamute [the Prince Of Darkness]'s attempt at world domination.
When available for retail, he will force the world to buy them from his own soon-to-be-revealed trading company ["666 Incorporated"?].
They are, of course, ensorcelled items and anyone possessing them will have sold his soul, therefore ensuring Malamute's path to greatness. Or so I'm lead to believe, anyway.
I'm sure Malamute will let us all know when they are ready for production ;)

Ok, so today the figures are off to the mould maker to have the production moulds make. Then the horses need finishing, so expect to see them for sale on about six to eight weeks.

Hah! I will intercept them with my loyal minions! Go forward, creatures of Shadow, and stop the man who looks suspiciously like Peter Cushing!!!
;)
Seriously though, well done, Master Malamute. I am really looking forward to seeing this range and picking up some. These are 28mm if I remember, correct?

See, he's got you snared too lol

They look great! Some of them could almost pass as gauchos if you wanted to take it further south... are there going to be more sculpts?

Lots more in the works, but not sure if there will be more Vaqueros yet, lots of other characters to do first. :)

Gluteus old fruit, you'll be too busy recreating skirmishes between Mexicans, Texians, Apaches and Commanches to consider anything else and of course bowing down before your new lord and master... ;) lol
Ps The mould makers have promised me the first casts next week to check over before production. How exciting :D

No, I also like yours better. This one needs some serious putty-work on the cape....

True and as you have previously said you have held the greens in your hands,
next time it will be the lead version :D

Overall, it's quite a nice figure, but you try and carve a 'Z' with that sword! You might do it if you grasped the blade near the tip, with heavy gloves, and dragged it over your victim, whilst ignoring his screams, but, using it as a duelling weapon, I don't think so. Might work if he was heavy cavalry...
-
I'm sure I'm just being stupid... but have you posted a picture of your Zorro figure on this forum?
If so, I cant find it. Can someone point me in the right direction, or repost it here? Please?

It is rather large - but then again I would struggle to name any 28mm figures I have seen holding swords where they are actually the correct thickness. As for axes - even Arnie at his peak wouldn't have been able to lift, let alone swing them. Cast spears are usually more suitable for caber-tossing than fighting with >:(
The obvious reason is that they are a compromise between accuracy and durability. It is possible to sculpt and cast them the correct size, of course, but they would be so thin and fragile as to break very quickly - especially when handled by an oaf like me :(
The obvious solution is to buy the figure and if you don't like the sword remove it and replace with a piece of sharpened wire etc.
Don't let the size of his weapon put you off what is otherwise a splendid figure :)
-
It's not so much the size of the sword that's off-putting, that's to be expected due to moulding limitations, but the fact that they didn't even attempt to model the style of weapon we're used to seeing for El Zorro. It's a hack and slash blade, not an elegant gentleman's dueling weapon. It would have been more acceptable to see something like those of Brigade Games' Swashbucklers.

Fair point!
Easily remedied though :)

The "Malamute version" have way more character in it?s sculpt too. Some might say that the Malamute figures are "caricatured" but they just cries to be painted.

I have just received the master lead figures, so mould making will commence very soon. Not long now. :)
