Title: When did Games Workshop start only designing with CAD - a Necromunda question!
Post by: dulydude on August 23, 2017, 04:17:55 AM
This is a really random question, but it's been nagging at me for ages and I kind of want an answer.

Considering the huge scale creep that will occur with the new version of Necromunda, I wanted to try and put together a scale comparison of 40K human minis, but since they've moved to more CAD sculpting compared from a more traditional approach it makes putting that scale together a little bit annoying for me! And yes, I'm making a (potentially dangerous) assumption in that since they have moved to CAD that the scale will now become consistent.

So onto my question, for 40K, what minis have been designed using CAD?

Most GW output, including FW, has been digitally sculpted for ages. The plastic ogryns were one of the last traditionally sculpted plastic kits by Michael Anderson. A good few of the studio sculptors, including the Perry's, left because of the move to 100% digital sculpting.

The Dark Vengeance box from 2012 was all digital sculpts, and I suspect most other kits since then have been.

This seems to be more of a "generic GW issue", so it should be discussed in the General GW Discussion thread.
