Title: Sharp Practice for the Wars of German Unification?
Post by: Antonio J Carrasco on August 24, 2017, 07:06:53 AM
I was doing some cleaning yesterday -taking advantage that I am on vacation!- and found a few Prussians for 1864-1866 wars that I bought long ago, when Helion released its range, before they sold it to North Star. Quite naturally I started to think what use I could give to the minis. I don't want to start any big project, though, and the wars of German Unification are better played with 10mm if you want big battles anyway! So I was thinking to use some skirmish ruleset and logically Sharp Practice came to mind. However, I am not sure how well it would manage to model that period.

I know that it is intended for gaming wars up to 1865, so in theory, the Schleswig-Holstein War and the Austro-Prussian War would be doable with Sharp Practice. My problem is not as much about fixed dates as about tactics. How well can it represent the changing tactics being developed by the Prussians in that period? How to represent schnellfeuer for example? Or the fact that the Dreyse had a higher rate of fire that rifled muskets?

Thanks!

Okay, well, I wrote Sharp Practice and I am also very interested in the period 1864 to 1871 and German unification.  As stands, the rules are NOT suitable for the period.  I need to write a supplement to bring the rules forwards to properly cover the single shot breechloader as the main infantry weapon.

I hope to do that at some point, but it's not top of my list as stands.

Hope that helps

Rich

Hi Rich

Yes, of course it does. And I will wait for that supplement! In the meanwhile, there are a few Prussians that need to be painted, so no rush!
