Quick question does anyone have a modern Canadian platoon organization?
-
I am guessing 3 sections, each of 2 4-man fireteams. Each fireteam = 1 leader, 1 rifleman with assault rifles; 1 minime saw guy; 1 guy with GL / AR.
But here's an idea for Alex. If he can webdesign a little, pages with colour photos as a painting guide and a page of TO&E would really spice up the website.

In addition to the three 8 man sections you've got the HQ with Carl G and a C6 GPMG team plus the plt cmdr, plt NCO (a Warrant Officer, equal to a Staff Sgt I think) and I would think a signalled too.

huevans - There are some articles in the works :)
James is about right, depending on what role the infantry platoon is in. Unless things have changed since circa 2010-11, a full rifle section in a mechanized platoon is 7 dismounts, a crew commander, gunner, and driver staying with the vehicle. There will always be 2 LMG, 2 M203s, and the rest with C7/C8. A light infantry section in my experience is 8 pers. HQ could just be a LT/CPT, Signaller, and Platoon Warrant officer, but there may be GPMGs/Carl G/Mortar as the situation dictates. On paper, the mech TO&E is:
HQ Section:
- Pl Comd
- Pl 2IC
- LAV Sgt (or HQ Sect Comd if you will)
- Wpns Det Comd (or HQ Sect 2IC if you will)
- Driver
- Gunner
- Signaller
- 2 x Wpns Crew (for whatever you want to deploy)
- Possible Medic
Rifle Sections x 3
- 10 troops as previously detailed
-
That explains my wondering how everyone fit in the LAVs!
My sections have been operating with one extra dismount too.
