Title: The Battlefields and other sites
Post by: FifteensAway on September 15, 2017, 05:39:36 AM
Too soon for photos but soon, I hope, I will post many photos on my blog of my vacation just returned from today: Rosebud, Little Bighorn, Wagon Box, Fetterman.  Forts Phil Kearney, Laramie, Bridger.  Sites related to the Nez Perce.

Lots of photos of museum displayed costumes for soldiers, civilians, and the natives.

So, what do you want to see first?  No way I can get it all done in one go, many hundreds of photos to sort through. Many.

Got to meet and speak with the granddaughter of the last war chief of the Crow nation - he died last year at 102.  (At least according to his granddaughter.)

Hi,
It will be very kind of you and it will be very interesting!
I think Little Bighorn first, will concentrate most attention.
Cheers!

The museum stuff, uniforms, settlers and Native Americans etc. The battlefield photos later (as you can generally find plenty of them on the web), but still want to see everything! ;D

Gentlemen,

I beg your patience.  There are 1,468 photographs and 64 videos from the vacation on my mini-iPad to sort through.  First task is to port them all over to my laptop and then sort them into related groups: shields, headdresses, attire, horse attire (of more in a moment), battle sites, cool landscapes for modeling references, structures for same.  Sure, many bracketing photos in the lot but still over 1,000 to sort through.

Now, as to horse furniture, one thing that I was surprised by was the number of decorative pieces for covering horses heads, some of which was closely allied with war garb so I'm assuming that was what it was for.  Never seen this mentioned and certainly never seen it modeled for the plains wars.  Anyone else encountered this?  All rather medieval and Mongolian in perception - until I saw the displays.

Oh, not all the photographs are related to the hobby, some are just 'purty'.   :)

Extremely interesting! It's really worth to take your time and sort all these pics, as they cover a multitude of subjects, I'm sure you're going to offer rare documentation to the community, we thank you in advance!
