Hello,
About to start building a 6mm Minoan/Mycenaean army for L'Art de La Guerre. Here are my thoughts and a start on my camp element.

Looks awesome! Please continue and show us more.

Great start. I'll follow this thread with interest.
-
Nice conversions. I mean you even bobbed-up a 6mm miniature!

No point having a Minoan lady without boobing her up! And I say that in the most respectful way. If you're going to do it, you have to do it properly. 😉

Nice. :-* :-*
Following with interest.

It's not the size, it's how you use it... ;)

A small update on the project, although progress is pretty slow. http://irregularwars.blogspot.co.uk/2017/09/slowly-minoan-camp-comes-together.html (http://irregularwars.blogspot.co.uk/2017/09/slowly-minoan-camp-comes-together.html)

Those are some beautiful and vibrant blues.
-
Yup that is lovely colour choices & painting, very evocative.
And in 6mm, you can show it off with the intro "its a small army but minoan".
Thank you, thank you Im here all week!
-
Very interesting vessel conversion, nice tent!
Really bright colors, neat painting! Well done!
-
Those are very, very nice, Nic. Not only are the conversions superb, but those colours are just beautiful...very pleasing to the eyes.
BTW, thank you so much for your recommendation in Byrtnoth's post. I took the plunge and ordered a Pendraken LR army pack and I am extremely excited. I've been able to crank out a unit/stand a day for Dux Bellorum/Comitatus and now have a nice little Italian field army. The painting is not as tedious as 6mm (maybe it's tedious because I have a 2 x 3 foot board filled with tongue depressors holding 6 strips each of Dacians and I think, ugh, how am I ever going to paint these hundreds of shields? ...so they sit)
But the 10's go fast... and a great amount of detail for the size. I really love the scale now that I've painted a few!
Maybe this post will inspire me to finally get those Dacians done, can't wait to see more of your Minoans as these are really beautiful.

looks great. I have just returned from a vacation on Crete - mostly filled with visiting archeological sites and museums - and I love this interpretation of Minoan era.
-
Having visited Akrotiri Thera and the Athens National Museum several times, I have to say that you have caught the feeling of the period perfectly! Congrats!
Eager to see more of you!
-
LOL, thanks for all the praise guys. No pressure for me to keep it up then!?
But I need some help now. The camp will be 80x60mm. I'm not sure whether to do a truncated beach scene, with the tent FAR too close to the water, or a fully dry scene, allowing for more freedom of placing the different elements of the camp, but perhaps raising eyebrowsa as to why the ship is there...

I propose a truncated beach scene, with minimum (if not at all) water. As the vessel is light, it could be fully drawn out on the beach... So, you might make just a few mm look like the edge of the water. The rest will be a sandy beach of course. You exploit the longitude of the base, so as the tent(s) to be the further possible from the water.
By the way, I found something interesting for you, Greek Age of Bronze -Ships

Here we go gents (and sundry ladies - I know you are out there!). More photos and details of what I did can be found on the blog. http://irregularwars.blogspot.co.uk/2017/09/adg-setting-up-minoan-camp.html (http://irregularwars.blogspot.co.uk/2017/09/adg-setting-up-minoan-camp.html)

Well done. :-* :-*
Lovelly piece of terrain.
-
Yeah, very nicely done.

I have finally finished my first two second divisions of 6mm Minoans for l'Art de la Guerre. Now it s just the heavy division to go!

Lovely colour schemes, but where are the topless lassies vaulting over bulls?
-
I did convert a lady wearing an open front Minoan dress for my camp. More than that is asking to much for my limited talents! 😉
-
These look great. Love the conversions on your boats.
-
Wonderful indeed :-*
-
Gorgeous. They'd be impressive at 15mm. The fact they're around 3 times samller than that is admirable.
-
Thanks gents. Progress is slow, but updates are forthcoming... or will be... eventually...
-
Slowly slowly catchy monkey... http://irregularwars.blogspot.co.uk/2018/02/minoan-re-inforcements.html (http://irregularwars.blogspot.co.uk/2018/02/minoan-re-inforcements.html)

Wonderful :-*

I reckon that's the death certificate for an Ancients version of Irregular Wars then? :'(
Very nice armies, though. And one of my favourite topics, if all in the 'wrong' scale. ;) Honestly admire your clean paintjobs on those tiny buggers.

We have had various incarnations of ancient Irregular Wars armies - it works best in non-professional periods like Classical Greece. However, I really do enjoy ADG. And I get more games of ADG. :)
Thanks for the compliment too! :D
Nothing wrong with this scale. Depending on what I'm painint at the time, I swing between 6mm and 10mm as the best of scales. Eitherway, I like 'em small!

They are done! I'm delighted to be able to show off my completed Minoan army for L'Art de la Guerre (198 points), started back in September last year. For me, that is a pretty quick turn around ...

Nicely done - the army reflects the care you've taken. So, what's next?
-
Lovely :)
I particularly like the camp.
-
Well done. :-* :-*
Really nice army.
-
So, what's next?
Cheers all. Other than getting my Minoans on the table, I'm taking a fantasy hiatus now with some 10mm halflings - and I have a campaign expansion for Palaeo Diet coming out soon.
-
Great project, the subject is charming and you paintjob/basing is rich of colour and character. May i ask wich enemy your minoan army will fight?
-

Initially, New Kingdom 'Gyptians. Not for any deeply evidenced historical reason, but because that is the only other Bronze Age army being built in my gaming circle. :D
-
It's OK; Odysseus claims to have raided Egypt.
-
It's ok, minoans could be One of the Sea people that raided ancient egypt in the bronze age
