with the new box from warlord coming soon (despite rumors of them being HUGE in size) I was wondering was blue the only colour for the coats?
I'd like to paint some up but so much blue is BOOOOORING.
so what other colours can I get away with with these strapping huge germanic giants?
were the coats anything they could grab? so blues, greens, greys, brows etc etc.
were the very specific and typically german in their attention to details?
and what else could they be used for? I've heard russian militia.
but with a few head swaps could they fit any poorly equipped unit? as I suppose coats are quite generic in design

If you don't like blue then I wouldn't pick Prussia as your army if I were you.
I have no idea how well they would serve as Russian militia, but it can't be more crazy than the idea posited the other day that they could be used as African tribesmen. So you could at least be happy in the knowledge that you aren't the weirdest kid in the class if you used them as such.

I just wanna paint a box. May be skirmish game. I don't mind blue I just want variation. Maybe 1/3 of the unit

Litewkas (the quite distinct Polish coats) and caps were the only uniform of Prussian Landwehr. Tones may have varied, but if they're Prussian, they're all blue.
That said, the figures could also represent Russian Opolchenie. Maybe with more beards and the odd high hat thrown in.

I was painting Calpe Landwehr a few years back and will be painting more next year and from my research I think you can get away with:
Mid-to-darkish blue, dark blue, blue so dark it's almost black.
So, plenty of variation there :D

So basically.......blue

You asked the question.
Paint them whatever colour you want, they'll be your toys assuming you buy the box when its released. :)

I converted Calpe Landwehr to 1848 Italian tropps. Lots of double breasted coats there ;)

Some Landwehr cavalry wore grey litewkas. I also found one picture that shows a grey one for infantry.
I guess you can mix different blues and greys in one unit even if not 100% historically accurate.

A friend converted Warlord Prussian landwehr to serve as Russian opolchenie:

Your call whether grey is any more fun to paint than blue...
