Which are your all-time favorite individual minis?

I was thinking about this (during a meeting) and came up with this list to start with.  Strangely, I am not into cowboys, pirates, or samurai, but these are some fantastic individual character minis that somehow speak to me artistically.

• Black Scorpion Undead Sailor 2 swords, I love this mini, you can almost hear an unearthly howl coming from him:

• Black Scorpion Jack a Roe Jones:

• ‎Black Scorpion Two Sword Sailor
(https://i.pinimg.com/236x/8c/e3/94/8ce3942c4c94c2ad1b14aa981ab5c015--scorpion-jim-orourke.jpg)

• ‎Black Scorpion Admiral Dylan Lloyd

• ‎Black Scorpion women pirate characters:

• Black Scorpion Billy the Kid - this little punk has so much attitude that I want to slap him myself:

• ‎Kensei two sword duelist samurai - very simple but somehow just right for a character:

• Kensei mounted samurai general - he looks like he is actually moving to me:

• ‎Black Scorpion Townsfolk 1 Cowboy duelist with the big hat and long jacket blowing in the wind, front row, camera right
(http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z6qmpIwiMo4/TzT4AXTV5AI/AAAAAAAAAHY/e7sL3P2j8v0/s1600/Cowboys1.jpg)

• ‎Flames of War Oberst Rettemeier in PzKfw III - not a crisp model but I like their selection of stuff on the vehicle and the position of the Oberst:

• ‎Gripping Beast mounted Alexander Nevsky:

• ‎Undead Samurai from Darkhammer (to me, one of the best minis ever created):

• ‎Obelisk Undead Baluchis (okay, not an individual but a set):

• Footsore's King Arthur mounted:

• ‎Special Limited Edition Viking - I finally found a link!  There were 500 of these guys released with the Age of Ravens book.

Does ANYONE know where I can find one?  :-)

How about the rest of you?

What are your favorite individual minis?

Links appreciated (I'll come back and add them after the next few meetings....)

Hrothyog is a very special min. GW did some great 'stood with attitude' guys in the 80's. Being an orc collector back then, I loved the orcy versions along a similar theme.

But this one is my all time fave, for sentimental reasons - Ral Partha's 'Giant on War Elephant' (it has been labelled under various titles along the same lines).

For happy memories I would go back to the pig faced orcs from minfigs (now back in production):

Followed by any of the Valley of the Four Winds and old old LOTR lines.

Now I'm leaning towards the GW Skaven in fantasy and Genestealer Cults in SciFi but there are so many many figures that I drool over :-*

To be honest about it, I think my fave model is the last I have seen that I like :D ;D :D

The old citadel balrog. I managed to get hold of one a while ago and it's still waiting to be finished. The one I got is pretty beat up, most of the detail in the face has been rubbed away.

And more recently...this little guy is just great.

One of my all-time favourite miniatures is the Don Quixote-esque "Freelancer Knight" from the Mordheim range --- sold in a blister on foot and mounted.  I mentioned this, and guess what my best friend gave me for my birthday!? (long out-of-print so this wasn't easy or cheap I'd imagine).

I'm almost afraid to open him and try to paint him.

I will say that on the whole I'm a sucker for older Jes Goodwin metal minis from the 40K range, and I'm a big Tre Manor whore (would be doubly so if his basic ranges weren't too small to be compatible with everything else I own).

I love that fish-knight model, too.  Wish I could find another one.  I have been collecting "old" Mordheim minis recently.

One more favorite that I should have mentioned is this cro-magnon from Lucid Eye (Warlord):

Lots of character.  He resembles an old wrestling coach of mine from high school....

Actually, now I think of it, this special edition Para by Paul Hicks must be my favourite historical model.

Hm... let's do this kinda-sorta-chronologically I guess?

The first minis I ever fell in love with was the GW Games Day Elf Hero and the same-era Shadow Warriors:

A classic Mage Knight dragon Sorcerer (I have since touched up the paint on this one a bit but can't find a good photo)

There was this Tre Manor redbox figure whose name escapes me at the moment

This Reaper mini

This CMON limited edition figure (sadly, a charity figure issued in memoriam of a very little girl)

Another CMON figure

Another vote for Hrothyogg. If I were doing these in order of favourites, he'd be near the top for sure.

Then I fell massively in love with Sergio at Tercio Creativo's sculpting, my favourite by far being William, the English pistol duellist (I have yet to assemble or paint my Tercio stuff, since Fantasy has taken a backseat to pulp the last couple years)

Andrew Rae has produced more than a few figures I love, but so far my favourite are probably his Corto Maltese

and his Red Queen

Another Tre Manor red box figure

Antediluvian's Shug McClure

And both of these strange buggers ;)

Oddly enough, I'm also a huge fan of Mark Copplestone's sculpting, but couldn't think of a single individual mini for this list. Maybe this Soviet Officer? Always loved his attitude and stance

Or this random gunman

Probably some other figures I'm forgetting among the ones I haven't painted, but that'll do, I think!

Luna from hasslefree was one of the miniatures that got me back into painting during uni. I saw the mini and loved it, it's such a delicate, characterful sculpt.

I bought one ,was afraid to start on it and then lost it during my move from uni halls to my house, so i need to buy a new one.

So many to choose from...

Demonworld 15mm - perfect sculpts and a joy to paint.

Me too.  He's one of my favorites.  I could not think of a single mini, though.

I find that he does fantastic sets that look good together.  I think his flavor of genius is making a theme as opposed to an individual sculpt, if that makes sense.

One thing I love beyond just how Mark's figures look is that his sculpts are probably the easiest sculpts to paint in the industry.

That's my 2nd favorite aspect of his minis.

The 1st is the amount of character and the theme he packs in there.

I would have to go with something from Mark Copplestone, too. Anything from either half of his Darkest Africa range, I guess. I could spend hours trying to find the one I like best but instead just picked one semi-randomly...

Sorry, a link to the Mirliton page but this one is everything an orc stands for ( to me ). Big, brutish and dim-witted:

( big fan of Nick Lund over here )  :).

This chap and the mounted version are downstairs, but this is easier than photographing them ;D

Dwarf hero from a long time ago. One of the first dwarfs I painted and still one of my favourites

It would probably have to be one of the old Perry orcs/goblins for me - one of the solid-based night goblins or armoured orcs, or the first range of slottabased orcs. Aly Morrison's hobgoblins and half-orcs are up there too, as are the Perrys' LotR baddies. My favourite of those at the moment is this one:

I've also grown increasingly partial to the Perry hobgoblins. My favourite of those is currently this fellow:

It's hard for me to pick a favorite mini on its own merits, as there's too many good ones to choose from, and that's even with me being as picky as I am.

The ones that stand out in memory are the "landmark" ones in my personal history, rather than necessarily the "best". I got into gaming minis somewhere in my pre-teens, but then fell away from it after just a few years. Then about a decade ago some tangential internet hobby stuff lead to me rediscovering them.

The two the stand out in my memory from when I was a kid (note: pics are not mine):

As a wee trekkie in the late 80s, I loved this particular FASA design because of how perfectly it translated the old Romulan warbird to the movie-era aesthetic. It was IMO the perfect "unseen" counterpart to the refit Enterprise and the K'Tinga. I still feel this way, even though I haven't been a real trekkie anymore for a long time now. I hunted down one of these some years ago, but haven't painted it yet, as I keep redesigning the paint scheme in my head.

A CG version is on my "to do" list as well. I've seen a few CG models of it that other people have done, and the thing that always annoys the piss out of me is how people often omit those tight concentric lines on the primary hull. This is half-understandable, as FASA's own ortho illustrations omit them as well (and CG modelers are likely referencing those without ever even looking at the mini), but IMO that is an essential part of the "look" of the ship, and trying to do a Gallant Wing without that is like trying to do Cajun food without bell pepper.

(http://ironwindmetals.com/store/images/fantasy/df066.jpg?osCsid=p8lu5hlrmpf0ao8tve4e46c1u0) (http://ironwindmetals.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=7982&osCsid=gmk8av8sf45nlbmqp4hfod1680)

One of the THE first minis I painted as a kid. Did it it in bright grasshopper-y greens with yellow belly scales and purple eyes (Poly-S paints, remember those?). Sadly long gone (though surprisingly, I still have some of those Poly-S pots, that even more surprisingly are still good). I keep meaning to buy one from Iron Wind (amazing that this is still in production). Still my my favorite "Umber Hulk" sculpt, due to the proportions and shovel-claws. IMO it sells the sense of being an actual big heavy animal (like a rhinoceros or a bear), as a opposed to the more common twiggy sculpts that handwave that stuff instead.

(http://www.hfminis.co.uk/img_cms/product_images/h035%20unlim.jpg) (http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=barbarian-libby-%26-sabre%252dtoothed-tigress-%282%29~hfh035&category=fantasy-%26%0D%0Asteampunk~fantasy-humans)

TOTALLY cheesy, but it's the mini that kicked off my rediscovery of the hobby like ten years ago. I had no idea how things had progressed while I was "away". Being randomly linked to the Hasslefree minis site one day and seeing how much better the sculpting was than what I remembered from back in the late 80s and early 90s threw the doors open for me. I was a 1/20-1/6 figure guy at the time, and had long ago dismissed the wee stuff as being too crude and unerdetailed for my taste, Seeing how that had changed didn't just bring me back, it completely flipped my interests. Nowadays I just do gaming minis, no longer big scale figures, because a modern well-sculpted gaming scale mini can have all the visual appeal of a big figure for a small fraction of the price, and a tiny fraction of the display space (1/8-1/6 figures add up FAST, shelf-space wise).
