Title: Book on the Battle of Frankenhausen 1525 (Commercial)
Post by: pete17 on October 11, 2017, 09:43:44 PM
Hi , the long awaited (by me anyway) book on the Battle of Frankenhausen has now completed it's first print run and available for sale.
the author Doug Miller wrote the first Osprey Landsknecht book back in the 70's and the more recent Osprey devoted to the German Peasant's War.

This little beauty is a step up from Doug's previous offerings and has 135  pages, 85 illustrations - mostly contemporary, 3 colour plates plus photos of models and dioramas including one painted by yours truly and has a foreword by Gerry Embleton.

Here's Doug's blurb on the battle: Over 2 days in May 1525 some 8000 rebels faced the combined armies of Philip of Hesse, Duke Henry of Brunswick and Duke George of Saxony at the salt town of Frankenhausen in Central Germany. Many of those present amongst the insurgents had been drawn by the teachings of the radical cleric Thomas Müntzer who openly challenged the princes to embrace his communitarian theology. In this richly illustrated book, Doug Miller seeks to piece together the events leading up to the massacre of some 7000 rebels and place it in its wider historical context. Frankenhausen remains something of an enigma and the author makes the case for battlefield archaeology to shed light on some of the unanswered questions concerning  what many consider to be the most decisive ‘battle’ of the German Peasants War.

price is £20 plus postage and they can be purchased from Caliver books of from Doug direct at Blagden Publications, cheers Pete

Very nice (in the year of Luther)

The "Bauernkrieg" was really a revollution in south Germany, North Switzerland , Alsace and Tirol. Many different Groups of farmers wanted to get rights ( zwölf (12) Artikel). here are some of that groups.

Bundschuh,Stühlinger Haufen,Bodensee Haufen, Baltinger Haufen, Algäuer Haufen, Schwarzer Haufen.......Breigauer Haufen (18 000 man)

Officers and leaders :

Jakop Wehe, Jäcklein Rohrbach, Florian Geyer, Götz von Berlichingen, Eitelmas Ziegelmüller, Martin Feuerbacher, Hans Müller, Hans Römer.

Some of them where bevor in the italian war as Landsknechts.

Altough interesting is the "Pfälzischer Ritteraufstand 1522-1523" (Ritterkrieg) poor Knights wanted the same. "Franz von Sickingen". "Fränkischer Krieg"(Absberg Fehde) some years later.
