Title: Is Thunderbolt Mountain closing?
Post by: Ethelred the Almost Ready on October 30, 2017, 07:33:09 AM
I came across this on the Thunderbolt Mountain home page.
"NOTICE: We will be closing the online store and not accepting any new orders after Dec 25th of this year".

Here's hoping the range simply will be available elsewhere from then on. The webstore isn't exactly the most pretty of sites, but the figures sure are. If no further info emerges, a big purchase may be on its way, just to be sure...

It would be a real pity, if production of these wonderfull miniatures would stop.
I have a small force of their Wood Elves, and they are above anything else I have in fine (and to scale!) detail.

Maybe I should buy a small Goblin army also, but I'm a bit short of hobby funds with Crisis in Antwerp coming up next saturday.

I hope it's not a health issues thing. Haven't heard anything from Tom in a while across the forums.

Their King Arthur figures are a thing of beauty.

I have found some new Tom Meier sculpts on the Dark Sword Miniatures site, so I hope this means he is well and still working.

It seems the closure is confirmed, if this release is true. All good things come to an end.

Well, it doesn't seem to have any information beyond the notice on their website. I've sent an email to Thunderbolt Mountain for any further information earlier this week; will let you know if I hear back from them.

I blogged it as well with a few more links and pics etc in case anyone is interested. Found a few nice pics of the Fox WW2 sculpts as well.

The Dozing Dragon - thanks for putting that blog post together. I loved reading that and watching the video. What did Tom sculpt in 15mm for Khurasan Miniatures?

Thanks T D Dragon!
I have several of the old Ral Partha Orcs/Hobgolbins (or whatever they are called now) from late 70ties, early 80ties. I still like them a lot!

And I must place a last order at Thunderbolt Mtn, as soon as the next paycheck arrives. I'm just back from Crisis in Antwerp, and that costed me a an arm and a leg...

I need to dig up some cash and order those goblins before they are gone. Tough times!

Damn! I just have discovered that site this morning and I love it so much. The goblins, the elves, King Arthur and his knights.

Problem is, it's in the states. And that means customs will be getting my parcel.

Does anyone know of a UK/EU-based trader having Thunderbolt in stock?

Cheers Wim. I saw a few Facebooks posts about Crisis and I think I'll be making the trek next year.....

Thanks to the OP for posting this and also to The Dozing Dragon for a very informative blog post. Fascinating the range of things some people turn their hands to!

I still have the old RP elves I bought in the early 80s - such a wondrous contrast with almost everything else around then. The elves on the Thunderbolt site are quite remarkable - may have to see if I can somehow get some onto a Christmas list....

I got the impression although Thunderbolt Mountain was started by Tom Meier, he is so busy as a freelance sculptor, TM is run by others.

I have bought bits off them over the years. The elves and goblins figures are amazing. I just found it frustrating some of his ranges never went anywhere. For example his Byzantines. Three different types of spear men, but that’s it. No command or anything else and the figures aren’t compatible with other manufacturers.

https://www.thunderboltmountain.com/search?q=Byzantine+&search-button.x=23&search-button.y=20

When sculpting for TM his interests seem to flit about like a butterfly. So unlike most war-gamers who remain so resolutely focused on one period/project seeing it to its completion before moving on to the next! lol

I love the goblins they do, just wish getting them to the uk wasn't so damned expensive
