Interesting item on the Today programme this morning about the Ancient Greek aulos which may have been taken into battle.

It sounds a lot like the opening part of the following Thracian song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwEOCR3-REQ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwEOCR3-REQ) that is played with gaida(greek bagpipe). I am assuming that the sound of Aulos that Callum Armstrong plays is very close to the original based on the similarities of the two sounds . I am always impressed on the ecstatic Dionysean feeling that some traditional greek folk songs have, that makes me think about the continuity  of greek music.
