Hi Gang;
I have tried Kings of War and I am not overly excited about the game. With the death of Warhammer Fantasy is there any other Fantasy Mass Battles game on the market?
thanks

Hordes of the Things
Mighty Armies
Rally round the King
Pride of Lions
Armies of Arcana
Fantasy Warriors
Just to name a few that are out there.

Also Mayhem - very excellent.

I'd second the recommendations of Hordes of the Things and Mayhem in particular, and also add Sword and Spear Fantasy to the list.

The free basic version of Impetus Fantasy is still around and the commercial release version is being written and tested currently.
Uses the mechanics of Impetus/Basic Impetus so is a great mass battle game. The magic in the basic version is a bit weak (but more extensive variants have been done).
Works by allocating unit stats from historical archetypes; so you can decide if your Fantasy "Knights" are like Sarmatian Cataphracts, Crusader Holy Orders, Renaissance Gendarmes or something else.
Units are single bases so reward diorama style basing.

There is a fantasy version of Hail Caesar - name escapes me though

May I ask why you don't like kings?

I'd recommend Sword and Spear Fantasy.

We continue cheerfully to play WHFB, however a few of us have tried The 9th Age and were quite happy with it.
My next try will be the Oathmark system from Northstar I think.
