Title: New Wave Necromunda - Cawdor Gang 30/04/20
Post by: Exiledadmiral on December 22, 2017, 11:08:08 PM
Heyup all, I'm going to use this thread for my Necromunda miniatures as and when I paint them. I'm getting Underhive for Christmas so should have some updates on the new year.
In the meantime I got the Gor Half-Horn miniature at the Warhammer World open day the other month and he's been sat on my painting desk looking intimidating ever since. I finally got round to putting some paint on him and I'm pleasantly surprised with the results! I tried a bit of blending on the armour plates, which I definitely could have gone brighter with on reflection, and did some battle damage that i was pretty pleased with.

A couple more angles in the album https://imgur.com/a/uBRlC

I'm probably going to focus on the Escher when I get the boxed set. Not entirely sure whether to bother with the Goliaths or just sell them cheap and get the Orlocks when they come out, time will tell!

Is there a beastman gang in Munda now?!

It looks well painted!

It's a hired gun mercenary character addable to any gang.

I wasn't sure about the albino paint job but it looks really good.

Very cool! The white pelt and bashed up gear really works a treat

Nice job on a lovely sculpt.  Still, I feel a need to rant...bloody beastmen in the canonical 40K setting but the Squats are still extinct?  If there's a Chaos god of raw hatred for revisionist game companies, I'm all in for that cult.

Thanks for the comments! White fur is the first thing I pictured when i thought goats, pleased with how it turned out.

Haha it does seem unfair on the little guys. A hired gun squat would be incredible, but I'm guessing there's zero chance of that.
My lovely wife has allowed me to open necromunda today because we're with family from tomorrow until the 27th and I've got some Escher assembled. Cool sculpts! Pain in the arse deciding on weapon loadouts though, I think I'm going to go by the rule of cool for ease.

Squats are in the new Necromunda book, at least in passing, with plenty of room for their addition. Wouldn't be surprised to see a squat ammo tech added.

Awesome painting, and I really do like the sculpt.

Yet, my pledge of Mythic Battles just arrived...so how can I hide buying another big box, place intensive board gamish tabletop wargame from she-who-must-be-obeyed?

My rage is only partly abated.  Maybe when they give the Wood Elves back their Zoat allies I'll cool down completely.  :)

What's to stop you putting anything in the game you want anyway? If you want squats paint some up

I didn't really like the model when I saw it in unpainted but you've really sold me on it. Nice job.

That old line.  Let's see:  No new actual Squat minis in decades.  Secondary source ones are hit-or-miss in terms of matching the old aesthetics, plus I really don't like rewarding people for copying IPs from an active company even when that company isn't using it.  Most 40K players locally lean toward using 8th edition tournament format rules, where Squats are unsupported (and no, I don't want to play them as "counts as" models - that's always sucked). And outside of maybe Sisters of Battle, I can't think of a range of figs I'd like to see done in modern GW plastics than the Squats.

Well, maybe Fimir.

This whole rant ain't got squat to do with the original topic.

That’s a lovely looking paintjob there, really bright with great blending and a nice variety of colours.

I also love the slime oozing out of the pipe!

Very much looking forward to seeing the Escher figures.

Good job , my friend.
Nice choice of colours.
Would be a great leader for a converted plastic beastmen warband.

Thanks for the comments! I've got a few Eschers to share today, they're fiddly little models and not quite up to Gor's standard to my eye but I'm fairly pleased with them to start.

First photo shows the colours best I think, I had a go at different animal pelts, which I think worked ok. The other seven are mostly basecoated now that I've got the colour scheme down pat. Hopefully I'll get them done quicker to the same standard, especially since painting Gor Half-Horn has given me a real itch to paint some Warhammer Fantasy beastmen, so that's probably next on the list.

Heyup all, I've got some more Necromunda goodness to share. I'm not entirely sure Inquisitor Eisenhorn counts as Necromunda but I think he fits here better than elsewhere.

He was a bugger to paint tbh, the details on him weren't as crisp as they looked on the box art, I'm dead pleased with the end result though.

The next two are two of the Forgeworld hired guns set. I've started painting the third but again the tiny Escher accessories are frustrating me, I'll get her done eventually. So for the blokes:

I really enjoyed painting these two, I wanted to keep them bright and colourful but a little beaten up. I originally did the first one's mask/helmet the same colour as his gloves but i didn't like it in the end. I think the white draws the eye better and gives it a more high tech look. The second one looks slightly Caledonian by accident rather than design, I did the checks first and then the hair to add some contrast and boom, Scotsman!

Hope you like them, I'm definitely not shelling out £75 for the next set of hired guns but a few of them are tempting, especially the squat bounty hunter, the possibility of which I seem to recall being derided earlier in this thread  lol

Thanks very much for the comments! Glad you like the colour schemes. I've got some genestealers that I painted using washes a while ago that are extremely colourful, not sure I ever posted them, I shall have to finish them up and post them too.

Really liking the Necromunda models so far.
The Escher gang really are tedious to make AND to paint too so its a double whammy of frustration.
I prefer the Orlocks which Id highly recommend to ANYONE haha  lol

The mercs look bloody brilliant though. I was never sure of them myself like others here but seeing them painted here is actually a good push in the "maybe" buy direction too haha.

Thanks matthais-mouse! You're probably right about the Orlocks, they look a bit more fun to paint than the Eschers!

Got a small update today, I bought Kal Jerico and Scabbs when they were made to order and finally got round to painting them. They came out quite nice I think and I've taken the opportunity to pose them on some urban ruins I painted recently.

I overdid the weathering pigment on the bases, but the underhive is a dusty grimey place, so meh. Enjoy!

Now this post is not strictly Necromunda, it's Kill Team: Rogue Trader, but I don't want to clog the forum up with mini threads and I reckon the Gellerpox Infected could be used in Necromunda as an insidious Chaos uprising or even plain muties. I loved the look of most of the models in the Rogue Trader boxed set but I really don't want to buy every boxed game that GW come out with because I know I'll never paint them all! As a compromise I bought the Gellerpox off ebay and got to work.

I really enjoyed painting these guys, it was a great opportunity to try different skin tones and techniques. Some look better than others and if I'm completely honest I don't quite consider Vulgrar Thrice Cursed, who is the three headed leader of the warband, finshed. His flames could be better and I've not finished his base now I look at it! My favourite is Mr Cleaver, followed by Mr My-Hand-Turned-Into-A-Talon, and then very closely by Mr Fishy Tentacle, who looks much more waxy and bloated in person.

Hello all, I'm back with some more hired guns! It's been a while and I've had a few of these sitting on my desk gathering dust while I've painted various other things, but I finally got round to them.

I'm trying to do different colour schemes for each hired gun and some come out better than others. I've kind of arranged them in reverse order of favourites, with Eyros Slagmyst coming out on top.

Hope you like! I've got the squat fellow on my painting desk too, although they've released another squat now that I think looks even better. I'll try to get Grendl done soonish, plenty of time what with the lockdown.

Thanks Mathias! He's essentially shades of green, which was quite fun to do while trying not to make him monotone.

Thanks for all the kind comments! It seems bag faced sniper has won the popularity contest by a mile, although I still prefer Eyros myself  :D

Today is a larger update, a whole Cawdor gang. I bought these when I was going to start playing Necromunda at my local flgs, but didn't fancy starting out with my Eschers. I got a long way through them and then abandoned them to paint a Warcry warband and they've been sat on my desk almost finished since some time last year. I've finally finished them, I must admit the quality is variable but finished is always better than sitting on my desk forever!

Molotov man is my favourite of the bunch, he was the model I used to test the scheme and probably had the most attention heaped on him. I also think he's got the most interesting pose of the whole gang. If I were painting another gang I think I'd plan ahead for a bit more spot colour, I think the regular gangers are a little monotone despite being bright pink!

Also opinions/tips appreciated on photography. I'm liking other people's threads with models arranged in suitable scenery, as I've tried to do above, but the lighting is all over the place and these are the best three photos of quite a few. Anyone have any advice?
