Probably the Big Red Button with the " Do Not Press" sign that attracts players so much.
or something else as someone is already doing an entry about joining this contest ;)

Check Damas' thread lol

-Captain! Everyone knows it is ill-advised to try to outrun an Imperial Star Destroyer.
-Yes, very risky but I know a few tricks and some special maneuvers. In any case, we have to try.
Yes, foolishly I am attempting to build a 28mm scale blockade runner. It is inspired by the CR90 Tantive IV seen in the opening scene of Star Wars. Okay, okay. To keep it reasonable it is approximately 1/3 of the size of a CR90 hence the CR30 designation; about 50 metres vs the 150m official size (well there is some dispute out there about that).
Here are my rough sketches to get the overall idea of design, size and internal layout. I always do that as I mentally need to know that the layout is plausible; in a galaxy far far away sort of way :D
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/31/2880_17_01_18_3_04_26_0.jpg)
And here I start making tubes. Lots and lots of tubes. Still making tubes.
Start of the nose/bridge section.
And the overall mid to forward structure as it is. The engine block will likely only have 8 engines vs the 11 on the Tantive IV. Some of my other compromises changes design decisions will be explained as I progress.

No detailed interior but may make the floor plan if have time.
Finally started. Phew. 8)
-
That's a very interesting start. I'll follow your progress with interest. I'd hesitate before tackling a project with so many curved surfaces, but you seem to be handling it without problem!
Your sketch reminds me of a Tim Eldred illustration in an old WEG sourcebook.
-
very nice start
-
Good stuff!
-
:o :o :o 8) 8) 8)
-
This is going to be AWESOME! :)
-
Super start to the build matey! Looks bang on for a small-mid freighter. 8)
Cheers
Matt
-
Woah! Great start! 8)
-
Nice start!
-
Looking forward to see this blockade runner!
-
Thanks all.
Still building basic shapes and of course this morning I found some tubes of the perfect diameter which would have been less work. Doh! :(
Here is the first of the engine pods which will need more internal bracing. No detailing yet and so not exciting.
And starting to build out the mid-section.
And of course a project this size requires proper supervision.
-
I liked your build, but now I like your supervisor better :D 8) 8)
-
Great stuff.
I absolutely love the design of the Blockade Runner, so I shall be avidly following your progress.
:-* :-*
I have a very similar supervisor that tends to poke his oar in at just the wrong moment too.
;)
-
Progress on the mid section. Still building the basic shape before detailing starts. Until I get the engine block done, not exactly sure what the landing gear height will be.
and the engine block. Yup just a heavily reinforced box as this is what the engines will hang off.
And in other news, Amazon just more than doubled the price of the chipboard I get. :o Arghh and other sounds of anguish. No solid gold vanity for the captain's quarters.
-
A cool design!
-
Quick update. First three engine pods of the engine block completed. The other 5 are at various stages of completion.
-
Love those engines!
They look great.
:-* :-*
-
I can already picture that painted - except it will probably look even better still :o 8) 8)
-
very nice indeed
-
That looks great! It’s amazing what you can do with just card! 8)
-
Looking amazing so far :o.
Somehow I expect your next project will be building a table large enough to hold the thing ;D
-
Thanks all. Meanwhile, on the engine production line...
Most of the detailing pieces, pre-cut and ready for assembly.
The production line with engines at various stages of completion; most are now finished.
And a closeup of a finished engine. A coat of ModPodge to come and some painting of the hard to access areas. I may still add a few more details later given time and how it looks once the engine block is assembled but the rest of the ship needs work also.
Not just working on engines. Forging ahead with the bridge section.

Just.... :o :o :o!
-
Cripes! I'll echo Andym :o :o :o :o
-
Awesomesauce! 8)
And LAF is like a cathedral; exclamations keep echoing everywhere!! :D
-
absolutely stunning
-
Please get this finished in time! It looks awesome!
-
I love the size of this behemoth! :o :o
-
Great stuff :)
cheers
James
-
i love the assembly stage, when all the cutting is done and things appear rapidly!
Keep up the good work!
-
The engines are looking awesome!
-
Gotta love this.
:-* :-*
-
This is coming along nicely! I really like the engines. Seeing multiple copies of an engine nacelle in a post I didn't start is a nice change! I'm also impressed by the fact that it's mostly made of card. I can't wait to see it finished.
-
Thanks again.
Pogress on lots of small sections so didn't take too many pics. The super structure is complete now so detailing, detailing, detailing.
Parts for the rear landing gear
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/31/2880_11_02_18_2_28_50_0.jpg)
Forward landing gear in progress as well as the cargo container cradles.
More and better pics soon.
-
Great stuff!
Did you ever get your ship from last year finished? I don’t remember seeing any pictures! :?

Shame on me! :'( :'( :'( No. Here it is beside my work bench, taunting me, every, single, bloody, day. Acting like it's been abandoned on Jakku.
Just need a couple of weeks to finish it off, that and the quad jumper in the bin also. All the parts are there, finished and waiting to be assembled except for the quad guns and antennae. Was waiting for some magnets and then got distracted. Plan is to rescue as many as possible of these unfinished projects this year.
More work on the forward landing gear and the bulking out of the cargo cradle.
Here the Overcat is lending a helping paw.
And cleaned up my desk a bit yesterday as it was getting impossible to work on it and could now take this shot:
And a better view of the engine pod. Ship comes apart in three pieces for storage and possibly to model as a wreck (still thinking about this).

Back to detailing

Love it :-*

I do hope so :)
-
That is a work of genius, sir.
Absolutely gorgeous so far!
:-* :-*
-
Stunning.
How much time does this take? How much free time have you got?
-
That’s brilliant! I was always dying to see the Sparrow(?) finished!
That would be a great shot for your final picture if you could manage it.....The Sparrow being chased by the blockade runner behind it. Use a big black sheet for a backdrop! Something like this scene from Empire Strikes Back...

Whoo! Loving this! :-*
-
Grand show - especially the cat of course :D ;) 8)
-
Fantastic landing gear :-*
-
Echoing the others: tip top work.
-
Love this build. :o :o
-
:o
That really looks great!
Shame on me! :'( :'( :'( No. Here it is beside my work bench, taunting me, every, single, bloody, day. Acting like it's been abandoned on Jakku.
That's why I put most of my unfinished projects in boxes lol
-
you BSC guys are all nuts, but this project is a special kind of nuts! ;D
-
An image upload problem is ongoing, but is being tackled; BUT due to this issue I decided to extend the deadline by a week, so you have a little more time.
-
oh yeah... gotta post these.
In three parts for easier (hopefully) storage.

Closer and crisper image.

-
Amazing! Every project needs more Overcat.
-
Fantastic :D
-
By Obi-wans bead! :o
I don't think I realised how big this thing is until now.
-
Superb work!
-
Oh WOW!!!! :o :o :o To quote Darth Vader....”impressive!.....most impressive!”
Is that you finished the “build” part of your project then? Do you have an airbrush to paint it or are you going to blast it with some spray cans?
-
Superb 8) 8) 8)
-
Thanks all.
@Andym
Yup. Pretty much done save a few spots I noticed when I Mod Podged the whole thing this morning that needs some greenstuff and one thing I missed (it's big).
By brush, by brush o_o ;D o_o ;D Too damp and cold for spraycans and don't have an airbrush (why I'm asking myself, why?)
-
I was looking at that and thinking "it's cardboard and paint, that won't end well", wonder how you seal it?
What sort of surface does the modge podge provide? I keep hearing it mentioned but haven't tried it (wondering about it for sealing mdf)
Painting that by brush :o Rather you than me lol
-
What a beasty! Well done!
-
OOOOoooohhhh! :o :-*
Soooo, are you going to mould and sell it? :D
-
Magnificent!
-
An incredible build!
Although it looks like the maintenance crew left some oversize pliers in the middle section in that fourth picture :)
-

Like a thin coat of varnish. It doesn't obscure fine details that I can tell with one coat, and dries transparent. Dries quickly in about 20 minutes. It is a sealer and glue so it's like painting tacky glue and seems to work well to most materials including regular mdf. Caution: I have not tried it on mdf buildings though; maybe someone has experience with. It's fairly new to me and still experimenting with it. It seals the cardboard so regular acrylic paint doesn't warp it, seals the edges too, binding them together and prevents flaying ( I also use superglue for this).
Well worth trying out.
Base coat painted. Now on to detail painting.
-
Thanks for that. I've had some in my Amazon wishlist for a while, so I'll pick up a bottle next time I'm buying stuff.
Sealing cardboard without warping makes it worth buying for that alone :D
-
This is out of scale in my awesometer :o
-
Only just found this thread, fantastic modelling
-
What a beauty! Serious skills in play here :-*
-
Ok…
1st; Wow!
2nd; Wow Again! It’s amazing what you’re able to build with pieces of cardboard and plastic!
3rd; What kind of glue are you using to glued pieces of cardboard together?
-
Thanks all.
@Calimero Aleene's Original Tacky Glue; I use it for all my projects and swear by it. Superior to PVA. And a bit of superglue, the runny type, to harden some of the cardboard edges and glue non-porous bits.
-
Pic received. :D 8)
-
The final product looks awesome, well done!!!
