Title: Starting a 15/18mm ACW Union army. [Update #8] 25/09/18
Post by: Jabba on January 11, 2018, 11:49:02 AM
So a new year starts and it's time to move into another period with my wargaming. It's going to be ACW and in my case a Union force. The scale will be 15/18mm to fit in with other club members' collections and the chosen rules will be Fire & Fury at brigade level.

A lead pile has been acquired, from various sources.

Plus some acquired already painted that I've re-based.

So off we go. More on the start of this enterprise on my blog at Jabba's Wargaming (https://jabbaswargaming.blogspot.co.uk/2018/01/1518mm-american-civil-war-starting-new.html)

Good luck.  I started with ACW in 15mm and Fire and Fury Brigade are great rules (I haven't played the revised version).  Looks like you're off to a good start.

Excellent start.  Those painted regiments look quite large.

They will represent  brigades in the games and can be split up into various size groups as required.

So with the rail road track sorted out I needed a couple of 15mm scale rail road related buildings as this is one area the club was lacking. Back to Peter Pig (http://www.peterpig.co.uk/21scenery.html) I went and ordered a station and water tower from their AWI, ACW and western range.
A few nights work later and they were ready for the table last friday.

Assembled and primed

Title: Starting a 15/18mm ACW Union army. [Update #3] 12/03/18 Command Stands
Post by: Jabba on March 12, 2018, 08:24:27 PM
So next up were some Corps and Division command stands. For these I decided, as I am doing Union, that I would include the Corps and Divisional flags. Also I would make these flags removable so as to be able to represent different formations with these bases. I have given more detail on my blog at Jabba's Wargaming (https://jabbaswargaming.blogspot.co.uk/2018/03/1518mm-american-civil-war-update-3.html?showComment=1520885626062#c6534772407119880577) and here are the results. Figures by AB and Blue Moon.

Finally got round to starting on the lead pile of infantry. First up some AB figures I acquired from @rumacara.

These provide enough figures to represent a brigade of between 1050 and 1400 men depending of game scale being used (Brigade F&F)

I have produced a blog post on how I am painting my ACW infantry which can be found at Jabba's Wargaming (https://jabbaswargaming.blogspot.co.uk/2018/04/painting-18mm-american-civil-war-union.html)

Been a bit slow progress recently , too many games played  lol , plus other stuff that needed doing. Anyway another unit completed.

Again AB Figures (more from you rumacara) except for the regimental standard bearer, Blue Moon.

Next up seven more bases of Blue Moon infantry and some terrain from TimeCast and Ironclad Miniatures.

Some of the previously mentioned terrain items have been completed, so I give you the TimeCast bridges and rivers..

I had several false starts with the river colour selection and also a few procedural errors whilst painting them, I go into more detail on my blog. Overall I am very happy with the bridges not so with the rivers but we live and learn.

Another item I quickly knocked up were some Heavy casualty markers for Fire & Fury. Not having any suitable miniatures I went with a basic yellow flag as used by both side to mark field hospitals.

As noted more in depth musings on these items on my blog at Jabba's Wargaming (https://jabbaswargaming.blogspot.com/2018/06/1518mm-american-civil-war-update-5.html)

Further update.

Another Infantry brigade completed, this time all Blue Moon Figures.

Also the hasty fieldworks from TimeCast.

As well as the Fences from Ironclad Miniatures.

This gives me a Union force that currently looks like this.

Great thread. I have done a lot of 15mm ACW in the past. Such a good period and scale. Really great to see this army and terrain developing so well.

After a bit of a delay, some other projects got in the way, another update. A further Brigade, slightly different paint colours this time, some casualty/disorder markers and my attempt at snake rail fencing.

Figures Blue Moon with I think one Old Glory 15s standard bearer. Need a more matte varnish.
