As Round 1 is up and running with a good voter turnout and lots of lovely constructive commentary, I must now remind any existing or new competitors wishing to submit a new entry for Round 2, you need to do so by 07.00 GMT on Sunday 26 April.
Send your teams for Round 2 to lpleague3@yahoo.co.uk
Please remember to include the team name or title of your entry, and your LAF user ID with your email.
You do not have to enter a new team every round. If you already have a team in Round 1 and you do not enter a replacement team for Round 2, then your Round 1 entry will continue into Round 2 and will be matched against a different opponent.
But don't forget that from Round 2 onwards, every new team entered attracts a 10 point 'new team' bonus (provided it has not been previously pictured on the web or elsewhere).
Just a couple of rule reminders:
1. All entries should include a shot of the group or team. You can add different angles or close-ups as you wish, but you need to include the group shot.
2. The composition of your shot is entirely your choice. You can use a neutral background or display the figures 'in situ' against scenery.
Looking forward to seeing some more fantastic entries for Round 2. There's no 'theme bonus' in Rounds 2, 3 and 4, so anything goes!
:)

Just finished mine, except for the group photo.

...except for the group photo.

Ah that old Maltese sense of humour ;)

:-[ I'm not laughing at this end - I have NO idea how to take a good photo of this next lot... they just won't keep still.

I would be laughing if my next picture also wasn't such a problem. I'm afraid it will be a "rush job" though

Oh man, the 26th is too late for me. I'll try for next time, looking forward to everyone's stuff for round 2.
Also, just had me birthday. April 20th, cheers all!
-
congrats on the 420 bday :D

Ahhh...! :)
The core of the second entry is ready. Next I will try to make a pleasing setting for the photography. Let's see, the photo must be a collage of all the miniatures, correct? ;)

Lumme! Time's a-movin'. I don't think I'm going to be able to keep up with the pace for long. I don't know how folks can paint quickly, I just don't seem to have it in me. I think I needed to start about six months ago. Oh well. Never mind, eh? :)

I think some of us did start six months ago. :)

You are right time's now flying along.
My output is sporadic I joined in LPL3 to reduce the lead pile a bit but still only achived 15 minis in a month which I spose is quite good seeing as I did 15 from Jan to March.
Finding/making the time is really hard.

Boh! That's not for real Lead paintes eh...that's for Rubber painters ;):P
I finished the first one and half of the second one yesterday. I nearly went insane due to what I was painting (won't say what) but with two evenings and one afternoon left I think I can manage them in the time frame.
Man, only the second week, but the pace is already killing :D. On the other hand, the idea to finish 50+ miniatures in 10 weeks is beyond fantastic

I can almost guarantee you that neither will I. It is very difficult for me to find time for 'The Hobby' right now, what with being fater-cum-tutor to fiver, son of hammers. Fencing, recital training, rethorics, Grand Tours etc., etc. ...
I think I will be able to keep up for at least five rounds if I put a few old things in play, and plan the few hours I have to myself carefully. Not painting more than the minimum requirement five helps, so does not picking a fairly straightforward subject matter. The problem is shooting something good looking. Most of my props are packed away.
-
I can already feel the pace as well and I even have some rounds finished in advance. I will try to take pictures this afternoon, which takes a fair amount of time in itself, maybe get some painting done too 8)
I find you really need preferably the weekend and a weeknight or two to finish an entry, and that is not something I have every week ;)
-

Relax. I for one am only voting on the painted figures, it being a Painting Competition. For me, the scenery is totally irrelevant - though nice to look at... ;)
-
Indeed...
The bottom line is the minis.
As far as keeping up the pace, well, that is what the league is all about and why I am totally freeking out at this time... o_o

Hehe. As it has been said many times before it is not any ol' painting competition. LPL has a few traits which makes props relevant. Speaking for myself I don't feel I need to present them with props. I want to. Ties shit together, ya know.

Totally agree, so do I.
The LPL is a pretty unique experience. It is an experience where even the mighty can fall to a well executed, innovative piece of work. It is hard to quantify or explain, but it works so well not just because of painting quality and quantity but because of the magic which flows from the imagination of the folks who inhibit this small corner of the world.
-
I certainly think there is room for both ways. Orctrader's signature presentation style really displays his (I assume he's a he) wonderfully painted figures very nicely, on the other hand I love to see the little dioramas that some folks concoct too. I don't see why they can't compete against each other.
Scenery, story-telling composition and backdrop doesn't always automatically beat blank background, by any means.

Not when I'm taking the photo it doesn't lol

Thank you :) Of course, being only a painter, I don't actually own any scenery or terrain :?
(I might actually buy some for one particular round I have in mind. Certainly I have no spare time to make any...)
-
I actually like it a lot that scenery has an influence on the votes.
Next to having to paint the miniatures, it gives me a good excuse to finish scenery that is already lying around for ages. The fact that I really love seeing well thought out pictures telling a story also helps a lot. Then again, good painting can still win, as has been shown often.
In the end, the only think I think that is important is seeing pretty pictures :P

This is certainly so.

Painted some more yesterday and now nr. 2 and 3 are also finished! Only two more to go. I'm going to make the deadline.
-
Round 2 & 3 painted, was going to shoot pics this afternoon except it rained... I like sunlight for my photos, it gives the best results...
-
Don't get much sun light at useful times up here is Scotland. It may be one of the reasons I am struggling more with getting good photos than I am with painting my entries. I am going to trying the light tent idea, tonight for my next entry.
-
Well, the second round is ready for their photoshoot (being a bunch of divas as it is...). I'm half way through painting the third entry, so I'm ahead of schedule. As I'm on holiday in week 9 & 10, so have to paint these entries ahead of time, that's really not a bad thing :)

Liquid Nitrogen?

Liquid Nitrogen?
intestin idea , you can even easily get a bonus gas or fog effect ;)
-
Just sent in my second entry, I made the picture yesterday and I'm really pleased with how it turned out. My only problem is that I don't know how to top this one ???
Hopefully I'll get some more painting done over the weekend for round 3, I'm really enjoying this 8)
-
Well allthough it's a rush, round 2 is done :)
The picture should be a bit sharper this time due to the use of a light tent. Onwards to the next round!

Say, we've got a Dewar's flask at the lab (by the way, our lab would make half the mad doctors and evil geniuses green with envy :D )
-
Hey Vanvlak, is it a chemistry or a physics lab you are talking about?
I myself am located in a chemistry lab, so don't have to be jealous lol

Chemistry - 8) 8)
Materials engineering at this end, with casting and heat treatment furnaces, an ion implanter, a physical vapour deposition machine and a nice old 9kW laser - the Dewars come as supporting cast :)

My entry for round two is away.
A bit of a clearer picture this time. Getting better at the photography with all the practice.
-
My entry's in.
-
Just a reminder that if you wish to enter a new or substitute team into round 2, I need to receive your entry by 0700 GMT tomorrow, Sunday 26th April.
Which is about 22 hours away! :o :o lol
The round 1 entries of contestants who do not send a replacement team, will continue into round 2 and be rematched against a different opponent.
Entries to lpleague3@yahoo.co.uk stating the name of your entry and your LAF username.
Also stating whether the team is newly painted / previously unpublished or not.
Happy painting :)
-
Mine's in. Now back to painting the next entry :) Good luck guys.
-
Doh, forget to mention that my entry for round 2 is a new entry.
I'll try to remember to put that in the emails from now on
-
The turf is drying on my second entry...I'll shoot some pictures tonight and send them to the Captain.
I'm really happy with them! They turned out the way I wanted them to be and I can really use them too. Yeah!
-

I'm so jealous ! I think it's the hardest part to get with painting : this achievement feeling.
And I'm far from it just now...
Oh !my... tic-tac...

Come on Matt, we know you'll produce something grand in the end :)
Meanwhile, thanks to some help from Tippex (the cat) who froze them in one spot with his baleful stare, the photo for the week 2 lot has been taken and submitted. Trouble is that they were trembling so hard (Tippex is GOOD at brushing models away with his paws!) I had trouble getting them in focus! ;D
-
My entry for the second round is in. Still rushing to make up for the time I lost in the (very busy) last two weeks? Those figures were supposed the be for round 5 but I had nothing else on my painting table that I could finish in time for round 2 so? ;D
-
Come on Matt, we know you'll produce something grand in the end :)
Thanks for your kind words, Vanklak, but now it's in, I'm sure you're wrong o_o
By the way, I'm glad to see you back.
meow,
Matt
-
I'm in, a few hours from deadline.
Round 3's figures just need a few touchups, then photos. Round 4 is underway - primer should go on tomorrow, with luck.

Okay... 43 replacement teams out of 44! :o
We're setting ourselves a punishing pace, team lol
-
Did you get mine captain
I did try to resend it.
-
Yep ;)
-
More entries inbound Captain. :D
-
Thanks captain
Sorry for the problems.
Can't wait for tommorrow.
