Title: Hero Minis Thread/Sticky?
Post by: Hat Guy on January 30, 2018, 06:34:07 AM
There have been a few threads around lately about people looking for certain heroes outside of Heroclix/Knight Models offerings. I was wondering if we want and/or need a thread (possibly a sticky) for people looking for more obscure and/or specific hero minis?

In response people can post "not-" versions, conversions and kitbashes to help each other out.

Just a thought.

That sounds like a great idea, a lot of the other subforums have similar threads.

A few Hasslefree (UK) suggestions:
Marvels (Netflix) Jessica Jones: http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=pulse~hfa168&category=modern-%26%0D%0Apost%252dapoc~modern-adventurers (http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=pulse~hfa168&category=modern-%26%0D%0Apost%252dapoc~modern-adventurers)

They also have a not Hellboy: http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=harby~hfa037&category=modern-%26%0D%0Apost%252dapoc~modern-adventurers (http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=harby~hfa037&category=modern-%26%0D%0Apost%252dapoc~modern-adventurers)

Crossover miniatures (US) have a whole line of supers and villains:
http://crossoverminiatures.com/product-category/heroes/ (http://crossoverminiatures.com/product-category/heroes/)
For us europeans, minibits (UK) sell them too: http://www.minibits.net/Crossover-Miniatures-c25/ (http://www.minibits.net/Crossover-Miniatures-c25/)

If you need a lot of civilians 1:48 (for 28mm) model train figures are great, easily found on ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=1%3A48+model+railway+people&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.X1%3A48+model+train+figure.TRS0&_nkw=1%3A48+model+train+figures&_sacat=0 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=1%3A48+model+railway+people&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.X1%3A48+model+train+figure.TRS0&_nkw=1%3A48+model+train+figures&_sacat=0)

If you're into 15mm supers Rebel Miniatures (US) have both heroes http://www.rebelminis.com/15suhepa.html (http://www.rebelminis.com/15suhepa.html) and villains http://www.rebelminis.com/15suvi.html (http://www.rebelminis.com/15suvi.html). They also have some usefull ninjas, cops and soldiers.
For 15mm civilians, look for 1:100 model train figures on ebay.

Sorry it took me a while to get back to this, been a busy week at work.

Those who read my blog (https://leadcapes.blogspot.com.au/ (https://leadcapes.blogspot.com.au/)) will know that I cast a pretty wide net over "superheroes", so some of what I throw up may not be entirely people in capes and tights.

Studio Miniatures (http://www.studiominiatures.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&layout=category&task=category&id=3&Itemid=383 (http://www.studiominiatures.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&layout=category&task=category&id=3&Itemid=383))

The "survivor" range has some good interpretations of cult film characters that can fit the "hero" mold:
Ash (Evil Dead)
The Terminator
John McClaine (Die Hard)
Snake Plissken (I heard he was dead?)
Nick Fury
Machete
Chuck Norris
Lara Croft
Jack and Egg (Big Trouble in Little China)
Indiana Jones

Just to name a few. Nice minis too, I have a few.

There are a number of miniatures from Crooked Dice that fit the bill:
Lawmen (and women)
Ninjas (and Daughters of Shiva) - actually a lot of Shiva comes in Hand-y.
Heroes and villains tick a number of boxes.

There are some (of my painted) examples on the not-Defenders thread (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=106864.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=106864.0)) and the A.G.E.N.T.S. label on my blog (and a thread here).

Just to fill out the roster from Hasslefree (http://www.hfminis.co.uk/ (http://www.hfminis.co.uk/))

Oakley - Ash (Evil Dead)
Tomoko - The Major (Ghost in the Shell)
Isseki - Bateu (Ghost in the Shell)
Destiny - Misty Knight/Cleopatra Jones (Marvel)
Lisa Lambaste - Ramona Flowers (Scott Pilgrim)
Maya - Lana (Archer)
Jashun Shaw - Sterling Archer (Archer)
Jynx - Scarlet Witch (MCU)
Rowen - Gwenpool (Marvel)
Foster - Jack Burton (Big Trouble in Little China)
Alex H - Deadpool (Marvel)
Dionne - Black Widow/Jedda Walker (Marvel/The Phantom)

Plus there are several "not-Buffy" figs, but I never got into it, so someone else will have to name those.

I wondered who inspired Rowan.

For Ms Romanova I would have said Ekaterina and Danica.

Ekaterina (as series three Chloe from A.G.E.N.T.S.)

Danica with Pulse. Though now based and undercoated I have to work out how to paint the "powered" Tonfa.

Though giving Crooked Dice's original Pandora a gun works.

Heresy's have a few figures useful for Super Heroics.

Human Paladin Monique might work for a sidekick for a Norse God (who sounds like a brand of scouring cream).

A couple of unexpected offerings in other miniatures ranges:

Infinity:

The "Zeros Hacker" (on the left) makes a decent Abe Sapien
(https://assets.corvusbelli.net/store/images/models/280587-0661-zeros-combi-rifle-hacker_1.jpg)

"Corregidor Bandits" with Boarding shotgun
(https://assets.corvusbelli.net/store/images/products/280578-0569-corregidor-bandits-boarding-shotgun.jpg)
I converted this into an "Arrow" Anarky by replacing the machete with a stun baton.

Warmachine/Hordes:

I'm planning to use "Scaverous" as Nekron (DC comics) as the Heroclix versions lack the menace I'm after for a major villain:

With a purple and green paint scheme, "Vayl" makes for a nice Lilith (Marvel):

I'm not sure if they're in-production anymore, but Lucid Eye's Savage Core have a couple of offerings:

Za Khor (Jungle Lord)
A decent Ka-Zar for Marvel fans.

Harranna (Jungle Queen)
An appropriate Shanna the She-Devil.

Reaper do a fine Sabretooth Cat for Zabu.

Incidentally, if someone has these kicking around, I'll happily take them off your hands.  :D

Burt Jackson (Jack Burton - Big Trouble in Little China)
El Rojo (Grifter - Wild CATS/DC)
Gloria with Knives/Uziz (Alice - Resident Evil)
Mad Daddy (Big Daddy - Kick-Ass)
Baby Doll (Hit Girl - Kick-Ass)

I'm going for completeness here, not objective quality.  ;)

Something different this time, a Shapeways store aimed at the Heroclix crowd. I've bought a couple of this guy's prints and they're pretty decent, though my Rom needed a lot of cleaning. Atomic Robo was nice though.
https://www.shapeways.com/shops/butterknife?li=pb (https://www.shapeways.com/shops/butterknife?li=pb)
As these are scaled for Heroclix, they're a bit on the big side, which really didn't bother me for Rom and Robo.

Scary, skinny man with gas mask (Scarecrow - Arkham Knight)
Robot Punch (Atomic Robo)
Mindless Rock Monsters (Mindless Ones - Marvel Comics)
Cape Man (Superman)
Pig Face (Kilowog - DC)
Maximum Hair Styles (The Maxx - Savannah)
Antman normal sized (Possibly Ant-Man or could be Killer Moth?)
Couple of girls up to no good (Misty Knight and Coleen Wing - Marvel)
Sillybot 1 (Dalek)
Sillybot 2 (Special Weapons Dalek - Remembrance of the Daleks)
Sillybot King (Dalek Emperor - New Who)
Motorcycle police from the future (Judge Dredd on bike - 2000AD)
Square Chin's friend (Batman)
Square Chin (Superman)
Cape man beefed up (Superman)
Orange Dude (Michelangelo - TMNT)
Jumpy Girl (Batgirl - Barbara Gordon)
Wise Rat (Splinter - TMNT)
Sports Fanatic (Casey Jones - TMNT)
Resized Purple Dude (Donatello - TMNT)
Blue Dude (Leonardo - TMNT)
Sticky hands Pete (Spider-Man)
That Guy who lives in your dreams (Mister Fear I think?)
Rip in half (Sentry killing Ares from Siege - Marvel)
Bodacious Bug Man (Killer Moth - DC)
Bugs Von Wiggles (Green Lantern Corps - DC)
Old Hob 4inch (Old Hob - TMNT)
Finhead the Cop (Savage Dragon - Image)
Slashnomask4inch (Slash - TMNT)
Animal Soldier (Rocksteady - TMNT)
Mouse Master (Rat King - TMNT)
Toe Ninjas (Foot Clan - TMNT)
Ninja Girl (Shredder's female offsider I don't know her name - TMNT)
Hobo Cat (Old Hob - TMNT)
Brainwashed Dude (Slash - TMNT)
Belly Face (Krang - TMNT)
Red Dude (Raphael - TMNT)
Spacey Box Head (Rom the Space Knight - Marvel/IDW)
Alien Gorilla (He's from Annihilation, but I can't remember his name - Marvel)
The Big Lucha (Bane - DC)
Smarty Bug (Green Lantern Corps - DC)
Angry Tennis Ball (Green Lantern Corps - DC)
Angry Snapper (Tokkar - TMNT)
Animal Punk (Bebop - TMNT)

Again, probably a few I missed there or got wrong. Interesting side note, this guy has a blog out there with a few unreleased sculpts, including Doctor Dinosaur (Atomic Robo). From what I can tell, he actually got hired by Wizkids as a digital sculptor, which is how I think he's still getting away with his stuff, as he's an open secret in the Clix community.

Bit of an odd one here, but if, like me, you frequent toy stores, you may have seen "Nano Metalfigs", a range of roughly 1/48 diecast figurines.
http://metalsdiecast.com/nanopacksize/singlepack/ (http://metalsdiecast.com/nanopacksize/singlepack/)
Now, the sculpting on their range of Marvel, DC , Harry Potter, Disney, Halo, Pro Wrestling and Street Fighter varies and never really comes close to "real" miniatures, but it is the cheapest 28mm(ish) Hulkbuster I've found. If you're super keen on adding Harry Potter and the Undertaker to your collection, that's your damage, but Baymax and Mr Incredible are nice enough and in the right scale.

It's also worth noting the really nice Batcave that I constantly struggle to not buy:

An odd one, but worth mentioning.

I picked up Gizmoduck. With a head swap he has great potential.
I also picked up Bison. Thought the fig, with the correct paintjob and base, would make a great statue.
There are others that could make great statues with a proper repaint. One of the Batmans and Supermahd would be great. Others as well.
But, will have to look for that Hulkbuster.
