I've been slowly whittling down the last few ideas fir a ScienceFiction version of Fistful of Lead. After all, what are great SF tales but simply Westerns in space?

Very interesting. 8)

Started with four players each controlling 5 figures. Then we had a late arrival, so the Alliance got 5 commandos and I got 5 Rebels and the chance to play.
When we got the first reinforcement Joker card, I had him roll: 1-3:1 guy, 4-6: 2 guys, 7-9: 3 and a roll of 10 got us 4. These started at the base line so would be slow to trickle in and we capped total reinforcements to 10. Which we got eventually. So if you do the math, out of 25 total Rebel troopers, 4 survived.
We got bunched up around the crash site. The Alliance had two guys in high ground positions and a combination of good cards and rolls cut us to pieces.
"Many Bothans died to bring to bring us this information".....

Thanks J
Sounds like it will be a very useful addition to the rules portfolio 8)

Hoping so. Got a few things in the hopper. French and Indian supplement to Horse & Musket, a Swashbuckling stand alone and this. If everything goes well with the SF version, Wasteland Warriors will finally see the light of day.

This ruleset looks interesting :o
-
I thought similar while ago ,an found a set reduced at a online war gaming store ,I think I bought black water gulch though?
-
This all sounds good!
-
Sounds really good. I like the idea the comment someone made about using it for a Strontium Dog setting, it sounds spot on for that.

Would Wasteland warriors be a supplement to the sci-fi rules then, and not standalone?

3 Fingers, my rules shouldn't be anywhere but on the Wiley Games store, Wargame Downloads and Wargames Vault, and not on sale. So I don't think you picked up Fistful of Lead.
Commander Roj, WW will be its own thing. I stopped work on it after some play tests. It was going in a direction I didn't like. I try to keep the mechanics simple but exciting and tactical. The nature of the Post Apoc world I was creating was more Gamma World and less Metro 2033. This means each mini becoming more of a character. Which isn't bad, but finding a way to do it that felt more in the spirit of the FfoL games is hard. And it was becoming more of a treasure hunt than anything else.

Excellent news, looking forward to seeing this come together. ;D

They are up in the loft I think, but like I said probably the black water gulch rule set ,but it was similar idea of using western rules for sci fi skirmishes.

My Sci-fi trooper’s have moved closer to the front of the painting queue! ;)

Look forward to this. IMO much small scale sic-fi stuff is the wild west in space anyway. :)
Will there be support for both 'extreme development/science' (i.e. very powerful deadly/protection stuff), post apocalypse (hunting for goodies with limited resources) and 'space magic' options (40k psych /star wars force type stuff)?
Or will you specify one of the settings?
-
Wild West in Space? That reminds me of Outland!

All,
my hope is these will be a nice toolkit for you to craft your own vision of what SciFi looks like.
The rules allows you to play a small scale wargame in the far flung future, a galaxy, far, far away, a grim, dark future 40,000 years from now, or a certain Red Planet where swords and rayguns reign supreme. Whatever YOU think Sci-Fi looks like, from your favorite Space Opera to gritty Pulp epic.
This is not a theoretical recreation of future combat, but rather a Hollywood take on the genre in question.
It is a great way to spend an hour or two having fun with your friends playing with space men.
The question now is whether I provide a supplement (a codex if you will) with a small selection of sample troops from each genre and a scenario for each or try to cram them into the rulebook. Right now I'm leaning towards a supplement that would be "unlocked" as part of the Kickstarter.
More towards what I hope to encompass: one player may be running d12 rolling Genetically Enhanced Supersoldiers vs 3 other players with grunts. or an Alamo/last stronghold about to be overrun by Bugs.
We'll have rules for powers wielded by the Templars of the Golden Light as well as The Templars of the Void. Use your laser sword to send a blaster shot right back them!
We game Thursday nights, so watch Friday for a second play test on the blog. This time it's SF things like robots and space armor.

Love it! I'll definitely back a Kickstarter project for this. I hope to get a game in at RECRUITS too!
-
I think I may just have to finally buy the Copplestone/em4 Colonial Marines I've never had the excuse to get. Thanks! ;)
-
I'll be at Recruits. I'll also be at Twister Con in OKC in March. Hoping that will be my kick of date for the Kickstarter.
-
Quit teasing us! We want it now. I'd put in one of those "shut up and take my money" things, but you've seen them all by now.
-
Definitely looking forward to seeing these :)
-
Another playlets tonight!

Great card 8)

That's Jolly Nice

That's Jolly Nice
Yep, we know someone who will like that ;) lol

I thought the Grandmaster of the Temple of the Infinite Void would be a good King of Spades.
-
I can see my Necromunda collection get used a lot for this as well. :)
