Title: Return to Necromunda
Post by: Gutbukkit on February 20, 2018, 01:51:16 PM
With the return of Necromunda my gaming group’s attention is turned to the Underhive. Regretfully I sold my Cawdor gang a few years back so I took this opportunity to get the new gangs and paint them up. The new Orlock kit is very nice and so I started there. I wanted to paint them in a similar scheme to the old Orlock models from the 90s. As I was painting him it became apparent that he reminded me of someone so I’ve named him Hans. He’ll always shoot first.

Top job  8)

Are you going to do any terrain?

Thanks.

Yep, I’m planning on doing something a bit different to the usual metal gantries and industrial equipment. I’ll be building a shanty town of sorts with concrete houses built on many levels combined with bulkheads from the new game. The inhabited part of the Underhive.

Very cool.  I just picked up the Orlock box on Sunday but haven't even opened it yet.  I'll get cracking on them after I run a AoS game on Sunday at my FLGS.

I still have my Cawdor and Delaque gangs but will probably try to sell the metal figs to replace them with the new plastics.

They just put up Mad Donna and Kal Jericho in the online store for purchase again.  The former is really showing her age as a figure.  Kal stands up pretty well though.

I will probably get him at least, although I promised my self no new figure purchases this week.

Love your paintjob on this - the old scheme from the original boxed set works really well!  :-*

Can't wait to see what you do with this.  I'm still a bit miffed about the direction of the new Necromunda, but I'm hopeful that my favourite three gangs (Cawdor, Van Saar, Delaque..in that order) will get decent sculpts.  I don't mind the Orlocks, but I've zero interest in the Goliaths or Eschers.

You've done a friggin' gorgeous job on that guy and it is a nice nostalgic nod on the colour scheme.

Very nice! How do you like the new rules? I have been hearing mixed reviews and some comments that it wasn't adequately play-tested.

Nice painting on him, looking forward to seeing his friends.

Is that one of the bases they come supplied with by the way?

Nice job.

So far I have resisted Necromunda 3,0, though this continues to erode that resistance.

I challenged myself at the start of the week to paint up my gang for tonight’s game of Necromunda. I decided the newer models are a bit more fiddly when it comes to painting so I started with some original Orlocks (and a few goliaths) in the hope their simpler design made painting easier and quicker. Tuesday I painted all their bases and Wednesday and Thursday I dedicated to painting the gang themselves. This morning I put the finishing details and varnish them ready for tonight. For someone who usually paints at the rate of 2 models a week, this was tough going. I’m happy with the results however and even more pleased I achieved my goal.

I give you the Sumptown Exiles.

Great work.  Some of the old Orlocks are pretty hit or miss for me, but some are great.  The shotgun guy is one of my favourite, while the melta-leader is one of my least favourites of the old line. :D

I was never a fan of Orlocks back when the game came out. I had Cawdor which I really liked the models for (then stupidly sold years later). A lot of these Orlock models I was given, including the captain, and during the painting of them began to appreciate them a lot more. Just bagged a heavy and the other captain sculpt off eBay so there will be more classic additions to the gang.

Yeah those Orlocks are very nice miniatures. Much underappreciated. I guess they were outshined by more stylistically brutal gangs. But they are cool and they still are good miniatures. I realized that only after getting them when I was starting collecting 1st edition Munda. I wasn't interested by them apart from collecting factor but I ve grown to love the mini when I saw them in flesh and how fine they take the paint.
