Title: Nišavellir Shipyard - Dropfleet Commander
Post by: Engel on February 24, 2018, 07:40:40 PM
My friend Filip and I decided to make a Dropfleet Commander dedicated blog.
The plan is to collect all our Dropfleet related miniatures and efforts there. To collect links and things to the game at this place.
A small hub in space.
Its still in construction but we feel its ready enough to take on visitors.

Welcome to the Nišavellir Shipyard

http://nidavellir-shipyard.blogspot.se (http://nidavellir-shipyard.blogspot.se)

Some of things to come you may already have seen from my Dropzone thread but I will add up with newer material.

Excellent addition! I love well thought-out auxiliaries.

I was a bit surprised by the under-dimensioned engines, as I assume they'd need to be strong to 'drag' rescued ships.

Absolutely, should be undergunned, if gunned at all. Not that familiar with Dropship, though a I'm dyed-in-the-wool vacchead, but 'never leave home without railguns' seems right out!  ;D

Thanks Doug.

Yeah the engine part sounds rather wrong... Maybe just remove that line in the desciption.
Comparing this kitbash with the regular ships from the game I lack the number or size of engines. So I wanted some kind of explanation to why that was. Maybe they are strong enought but have a lower max speed.

I wanted some small armament for close protection against small pirates band or its like. This is meant to be able to be sent to the front line.
Future auxilia shiptypes might not carry guns.

Absolutely! Just meant anyone asking for MORE ordinance, as I assume rail guns indicated heavies, is missing the point.  ;)

The UCM forces had located a couple of militarybases in close proximity on the iceplanet of Rafrurn that would be a nice target for ground forces. To get a stable foot on the ground firmy secured.

PHR ships was noticed closing in on the same location...
Had enemy spotters seen our movement, eather by ground or aerial spotters? Had the UCM fleet been observed in space? Was there an spy in the fleet?
Or could it just be that the PHR forces at random just happen to be at the same place at the same time?

The United Colonies of Mankind have come in contact with forces of the Post Human Republic yet again over the planet of Solvor.

In this area of conflict we find two larger cities and orbiting these are two military space stations. The weaponry on the space stations are currently off line but should be in good shape and could be put back in to work, someone just need to land troops on the large space stations to activate them again.

Using some leftover bits I constructed this small ship.
I call it Grebbestad class Clipper. Name or class may change in the future but it will do for now.
Its meant to represent a smaller ship used for transporting people, messages or small amount of cargo at high speed.
I hope to include it in a special scenario in the future.

Agreed; that's a good looking ship, which can feature in a whole range of special scenarios. 8)

Something like an escort mission immediately comes to mind, but I reckon it would be quite a challenge without any special rules, cloaking device or stealth option, considering the absolutely brutal damage dealt in the game... ;)

You might be able to outmaneuver UCM or PCR (mind those broadsides though), but Scourge or Shaltari would be quite the puzzle.

But for the same reasons I've been thinking of getting that pre-UCM ship that Hawk/TTC brought out last year. It's cruiser sized, so a bit more robust (but seriously undergunned), but could be used in the same types of missions.

Nice work all around.  I'm extremely jealous - haven't gotten a chance to even try fiddling with the Resistance kits yet, and barring a commission I don't see the budget stretching to do so anytime soon.

Got quite a few Dropfleet conversions and kitbashes on my own blog if you want some more potential ideas for using up leftovers:

I think the gallery of space station kits builds is still my most popular post ever by views.  Certainly my largest:

Agreed.  The nose art on the UCM ships is a particularly nice touch.  Definitely one of those "why didn't I think of that?" ideas.  Might work well on the PHR hulls too, maybe as decals - they've got so much smooth blank space for that kind of thing.

Chief Lackey Rich > Ive visited you blog before. That post on space station is full of nice ideas.

Best plastic kit ever made for starship gamers if you ask me - although I haven't gotten a chance to play with the Resistance ships yet.  I suspect using parts from both the stations and Resistance will make for some incredible designs, especially if you're not married to the idea of keeping the result Dropfleet-legal.

I'm inclined to agree with you on how pretty the Santiagos are, although I'm also a big fan on their monitor designs for sheer chunkiness - they're almost on par with the Resistance destroyers for that.
