I’m sure there are many ex Guilders and new members around here who are not aware of the new place, and would welcome the chance to join in with the community and cameraderie of the Old Guild.
The Wargamers' Forum is the new home. Have a look and if you like what you see come and join in at http://thewargamersforum.com/ (http://thewargamersforum.com/)
-
Already signed up and it seems to be very much like The Guild, at first take, perhaps even friendlier.
-
Not one bit.
-
I've joined (rejoined!)
-
Either they're overwhelmed with tons of membership requests, or they've gotten lazy. Been waiting over two weeks for my membership to be approved. :-[
Re-evaluating whether I "really" miss them
-
Bravo Six, summat up there mate! I re-applied, it was all sorted in a couple of hours.
???
-
To be completely honest, until the original post on this thread I’d never heard of it.
:?
Had a quick look just now and it didn’t look particularly busy, so on those rare occasions I’ve got a bit of spare time I’ll be on here or failing that, probably Random Platypus.
-
Same as Akula.
Never heard of it before.
-
First I'd heard of it, as well! Put an application in to join a few days ago, but nothing heard yet.
-
I used to be a member, and the WIP board and the various grand Guild games pictorials (especially Red Tide 2010, IIRC) are sorely missed.
I didn't register for the new one as there was some ruckus about it at the time and the Battlegroup forum was more relevant to my interests.
-
Well still nothing heard here after a week. They're not very responsive to new member applications...

Same here. Received the auto reply to say a person has to authorise, then nothing.
Beginning to wonder if it is worth bothering. The old Guild was none too appreciative of those of us who gamed WW2 in 6mm at the best of times.

It's probably because they know it's us... ;) o_o ;D
-
To be fair I had no problem re-registering. Sadly, in my 'umble opinion, it seems as abandoned as a cowboy town after the gold mine's conked out.
:'(

I'm inclined to believe that! :D

Harry, does it have all the eye candy it once had? I know for 20mm modern stuff, it WAS unparalleled.
-
Not really, most of the stuff in the 'gallery' I'd already seen on here!
:)

Or anything which wasn't 20mm WW2...
-
Well I'm no gamebob grumpypants lol... there was always a welcome for me and being a bit teflon I'd likely miss it if they weren't. I'll give it a go. ;)

Two weeks gone... ::)

Hi All
I am one of the admins of 'The Wargamers' Forum'. Thanks for bringing this issue to light.
All applications are dealt with within 24 hours and usually within a couple of hours.
On average we receive c.50 requests a day, and this can rise to 100+. On average one of these, per WEEK, is genuine, the rest being spam.
To deal with the large number of requests quickly, they are rejected if the email address used is associated with forum spam, and/or contains wording that suggests it is related to spam or porn sites.
To ensure that your request for membership is quickly approved, we suggest that your choice of user name is either obviously related to the hobby, or military history, or to a real person.
If your request is not approved within 24 hours please use the 'Contact Us' email link at the bottom of the forum home page, let us know the email address and username you used. Unfortunately, we may have to ask you to resubmit your request.
Hope that helps.

Anyone, gaming any aspect of the hobby, is welcome at 'The Wargamers' Forum'. Any period, in any scale is most welcome and positively encouraged. There is still quite a bit of WW2, 20mm content, as that is the interest of many of the current members, who migrated from the old Guild. As material relating to other time periods and scales is posted, we are hoping to gradual see the balance redressed and be more representative of the broad breadth of this wonderful hobby of ours.
The Forum is still, relatively quiet, compared to the old Guild and to this illustrious place. A the time of posting the stats are showing an average of 38 posts per day. With time, and with more, regular, posters, that will improve and grow.

Thanks Chris. I used the 'Jemima Fawr' tag, as it's what I use on several forums and as the title of my blog (it's also directly related to military history - The Battle of Fishguard 1797). Email address was a Hotmail one, so shouldn't be too suspicious.

PM sent.
I'll get it sorted for you.

Only if you sort out the sign up shambles.
-
Be fair robh.
Part-time volunteers versus full-time, professional spammers is hardly an equal contest. I have a lot of respect and gratitude for anyone who gives up their own time to make a forum like this or any other function well. We should be supporting each other against spammers.
Is there a clever trick to spot the difference between a spammer and a genuine wargamer short of a Turing test or CAPTCHA?
-
Chris, I'm still waiting for a validation or welcome email myself. Going on over a month at this point.
-
Now going on two months, give or take. :?
-
Using the "contact us" link as they suggest does not help either. No-one responds to that either.
-
The 'Contact us' link is monitored at least once every 24 hours. It has been successfully used as recently as today. I will look into it tomorrow (now very late here) and see what if anything can be done to improve the way we use it.
Please feel free to PM me here if you have had any problem registering. We are still experiencing a high number of spam regiistrations,on average c.100 a day with more at the weekends.
I've not had the time to visit this thread, but will now add it to my frequent visit list, which in practise will mean once or twice a week. If you PM me the email alert will get me on solving your issue more quickly.

A little update. We have tested the 'Contact Us' link this morning and it is working as intended. However, we have increased the monitoring of it, so that the response to received emails is quicker.

My account has been sorted out and I had a quick look this morning. Will need a while to catch up with where the Guild was at the end but there are still some good scenarios and AARs with plenty of pictures and useful reviews and discussions.
Great to see a forum where people post images and text not just links to their click funded blogs.

Anyone else being blocked from the Wargamers' Guild today? My IP address is apparently a 'security risk' (I'm on BT Internet, which is probably the UK's largest internet provider).
-
No, but I tried to join a while ago and never got the conformation emal. :(

Have you tried emailing the admins?

I had the same problem but it was sorted out that way. Drop Chris Steadman a PM on here.

I am the same, but I have been assured it is ok. Apparently the HTTP has not been changed over to HTTPS causing a security risk, but I am not 100% up on these type of things though.
It will possibly get done on the next update.

Due to some idiocy on my side and a Safari problem I've exceeded the number of log-in attempts for my account.
Unfortunately the CAPTCHA puzzle thingy doesn't work so I seem to be permanently locked out for now. I've dropped a note via the link above so hopefully fixable?
-
I'm having trouble signing in. I tried registering first and it said my email was already in use.
To be honest, I can't remember what my username used to be- probably Atheling like here on LAF.

Keith - PM me your username for the forum and I will take a look. For some reason your message via the contact admin page has not come through. I'm having trouble signing in. I tried registering first and it said my email was already in use.

Atheling - likewise, PM me your email address and I'll work out your username.

I know the admin are aware of tech issues and I’m sure they’ll sort you out ASAP. Hang in there .... it’s worth it. 👍

Thanks SABOT! :D

@Chris Steadman
Upon re-reading your posts on page 2, you said you were one of the Admins at "The Wargamers Forum". Actually, you mentioned it twice. Did you mean The Guild? Because that's where I'm having an issue joining.

Ehm, The Guild does not exist anymore mate. Would explain why you have an issue....Got a link to where you are trying to go?

I can't log in either..... ??? ??? ???
Strange. I just logged in fine, no issues.
-
Yes that's the forum I'm looking for and trying to join. The URL says Wargamers Guild, but Chris was calling it The Wargamers Forum. Hence the confusion.
-
It was the Wargamers Guild for a short while but became the Wargamers Forum by request and so the "Guild" part is gone and replaced by "Forum".
You may sign up at http://thewargamersforum.com/ (http://thewargamersforum.com/)

I'm in now....... very odd ???
A glitch in the matrix as they say :)
-
I'm still having issues. Emails to the Admin have gone unanswered so I give up.
*drops mic

Just wanted to make it clear that several months ago, I severed ties with the Wargamers Forum, due to unacceptable behaviour by others, and I no longer have any involvement there. If you wish to contact a Wargamers Forum admin, there should be, at the very bottom of the home page, a 'Contact Us' link.

That was the initial address, which only lasted about a week (legal issues) and was changed a couple of years back, as Alan says above try...
