Finally started adding to the 28mm Japanese catalogue again (15mm will be added to in due course) this time starting with a simple blacksmiths. The code is JV-07 and it'll go in the catalogue next week. It's £27.50 and comes in seven parts (shown below).
It's being moulded tomorrow and I'll start to cast them up later in the week.

Very, very nice 8)

Lovely! The Oshiro Japanese buildings are, in my humble opinion, the best available. It's great to see the range getting added to and I hope you won't be stopping there?
-
Thanks chaps :)
I hope you won't be stopping there?
Working on a couple at the moment but more when they are ready.
-
Very sharp! The forge is really nice, especially the coal details :-*

One for Salute please :)
-
One for Salute please :)
Bring a baseball glove and I'll lob one over :D
-
He really looks like a samurai, not a smith.
-
Another nice model to add to the list, especially as it's a bit different as in a working building rather than just a domestic one.
As already mentioned the coals work really well, just a question about the wooden block is it an 'anvil'? or some other object?
I'll not be at Salute this year so will miss your amazing table, assuming you are putting it on but wish you a successful show.
Cheers

Thanks :)
It's a Japanese bellows, quite an interesting bit of kit.
No game this year but we'll be back next year with several smaller ones, mostly participation :)

Wow that does sound interesting, I'm just starting to get round to adding to my small Sengoku village so this might well be on the cards.
So it looks like I might have to make a date for next year if possible.
Cheers

Nice addition to the range there James
-
looks great...
-
Love the building.
Your buildings are the best.
-
Thanks chaps :)
Will have some new releases tomorrow I hope.
-
Very well done James. :-* :-*
-
Cheers mate :)
Got some more masters done, this time mainly for the religious range. It’s rural temple set up and at the moment there’s a gateway and reading room (the gateway could be doubled for a residential entrance).
There will be a set available when it’s all done (still working on the temple proper) and will consist of the temple, two reading rooms, a gateway, a hand wash station and a temple offering the hand wash station will be shown tomorrow and the temple offering is already available here http://www.oshiromodelterrain.co.uk/catalogue28.html#additions (http://www.oshiromodelterrain.co.uk/catalogue28.html#additions)
The buildings will be in the catalogue later in the week but for now the gateway is £30 and the reading room is £20

The next master is a fairly generic building which could either be used for a village or as a barracks block for a yamashiro. This will also be in the catalogue later in the week and is £15

:-* :-*Great additions James
-
All rather splendid,
-
full eyes as always :-* :-*
-
Thanks chaps :)
-
love the simplicity and the clean lines of these
-
Lovely buildings. This is definitely the definitive Japanese range of buildings.
-
Love the buildings but would really like to see them with removable roofs, so much of the Samurai trend these days seems to be skrimish games, Ronin, Test of Honour and others. All really benifit from builings that you can put your figures into.
I have not picked up any in quite awhile as I have a bunch of ones from Tre, 4Ground and others that have lift of rooms and interiors.
William
-
I'm afraid removable roofs won't be an option. We play plenty of skirmish games in many different periods and virtually none of the buildings we use have removable roofs, it certainly doesn't detract from the game play at all :)
Ronin, Test of Honour and others. All really benefit from buildings that you can put your figures into.
Only if you choose to play it that way ;)
-
As the traditional Japanese buildings were pretty small in general, I don't find it an issue with not having removable roofs. Personally I'd rather have a good quality, good looking building than one I wasn't as happy with in quality and aesthetic terms but with a removable roof. Having seen most of the Japanese ranges (mdf through to resin) over a very long period of dithering (detailed research and procrastination!) I went for Oshiro and I am very happy with them.
-
Really nice additions there Jim 👍 very sharp
Pitching in on the removable roof debate- I play nothing but skirmish level and have never felt like a game suffered from not having a removable roof. Since figures are restricted by their bases anyway you don't really get a fair representation of who can fit where inside a building. If I ever have elements of my games inside a building I just draw a floor plan on some paper and use that, but my games do tend to be a tad looser with the rules than most other people though so I'm hardly a standard case study ;)
-
Cheers fellas :)
Got a handwash station finished as well now, just the temple to go lol
It'll be on the website in a day or two and is £15

Another fine addition to the ever expanding range

Looks nice, James.
Is there a historical example on which the smithy is based on?
-
Looks nice, James.
Is there a historical example on which the smithy is based on?
The equipment certainly and the actual house is conjecture from several sources. I've had to simplify it somewhat to make it castable.
-
Thanks for the answer, I know that the equipment is right.
I was more wondering about the placement of the forge as such ;)
-
I know what you mean but I've had to strike a balance :)
-

Understandable :)

Got a new master ready for moulding next week. It's another large village building. JV09 - £17.50 and will be available next month.

I've had a bit of a re-arrange with the Japanese sections of the catalogue. They are now all in one place (28's, 15's and Edo/Meiji) as this will allow for new ranges/scales to be added easily; namely 40mm and 6mm.

No date on the 'mountain temple' yet but as soon as it's ready I'll let you all know :)

Thanks Helen :)
Your welcome. :-)

I've finally gotten round to re-mastering the 28mm odou (one set of moulds failed which put this back for a bit). It now has a simple interior to allow for figure placement if you so wish. The best thing is that it's the same price as before :)
The kit comprises of seven parts and the photos are below :)

The intention is to remould all the 28mm buildings with simple interiors but only when the original moulds go. Some could be awhile lol
-
What kind of roofing does the odou have? I’ve got an mdf one I want to jazz up without doing tiles , I was actually going to buy this but it wasn’t in production! If only I had waited a month or two!
-
They could have tiles, wooden shingles or as in this one just plain planking (the reference photo I mainly used for this one is of a reconstructed one near Nagoya). I haven't seen a thatched one though.
You could still buy it and throw the mdf one away :D
-
That sounds like a better idea 😂😂😂
-
Huummm!!! Interesting. :)
-
Cheers mate :)
-

Great stuff James. You will be getting some more of my money. I think that you need to sculpt some flanged rice pots to go on top of the oven. I remember seeing some large versions of those ovens on Saipan, six across if I remember correctly. Probably from a barracks civilian (Nanyo Kohatsu Kaisha) or military.
-
Cheers fella, sent you a pm :)
-
They are rather nice additions. Background 'stuff' shouldn't be underestimated in a gaming set up, it can really bring a table to life.
-
Indeed. It does bring a table to life.
Nice additions. :-*
-
Very nice. Love the oven 8)
-
Many thanks chaps :)
-
Very Nice as with all your stuff mate! ;) They would be great to enhance any Japanese village.
-
Very nice stuff Jim :-* :-* :-*
-
Cheers :)
-
Just a couple of things to note :)
Firstly, as the UK is in lockdown again for the foreseeable future there will be only one trip to the post office per week (usually Wednesday).
Secondly, we won't be taking VAT off prices in the webshop because we are not at the VAT threshold but...
Thirdly, we will be reducing the vast majority of prices throughout the webshop starting with the Japanese ranges.
Lastly, there is a slight change to JA19 'Well to do luggage'. This set has three items and not the two as previously advertised.
Additions, walls and 15mm village and post town buildings first off with the rest to follow in the coming weeks.
Pictures are getting updated in the webshop as well to fit with the new releases style 👍

Some new 15mm buildings in the webshop today :)
Two new town houses and a couple of religious buildings (following the 28mm range). I've nearly got the 15mm boats finished and am also working on a pagoda and new castle walls so hopefully there'll be a fairly steady stream of releases for the 15m fans :)
I've also re-modelled the base of the odou (for both types) but the price stays the same.

Those look pretty amazing! :o

Lovely :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks chaps :)
-
Lovely models. However who makes state-of-the-art “Samurai” figures in 15mm. I recall fondly the “Two Dragon Miniatures” figures which I think are still available but they must be nearly 25-30 years old.
Thanks
-
Peter Pig.
-
Peter Pig are great.
In the US Old Glory 15mm also do a comprehensive collection - https://oldglory15s.com/Samurai-1530-1615_c510.htm
The madaxeman site has a lit of other vendors as well: https://www.madaxeman.com/adlg/tiki-index.php?page=Samurai

Beautiful buildings. Well done James.

I've nearly got the 15mm boats finished
Jim, any WIPs of these?
-
Nope :D lol
-
Oh boy..... ::)
-
They’ll be fine ;)
-
It's not the boats I'm worried about... ;)
-
What then ???
-
Just ordered a few of the 15mm buildings James. They look great by the way.
What will be next for the range after the boats?
-
Got it thanks. Next post office trip on Monday I think.
Pagoda and the castle walls including the tenshu :D
-
But you won't see WIPs of those either. :D
Seriously though.... looking forward to the new releases James.
-
New 15mm items should be released next month but in the meantime there's three new entries in the 28mm additions section. They are just multiples of popular items added by several requests.
I've also got painted options for the additions range that will be followed by other sections in the fullness of time :)
The painted versions come like the catalogue photos. Some colours may vary but the style and details are as seen.

I've added painted options for the religious section on the 28mm Japanese catalogue. There's also an option for either a red or a brown torii :)

I'm always amazed that your 15mm buildings have such a Hugh level of detail on them. You could be mistaken for thinking they were 28mm.

Thanks :)

Time to start updating the existing 28mm ranges (those that need it).
The Yamashiro section is up first along with some new additions to the range with several more building and walls options to follow in the coming weeks :)
All the buildings have been re-mastered with simple interiors added for extra gameplay.

Nice!

Bloody hell! That tower is brilliant, all my Mifune dreams come to life :)
-
It's is brilliant, isn't it.
-
Cheers fellas :)
-
Superb stuff James - bet they look great all together on a thematic table with troops.
I confess I have no idea of what the stones on the roof are for. Are they to keep the roof in place, or are they just stored there to chuck of on someone's head when opportunity strikes?
Also - love the modularity of these, especially the tower, which seems to be relatively easy to store when not in use.
-
The stones help to hold down what is otherwise quite a lightweight roof construction from wind damage, etc.
-
Very nice James!
-
Thanks gents :)

As Elk mentioned, it's for protection against the wind (I've been there during a couple of very bad typhoons and it definitely makes sense).
I'm going to make a small 2' x 2' board that is basically all yamashiro over the summer and I'll post it here when I start.

Hi, I love your products and have been tempted to game Samurai in 15mm for some time. I mainly game in 28mm do don't know the 15mm market very well. Which manufacturers are best? Also, can you recommend rules for "small unit/large skirmish" type rules? I did hear of a samurai version of the Two Fat Lardies "Dux" rules but don't know if they ever found traction with gamers.
Thanks
-
Thanks :)
I use Peter Pig for pretty much everything but there are also plenty of options from Old Glory, Eureka, Museum Miniatures and Dragonfrog.
As to rules, I haven't actually played with the 15mm figures yet, even though I've got two forces painted up lol
There is a samurai version of Lion Rampant that I'm going to give a go at some point soon (I hope).
-
These look lovely James, and the painting is to a very good standard.
And I see you’re only charging twice the price for painted models. Unlike Grand Manner - four times the price for the raw resin version! :o
Makes yours look like quite a bargain :)
-
Man, they look great! To be honest, for someone like me who is a very slow painter, something like this is a fantastic deal.
-
Thanks chaps :)
Cheap, but worth every penny darling lol
-
10mm next? :D
-
Dont give him ideas.
Let him finish the 15mm first. :D
Now you make me sell your unpainted stuff and buy the painted ones. ;D

I've added a small food or weapon store to the Yamashiro section of the webshop. It's based on the one at Sakasai-jo and has a removable roof with a simple interior. I've also changed the two corner sections so they now have only two 'panels' each as opposed to four. It makes them more suitable for smaller layouts.

I've finished off the yagura (watchtower) for the 28mm Yamashiro. It's loosely based on the one at Sakasai-jo and has simple playable interiors.

I've now added painted options for all the 15mm buildings in the webshop. Also, the normal walls are undergoing remastering and moulding and they'll be ready for the new year with new options available. I'll also have the 28mm yamashiro options available in 15mm in the New Year.

I've only recently started looking at Samurai related things in forums and such, but your work immediatedly stands out like a... pleasant to look at and entirely healthy thumb. :) Very inspiring! (Is there btw, any chance down the line, that you might do an odd Korean building here or there? Asking for a friend. ;))
-
Thanks :)
Very doubtful that I’ll do a Korean range I’m afraid. Not enough interest out there for one.
I am open to commission work of course if that would be of interest?
-
I've gotten round to adding some more Japanese additions to the webshop and I've got a few more on the go along with the small boats that have been missing for far too long. They should be out in a week or two.
I've also re-modelled the signpost to give a bit more heft.
Along with these new releases I've reduced the prices a little bit (including the painted options) on most of the Japanese additions range :)

Fairly big announcement. I'm going to be re-releasing the 28mm villages buildings (with the exception of JV12) so that they have accessible interiors.
It will hopefully be via Kickstarter at the end of Feb/early March.
I've already made a start on the masters, some of which are shown below.
I'll be retiring the originals at the end of this month (January).

Lovely! You can never have too many of your Japanese buildings. They're (in my opinion) the best out there.
-
Thanks :)
Assuming this is successful I'll probably do the rest of the ranges as well as adding more to them. Fingers crossed :)
-
Little update on the 28mm Japanese village buildings.
All the new masters are now complete and I'm sorting out the moulding and initial castings as I want to show potential arrangements of them. First off is JV01 and a shot of the first five.
This will most likely be on Kickstarter with the pre-launch at the end of March/beginning of April. There's still quite a bit to do and I want to do a decent job of the promo pictures.
I've added a gallery at the bottom of the catalogue page to help show the progress :)
