Another, maybe even better Obi Wan is from Skullforge Studios! Dynamic pose, flowing robe, crisp Clone armour, I like the sculpt.
Shapeways model in Smoothest Fine Detail, still some rough spots though...

Fantastic painting Agis! :-*
-
Great paint!
Well done.
tt43.
-
I hate you so much right now. ;)
Those are so beautifully painted it makes me want to cry.
-
Superb :-*
Not enough to get me to buy them though lol
-
He, he, thanks folks!
An extra day off is always welcome, I used the time to finish the 1st Rebel squad:
I even took some extra time to create a nice scenic shot, Lens flare and all...

Excellent.

And the WIP conversions for the next Rebel squad.
Left: Head swap with Statuesque minis, bottle, helmet from Victoria minis.
Leader: bendy WotC head, Grenades and arms from GW IG
Right: extra shoulder pads from Anvil Industries.
:)
-
Very cool 8)
-
Nice.
-
Looking good (as usual) ;)
-
Excellent conversions Agis. I was going down the same path with some of the rebels. I wasn't sure if the Bith head was too big or not and so I went with a Mon Calamari head for my leader. I like the shoulder pads to add some differences. They look nice. This shows the advantages of having a large collection of bits.

-
Marvelous work there!
Inspiring stuff.
I also heartily agree with the comment about a well-stocked bits box being a thing of joy and beauty.
-
Thanks folks!
... This shows the advantages of having a large collection of bits.
Agreed, you can't have too much bits! ;)
-
I haven't really been a fan of the Legion minis but your conversions and paint jobs really bring them to life, well done sir.
-
The left and the right conversions are nice, but the middle? The head is ok, the weapons are too much 40k. Never saw a SW Chainsaw...

LOL, look again it is NOT a chainsword, it is a generic sword which qualifies easily for a generic Star Wars Vibrosword!

The Empire Storm Trooper are nice overall minis, IMO a bit tall (even taller than the Rebels).
As with my Rebels I did not use the cone-like FFG bases but flatter 25mm plastic bases.

??? Ah, what?
Another question: Do you prime your stormtroopers white or black?
White!
-
??? Ah, what?
A Vibro Sword. Looks really like 40K. Maybe a Mantic-Weapon looks a little more Star Wars.

Nahh, IMO the sword I used is pretty generic... 8)

What do you mean? The base size or anything else? And was is "FacebookWorld"?
-
What do you mean? The base size or anything else? And was is "FacebookWorld"?
I was referring to the hilarious comments you received from the chaps on Facebook regarding swapping the bases.
(And the funny little world that they must live in, where no-one is allowed to 'change' anything...)
;)
-
Ah that one, yes some folks are a bit tight when it comes to rebasing. changing or even converting something...
;)
-
Excellent work both on the conversions and the paintjobs!
The vibrosword pic from the Star Wars wiki looks like GW Ork swords might actually work, too. If I remember correctly, there was a similar spare sword on the boyz sprues. Will have to take a look at home.
-
awesome work. I was told the Imperial assult never scaled well with the Legion but the don't look too bad.
-
Ah that one, yes some folks are a bit tight when it comes to rebasing. changing or even converting something...
;)
I believe that's been semi-settled by the email questions FFG has done, many of which have the questions and answers posted on the FFG boards.
Their answer was pretty much that as long as it isn't a change in size for the base, it's allowed. They aren't supposed to be thinner either, but can have things on top of it.

Legion - Clone Wars
Soon after the arrival of Legion some back market models appeared, first scenery, then head swap conversion parts and finally full models.
I was pleased to see that Mel (see my X-Wing models) is also doing some very good Clone Trooper!
So time to paint some!
From left to right, Phase II CT with DC-15S blaster carbine, ARC Trooper (maybe Rex?) and Phase II CT with DC-15A Blaster Rifle. So models are of good quality (the sculpts are in fact flawless), but some print lines appear and need to be carefully removed wherever possible. They are painted in the colours of Rex’s 501st Legion.
The always welcome comparison picture:
From left to right, FFG Legion Trooper, Phase II CT with DC-15A Blaster Rifle ARC Trooper and FFG Heavy Trooper.
As you can see the Mel CTs are more realistic proportioned, while FFG has the chunky “heroic” scale GW look. Both are nice models by themselves!
I am planning to paint 2 or 3 Clone squads and some corresponding lists for my Victory Decision Future Combat system.

-
After the big CW annoucement yesterday I am even more hyped to paint some CW minis.
All Clones from Mel, Yoda is an old bendy WotC mini.
Three ARC Trooper of the 501st Legion. One with Z-6 Rotary Blaster Cannon, one DC-15S Blaster and DC-15A Blaster Sniper Rifle.
More as ever on my site: http://www.adpublishing.de/html/legion.html
-
Mel also started to produce Jedi to lead the clones! Obi Wan Kenobi is the 1st.
A very good mini with also very little printlines!
And the always productive Mel also offers Droids and the infamous General Grievous!
As you can see two of the 4 sabers are missing the brittle Shapeway material simply broke away and the saber itself was too tiny to replace the blade. Anyway I received a full refund and the model still looks cool IMO.
more - B1 and 2 Droids, Count Dooku - on my site: http://www.adpublishing.de/html/legion.html

Very nice work on Obi Wan and Grievous ;D
-
Are the clone troopers Legion or Imperial Assault sized?
Long wanted to do clone wars, but not if it's Legion sized, as they would tower over all my other figures :(
-
Thanks folks!
Are the clone troopers Legion or Imperial Assault sized?
Legion sized, but more realistic proportioned.
See: (http://www.adpublishing.de/CT_501st_2comp.jpg)
The always welcome comparison picture from my site: From left to right, FFG Legion Trooper, Phase II CT with DC-15A Blaster Rifle ARC Trooper and FFG Heavy Trooper.
-
Two more Clones!
The ARC Trooper are now pretty complete.
Four ARC Trooper of the 501st Legion. One with DC-15S Blaster, DC-15A Blaster Sniper Rifle, Z-6 Rotary Blaster Cannon and one Trooper aims with his RPS-6 Rocket Launcher.
The good thing with all the Legion hype is that the aftermarket is also booming.
Several terrain kits popped up, one of my favourites are the Tatooine buildings in hard foam from Micro Art Studio.
Luke and two Trooper (Imperial Assault) are getting into it in front of the “Desert Habitat” - right out of Ep. IV!

FFG themselves are doing terrain pieces (https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2018/3/9/fortify-your-battlefield/). I picked up the Priority Supplies set yesterday as well

I was amazed to see some excellent Shoretroopers on Shapeways. Being a big Rogue One fan (IMO the best of the 4 new movies) I was very curious and ordered some.
The minis fit perfectly to Legion minis from FFG! Even better than Mels!
Coastal defender stormtroopers, more commonly known as shoretroopers, were a specialized variant of the Galactic Empire's stormtroopers trained and equipped for combat in tropical environments. Stationed at the top secret Imperial security complex on the tropical planet Scarif, shoretroopers patrolled the beaches and bunkers of the facility.
Shoretroopers operated effectively as sergeants which allowed them to command small squads of regular stormtroopers. One of the notable aspects of coastal defender stormtroopers was that the position they serve in was rotational (temporary); subject to rank (skills and qualification) and operational demands (open positions due to mobilization or transfers). On a galactic scale, shoretroopers as a whole were scarce, as the conditions for necessitating their employment were less frequent, as few stations or garrisons were located on coastal/tropical planets.
Shoretroopers wielded both the E-11 blaster rifle and the upgraded E-22 blaster rifle while stationed on Scarif. They also carried a thermal imploder.

It appears that they are based in Ireland, Agis, so Customs should not be such a problem.

Shipped internationally (anywhere outside of Ireland) it costs €5.50. If you want to combine postage on items, just contact us and we'll get you an estimate.

I've seen their stuff, but my printer's not big enough for most of it :'(
I hadn't realised they were in Ireland, although it doesn't matter so much if you're buying the STLs and printing them yourself.

I saw your post on the new Star Wars Legion figs and I really like what you have done with them. You also posted some of the Shapeways resin figs. Who does the Shoretrooper figs (link)?
On Mel's Clone figs, you wrote they have a lot of mold/print lines, so was this a big problem. I have been thinking of getting them along with some battle droids but to be honest, even with your great painting they don't look so great. Was this a production problem at Shapeways?
-
Thanks for the kind comment.
:)
Search for Mels Miniatures and Skullforge Studio on Shapeways.
Skullforge is a bit chunkier, more like FFGs legion minis.
Shapeway prints are still a bit troublesome,
Even at smoothest material you often have printlines, you can smooth it a bit brushing over it with mineral oil or scratching it away.
Afterwards you HAVE to clean the whole mini with a ultrasonic cleaner (come handy anyway).
-
Thanks for the info. So were the Clones just a printing OR design issue, as you mention others from Shapeways are good.
FYI, I am very very new to the Star Wars figures, as I am more of an historical gamer, but my son loves Star Wars....and you know how that goes. ;)
-
Thanks for the info. So were the Clones just a printing OR design issue, as you mention others from Shapeways are good.
IMO it is not a design issue, it is an issue who is doing the after print job.
Some minis are great other OK.
The good thing is that you can get a refund from Shapeways if the mini is obviously mishandled.

Every time I think about painting again, I see master works like these and consider just snapping my brushes in half instead. Are you really human or do you have some paint master alien hybrid DNA spliced in? ;) Lovely work - as usual. visiting your site to look at your paint jobs is like going to an art gallery, just more entertaining. :D

"I'm not a terrorist. I'm a patriot. And resistance is not terrorism." ―Saw Gerrera
Saw Gerrera was a human male Onderonian resistance fighter who, as a leading member of the Onderon rebels, fought against the Confederacy of Independent Systems on Onderon during the Clone Wars. He and his sister, Steela Gerrera, were instrumental in the rebel liberation of their homeworld during the Onderonian Civil War. He later became a key member in the fight against the Galactic Empire and the formation of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. His tactics against the Empire led him to be seen as an extremist, one whose notoriety was recognized by the Empire and, many years later, the New Republic. - from SW Wikia
(http://www.adpublishing.de/Rogue_One_Saw_Gerrera.jpg)
Not only is Saw Gerrera one of my favourite R1 characters, the Shapeways mini by Skull Forge is just breathtaking good.
A true masterpiece that shows what can be accomplished today. Below is a group shot with other R1 chars.

Thanks again folks!
Just out of interest, how tall is he to the top of his head?
Only 40mm! ;)
Considering that Saw is 1,80m tall, that results in a whopping 1:45 scale.

:-* :-* :-* I love all the rogue one minis!!!.
I hope eventually there is official ones made of them. I’m still on the fence with legion but the option to take rebel scum like this would push me straight over the edge. Nice brushwork!
-
To be honest I am a bit reluctant as official models are concerned.
Most FFG minis are IMO not as good as the aftermarket ones.
Just check Leia, Han or General Veers... ::) :?
And you can always use the Shapeways models as stand ins or squad leaders...

Swamp troopers were a type of Imperial Army soldier that existed outside the Stormtrooper Corps. Standard troopers were denoted by a red bicep band. Medics fought alongside standard swamp troopers, and they could be identified by a white bicep band on their right arm.
Swamp troopers were equipped with helmets similar to those of Imperial officers' battle armor. Due to the often hazardous nature of the various worlds the Empire found itself subjugating, troopers wore goggles for eye protection and oxygen masks to filter out potentially deadly substances. Swamp troopers wielded E-10 blaster rifles, E-11 blaster rifles, E-22 blaster rifles and EC-17 hold-out blasters.

Swamp or Mud Trooper from Skull Forge!
The mini is as good as all sculpts from Skull Forge, unfortunately my primer was cracking on some places.
The result was the extra dirty dried swamp look. I decided to keep it, 2 other minis are in their Aceton bath atm...

Stunning brushwork.

What brand of primer do you use?
Also do you prime in black, white or gray?
Thanks in advance for you answers.

Nice! Really like the stuff you don't see in the films)/games, your paintwork is makes them look so slick! :-*
-
Thanks again folks!
… Speaking of primer and the problem you had.

Thanks in advance for you answers.
I mostly use Citadel Chaos Black as primer.
On the above mini I wanted to be smart and applied an too old can of US Drab or so from Flames of War.
The 2 Colours does not work together and cracks showed up.
In addition to the small printlines here and there I had to remove the Colour from 2 minis…
They are now perfectly primed in the paint queue! :)

And another Swamp Trooper:

Oh - before anyone is asking: the gun magazine on Baze heavy blaster is a conversion, the ammo feed was really nice but broke away, it was sturdy enough I was just a bit clumsy...
So a GW part has to stand in, still looks heavy enough to me. ;)
-
Great painting on the new Rouge 1 figures.
Really love them. :-*

All of them are impressive. What a lovely work!

The consistency of your standard of brushwork is amazing.
Lovely work all round.

I really like the understated bases too, they look great.

Some really nice additions you have added there!

A Heer 46 Ewok! Nice addition to every Endor table. Means a lot from me since I really dislike Ewoks... ;)
And some terrain!
I recently discovered Corvus games Terrain, the company mostly offers stl files, but print some physical models.
The Pilgrim City terrain interested me and I ordered some! So sooner or later I can play on a Jedha City table!
Corvus Games Terrain Pilgrim City (Jedha) building, right out of the printer, minimal priming and an easy paintjob.
The terrain is HIGHLY recommended!

As does the building.
Nice weathering.

I was having a good butchers at that range of buildings before and all I can say is it is a good thing that I do not have a printer, or I would be awash with unpainted scenery.

Your stuff is beautiful!

Great additions to your collection.
Love the Ewok.

Lovely building, great ewok!

That is an Ewok/Woolie lovechild (rule 34 in operation).

Thanks Agis.

I have a bunch of those building. Cheap! and nice.
-
Agis, how do you do it?!?!?
I have tried and tried with many of the same minis but I cannot even get the same solid opaque coats, much less the shading and highlighting and detailing.
Consistently amazing work.

Stunning brushwork!
I am late to Star Wars Legion but love everything I have seen so far.
You painting as always looks great :-*

The funny thing is that I do not recognise these fellas, but I have seen all of the films.
All I do know is that these fellas look so good with your paintjob that I know that I want some.

So would Swamp troopers have a white die for defense
in the Star Wars Legion game? ;)

So would Swamp troopers have a white die for defense in the Star Wars Legion game? ;)
Since I have not played the game so far, I have no idea was this means... ;)
-
I prepped the first of one of these figures yesterday (purchased as a painting “for fun” project) and cleaning the mould lines off the soft board game plastic was so laborious that it has already made me realise I will probably never collect this game as a consequence. :?
Kudos to you for not giving into the temptation to drop them for something far more malleable. :D
-
Who makes that mini? Which game?
-
Agis,
In SW Legion you have different color of dice you roll
for defense and attacking.
White defense dice are the worst to roll.
Small chance to save your figures from taking kills to them.
Rebel units mostly roll white dice. :o

Game? Whatever you want... ;)

On that note, do you have a color pallet for K-2SO?

I am afraid not really...
I am using mostly vallejo and citadel colours these days.
On the swamp trooper i used andrea colours that are so old that the name is unreadable!
:(
Plates are german uniform (exact name unknown)
The unform is a vallejo dark grey ehich i also used on k-2

Once? Heretic! ;)
Even after only seeing it once, I feel like I've seen it a million times as 95% of the plot is straight from the original trilogy ;D

Another mini from SOLO - the Mimbanese Resistance.
The Mimbanese were one of several sentient species native to the planet Mimban. The Mimbanese had the unsettling ability to disappear in the mud and murk of their homeworld.
During the Clone Wars, the Mimbanese allied themselves with the Grand Army of the Galactic Republic. Under the leadership of tribal leader Iasento, the Mimbanese organized a Liberation Army. Junior Representative Jar Jar Binks was sent to help the 224th and 501st interface with the Mimbanese. With aid from the Mud Jumpers of the Grand Army's 224th division, the Mimbanese fought the Confederacy of Independent Systems. They were successful in repelling the Separatists from Mimban.
Following the Republic's transformation into the Galactic Empire, the Mimbanese fought the 224th's Swamp troopers.
The above mini is Iasento, he was a male Mimbanese who served as a member of the Mimbanese Liberation Army during the reign of the Galactic Empire. Prior to the Clone Wars, Iasento was the leader of a Mimbanese tribe in the Nanth flatlands. When Mimban came to the attention of the Separatists during the war, the Galactic Republic's 224th Division, the Mud Jumpers, armed and trained Iasento and his men.

Where does the history/back story come from
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Mimban
"The planet appeared in the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story.[8] For a time in the movie's production, it was considered to make Mimban a planet with an aquatic, swamp-like surface.[18] According to script writer Jon Kasdan, the film's crew wanted to evoke Stanley Kubrick's 1957 anti-war film Paths of Glory and put Han Solo into the most hellish-possible war environment.[19]"
and from https://www.starwars.com/databank/mimbanese
"Red-skinned subterranean dwellers, the Mimbanese once fought alongside Republic clone troopers against the Separatists. Now, they are battling for their planet’s future against the Empire. Imperial mining operations have devastated Mimban’s climate and cleared vast stretches of rain forest, leaving muddy plains behind. The Mimbanese use the mud as camouflage, ambushing Imperial soldiers with improvised and scavenged weapons."

The alternate Vader mini from Skullforge - "King of Ashes".
IMO a a better miniature that the FFG one.
The sculpt represent a younger Vader, maybe some months after Ep. III, not fully suited to his new cyborg legs and arms and still as overconfident as Anakin.

Five Phase I trooper right out of the Clone Wars box.
Unfortunately the miniatures are NOT as good as the B1 droids, softer plastic, less details, grotesquely oversized weapons, bulky heads, feet and hands and horrible very hard to remove mold lines.
:( :( :(
A real shame and missed opportunity IMO. They look somehow good anyway but could be so much better...
Some comparison pictures are below.
From left to right: Mels Phase II, FFG Phase I, Mels Phase II, FFG Phase I. Mels are way more realistic. But in the end it boils down to personal taste!

Jordans Obi, FFG Phase I and Mels Obi. Jordans mini work together with FFG, Mels not.

Ahem, all Blasters, or?

Lovely work as usual. I was only looking at CIS stuff anyway, so knowing the B1 troopers are well-made and an easy paint job is good news.
-
Ahem, all Blasters, or?

Well you cant really do that.
Need to have measurements of the droids and their gear IRL.
Then do the same with the troopers. That DC-15 for example is really long. How tall is that trooper?
That's alot of weapons to meas5.

The Mandalorian is a live-action Star Wars television series developed by Lucasfilm. The series takes place about five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.
IMO the best live action production after Rogue One since the original Trilogy. Soon some very decent sculpts were available, I chose Jordan’s and was - as always - not disappointed.

I have to say I am conflicted about your work. On the one hand you have done a amazing job painting the miniatures, they are truly beautiful. On the other hand I really find the thick bases off-putting. o_o
-
You can blame FFG for that, they use stupidly thick bases that I initially hated, but once you have a completed force with sand and grass tufts out on the tabletop it's not too bad, I've updated my feelings from "hated" to "miffed". I actually dislike the bases Legion uses more than I dislike the the movement widgets or custom dice or slightly larger scale, I wish FFG had used standard 25mm/40mm etc bases instead of proprietary ones.
Cracking paintjobs as always, however. I'm slowly transferring my SW collection from WotC/IA to Legion, slowly enough that I haven't bought any of the any aftermarket figs yet, but it's nice to know how well they paint up if I ever do
-
Yet again, great painting!
-
Lovely painting as always Agis - you really bring the miniatures alive.
-
Thanks folks!
On the other hand I really find the thick bases off-putting. o_o
I agree the thick FFG bases are BAD!
I prefer bases like this:
But for Legion you get these:
And for vehicles you get the custom shaped ones…
So in the end I decided to give them standard GW 25mm bases. Not the best but a compromise.

Bang on painting!
-
I just now re-discovered this thread and it isn an absolutely joy to scroll through!
Congratulations to you for creating such fantastic miniatures!
This thread also made me consider buying some Legion figures. That ruleset is of absolutely no interest to me (I am not going to buy another medium army-sized game) but I recently read that with Frostgrave 2nd Edition there might be "Space Grave" coming as well. So, there would be the excuse for a Star Wars Fan to get some individual minis...
... I would base them on the usual round 25mm instead of the Legion Bases and even here your thread has been a tremendous help! Thanks!
-
I'm buying Legion for small skirmish, currently thinking Ffol and the star wars mod for Ranger of Shadowdeep.

Please enlighten me, what is "the Rangers of Shadow Deep mod"???
Apparently it is a fanmade rules-mod which allows you to play some SW themed scenarios with the rules of Rangers of Shadow Deep (A cooperative and solo game based on the Frostgrave ruleset which is also by Joseph A. McCullough).
I also do not wish to derail this thread, but if one question is allowed: I would also want to know whether there is a link because I do not use FB but would absolutely like test those rules!
Back on topic:
Agis, did you ever have problems fitting the Legion minis on 25mm round bases?
I am also considering getting some Star Wars minis just for painting and maybe some good humored skirmish or narrative game (see above) and would definitely base on 25mm as almost every other miniature in my collection is based like that (no interest in Legion Tournaments, so no problem there).
PS: After reading your post in the FFG Forum I went to my box of bases and found the exact "round, no slot" you use - guess I'll buy some Stormtroopers and a walking carpet :)
-
So far all minis fitted easily on 25mm bases. :)
-
Many thanks for the info! :)

I thought the Star Wars Mod was hosted on the Rangers Of Shadow Deep Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/199819667485240/about/) page, but it wasn't. I dug up the post from the author of the fan mod, Manuel Llano. All credit to him for the mod.

“The cavalry has arrived!” - Clone Force 99, the bad batch is in my hands. I received the incredible good minis from Skull forge and started ASAP painting. Hunter and Wrecker are finished.
Clone Force 99, informally known as the Bad Batch, was a clone commando squad led by Captain Rex during the Clone Wars. The squad was formed from four Clone Troopers who were born with "desirable" genetic mutations that set them apart physically and mentally from their standard counterparts. These mutations were enhanced to make them into superior soldiers on the battlefield.
The commando unit was named after 99, a malformed maintenance clone in honor for his bravery and sacrifice in the defense of Kamino from a Separatist invasion.
The motley crew that makes up Clone Force 99 boasts an astounding 100 percent success rate and skills unseen in any other clone troopers. Adept at working together, Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, and Crosshair use their unique talents and specialized physiology to execute extraordinary solutions on the battlefield.
I liked CF 99 immediately, so I had to get the excellent after market minis. I even created some Zombicide Invader cards (they are in 150 dpi, so just save and print them if you like) to use them against some aliens from a Confederacy research station... Use the starting eqipment from the Zombicide - Dark Side box!

Tech and Crosshair
(http://www.adpublishing.de/assets/images/CF_99_Tech_Invader_Card_150.jpg)
Tech
He may not look like a typical clone, but Tech is a valuable soldier in the Republic army. The result of genetic manipulation like the rest of his special unit, Clone Force 99 (or the Bad Batch), Tech's aptitude for science and technology are unmatched by man or machine.
Crosshair
When you have to hit a precise target from 10 klicks, Crosshair's your man.
Cold, quick, and calculating, Crosshair is the kind of no-nonsense warrior who detests working with "regs"; or normal clones, and isn't afraid to mouth off about it.
A member of the special unit Clone Force 99, also called the Bad Batch, Crosshair is gifted with a sniper blaster.
I am very happy with the squad, I expect some nice Zombicide Invader games with them!

And another mini also sneaked in my painting queue - a nice SWTOR Sith Trooper! I parked a pic of him in my Legion section. As soon as I got more I will create a suitable subsection.
I liked SWTOR and also the look of the Sith military, so when I found a freelance sculptor who was creating STL files for SWTOR infantry minis I could not resist and got me some. Below is my 1st test mini.

Clone Captain Rex
Clone Captain Rex viewed military service as an honor, and his loyalty to the Republic and his Jedi Generals was absolute. Rex honed the use of twin blaster pistols into an art form, leading his fellow clones to victory on countless battlefields across the galaxy.
I really like the Rex expansion, 3 head options and his typical 2 blaster pistol pose. As with CF-99 I could not resist and created a Zombicide Invader card for him.
And a group shot with CF-99 and his friend and Jedi Leader Ashoka Tano. Ashoka is from Imperial Assault. The mini is slightly smaller in scale but fits IMO OK, since she is supposed to be a bit shorter than the clones.
more as ever on my site: http://www.adpublishing.de/html/clone_wars1.html

Compliments on your continually great work! I agree about Ashoka and the scale difference, I think it works a treat.

Ashoka is sized perfectly. Great job as always, Agis!

Count Dooku
"The best of all would be the strongest student, yes? Wisest? Most learned in the ways of the Force? Best of all, Dooku would be! Our greatest student! Our greatest failure."
―Yoda
A nice miniature, true to the Legion style of bigger than realistic feet, hands and head. The mini is even bigger than the B2 droids, but according to starwars.fandom.com this should be OK, since the good Count (Christopher Lee) was 1,93m.
"With these new battle droids we built for you, you'll have the finest army in the galaxy."
―Foreman Wat Tambor, to Count Dooku
(http://www.adpublishing.de/assets/images/B2_Battle_Droids_Yirt.jpg)
Incredible good minis again, very true to Episode 2 and 3. Again super crisp plastic and an absolute joy to build and paint. Since I always liked the retro art-deco look of the B2 I painted not only one but two squads of these beauties!
more on my site: http://www.adpublishing.de/html/clone_wars1.html

Beautiful brushwork. I hope mine look as good when I paint them!
I’ve just picked up the new B2 Droids for Star Wars Legion. I love what FFG are putting out.
I’m trying to get at least one of everything :D
-
(http://www.adpublishing.de/assets/images/SWL_Clone_AT-RT_group.jpg)
While clone troopers were best deployed in large numbers, articulated battlefield armor such as this Republic scout walker transformed a single clone trooper into a formidable anti-infantry unit. Designed primarily as a reconnaissance vehicle, this two-legged open-cockpit walker is nonetheless swift and heavily armed, letting a clone trooper cut through battle droids easily. It was employed in such campaigns as the Battle of Kashyyyk. It was the precursor to the All Terrain Scout Transport seen during the Galactic Civil War.
FFG already announced their model, but I wanted mine now. Since I had a couple of walkers from the Legion core box and I do not like them for Rebels the choice was simple, get a Clone Rider from Shapeways and all is fine. I went for one of the great Mel designs, but as always the Shapeways printing material was not as good as any mini from FFG. Otherwise it fitted perfectly, only the brittle blaster broke off during painting, I replaced it with a FFG arm.

I have got most of the stuff I want, missing Phase II Clones, the Clone Upgrade pack and Captain Rex, but have most of the stuff for the other three factions. I would love to get the Clone Force 99 stuff, I take it that they are from Skullforge? If I do (I want some other models as well from there) I will absolutely use your fantastic miniatures as role model! <3

Big thanks Galland!
CF 99 is indeed from Skullforgestudios:

Love this thread.
Would you say there's a big difference between the standard 'fine' and the more expensive 'ultra-fine' prints from Skull Forge?

Yes, but even at ultra-fine you can get minis where the print lines are visible.
In addition the material is very brittle.

How do the different print materials stand up to normal game play?
I’m happy to get the 3D prints but I am clumsy ::)

Thanks. I love the Legion stuff, but their Han Solo is in Endor kit and I like the 'classic' Han Solo from Skull Forge! £20 for a single min is something I have to think long and hard about!

IIRC the Imperial Assault version of Han is pretty close to scale with Legion figures, and is in his smuggler's kit. Mine are packed away right now so I can't take a pic for you. He is one of the reasons I became disillusioned with that line. Too much scale variance.
It is a cheaper option for sure.
Agis, good stuff as always. Particularly fond of the Bad Batch.

I'll have a look, thanks. It doesn't help that the Legion mins have such tall bases! I might be able to build an IA Han up with something.

IMO Han works 100%, see here:

Han (IA), Rex (Legion), Chewie (IA) - works!
Same here:

Hera (IA), Rex (Legion), Chopper (IA) - works!

It will NOT work - at all!
Just one example: While building Hunter of CF-99 his knife broke away like nothing. (And I am not clumsy) ;)

Many thanks Agis!

212th Attack Battalion Clone Paratrooper
(http://www.adpublishing.de/assets/images/Clone_paratrooper_1.jpg)
A very simple conversion, I used the body with the fitting right shoulder pad of the FFG Phase I Clone Troopers Upgrade Expansion and a Skull Forge Evictor head - done!
"Clone paratroopers were specialized clone troopers trained for airborne operations in the Grand Army of the Republic. In the waning days of the Clone Wars, the paratroopers of the 212th Attack Battalion served as front line assault units in the Battle of Utapau. Following a failed attempt to execute Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi as a result of Order 66, Clone Commander CC-2224 "Cody" ordered a group of paratroopers to search for the missing body of their former general. The troopers failed as Kenobi survived and escaped from the planet."

Cracking additions!
Love the brushwork n the Clones.

I know that you have been playing with the Contrast paints and have some great results with the black.
Did you use the white on these at all by any chance?

Loverly yet again! :-*

Thanks folks.
And yes the Clones are done with Contrast paint, to be more precise, Apothecary white over the greyskull primer.
Then a pure white drybrush, the orange, the black and some white edge highlights!

I suspected as much.
I have the white but am yet to give it a go.
Stormtroopers would make the perfect victims.

CC-2224, nicknamed "Cody," was a clone trooper officer who served as the Clone Marshal Commander of the renowned 7th Sky Corps and personally led the sub-unit 212th Attack Battalion during the Clone Wars.
A natural and practical leader, Commander Cody was the second-in-command of Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi, to whom he was particularly loyal.
A capable strategist and an exceptional soldier on the battlefield, his qualities earned him the respect of both his Jedi officer and his fellow clone troopers.

Clone Para Leader, Trooper and Heavy from Dark Fire Designs.

Honestly, I don't know how you keep doing this, Agis. Perfection and personality both.
Do you use a magnifier when you paint?
-
Brilliant, Agis!
After catching up with Barbarians (not as bad as everyone says) and Discovery, we had a great time tonight watching the start of season 2. Again so many good ideas for small scale tabletop skirmish. We had a blast!
Do you plan to use these nice minis to play something or will they just be part of your ever growing collection of awesomeness?
-

As far as the magnifiers are concerned, no.
BUT - my glasses far close up viewing are getting stronger and stronger (I turn 60 in December), so in a way they are my magnifying glasses. ;)
-

I might end up doing some Zombicide cards and play with them.
I am also working on some stats for my ViDe system, and there is always Legion to try.

Super painting on your newest Star Wars figures.
If you would please,
tell us where the Cara figure came from,
I looked on Shapeways and could not find her, thanks

Lovely work.
My personal favourite is the Twi'lek's head ... The blue & white really came out great
Must scratchbuild some twi'leks for 15/18mm unless I find a suitable 3D model
( and eventually buy a 3D printer ).

Whenever something, for example watching the Mandalorian, makes me want to look at some StarWars ART I find myself clicking at this thread. Your work presented here is just marvelous!
I can only concur to what was said before: I don´t know how you do it, being so productive and reaching such heights!
While I have countless projects in the pipeline, your thread never fails to make me want to paint up my Imperial Assault miniatures. Well, maybe I will find time for a few during this lockdown.
In short: Love your thread, always a joy to look at / read through.

I already blamed you for making me buy SW Legion, Agis. Is it now that you are pushing me towards a certain print service to buy more before I have painted the other? lol
If there is any painter who deserved to receive miniatures for free from the makers due to his "Advertising" then it is you!

Big thanks folks, comments like your above are highly appreciated!

I agree! I am still resisting Star Wars Legion, but Agis your painting is fantastic, and after looking at those websites you linked too I am starting to think that a couple of Jawas could be fun and would definitely not set me on a slippery slope to buying more Star Wars stuff...

That is some... unexpected... stuff.
A little late for Halloween but those could probably be used for a small one shot horror adventure / scenario in a galaxy far far away...

Many people asked me how I painted the Zombie Trooper so fast!
Normally I am not doing any painting guides (since I do NOT have any unique techniques to share), but painting two more and taking some WIP pics wasn’t that bad...
You can see the Guide at the bottom of my Zombicide Invader section! -> http://www.adpublishing.de/html/invader.html

They look awesome and the Moff is an ace sculpt. I have started to test the print services you recommend, and it’s great (much better in many cases than FFG).
Ive found services for Skullforge and seb, but not for Mel Miniatures, though. Is there some secret knowledge involved for the latter?
-
Mel is (as far as K know) only at Shapeways, which is not recommended...
-
Yes, I also made my experiences now with them and the material (and the prices!) are not very good and very very brittle to a degree that I would not like to use the models for gaming.
Thanks!

New year, new project! I am planning to do both Rebel and Imperial forces for Hoth.
I already painted a Hoth Snow Trooper. Next was a Rebel Veteran and Luke on Hoth! Luke is a really nice mini, very well researched and flawlessly sculpted (as you can expect from Skullforge). I only changed the saber blade...

Luke, Han and Leia in their Hoth outfits. For Han I chose the navy blue jacket. It was the color of the original Kenner figure, the Lucasfilm archive jacket looks more brown, but for me the blue was always cooler looking.

Another great and characterful Skullforge sculpt - Weeteef Cyu-Bee - a male Talpini who served as one of the most destructive members of Saw Gerrera's Partisans on Jedha. The diminutive Talpini could hide easily among the taller beings that congregated in the Holy city. A sniper, Cyu-Bee specialized in explosives, and built the sticky bombs used against the Imperial patrols of AT-ST walkers and TX-225 assault tanks.

Just need to find someone in the UK who can print those 3d files to the Imperial Assault scale rather than the larger Legion scale.

It's a Chrome thing with the hosting website and their security certificate, seen it happen with a couple other websites too where the linked images don't work. If you go to Agis' main website in Chrome you'll see a "not secure" error in the address bar, whatever security vertificate issue is causing that error is keeping Chrome from direct linking the images

Echo, as a genetic clone of Jango Fett, was a human male with black hair, brown eyes, and tan skin. Although all normal clones of Jango Fett were physically identical to the bounty hunter, Echo was slightly skinnier than his fellow Squad teammates, but still stood at the same 1.83 meters in height. Following his Separatist capture, Echo's skin became pale during his time in stasis and his body was outfitted with numerous cybernetic implants — including a socket-arm in place of his right hand—but he became weak and emaciated. He had also lost his hair.

The Ninth Sister, formerly known as Masana Tide, was a female Dowutin who once served the Jedi Order before joining the Galactic Empire as a member of the Inquisitorius. In the early days of the Imperial Era, the Ninth Sister accompanied Darth Vader, the Sixth Brother, and the Tenth Brother to the planet Mon Cala to hunt the Jedi Padawan Ferren Barr. Later, she accompanied the Second Sister to hunt down the fugitive Padawan Cal Kestis. However, Kestis defeated her in a duel on Kashyyyk.

The 9th sister from Skullforge. Another flawless sculpt that really catches the brutal physical presence of the sister. I really liked the character in Fallen Order and the comics, finally not another thin human Sith, but a hulking female presence. Finally something very unique and a good contrats to the Second Sister! I took extra care with this miniature, the base is made from milliput using a Greenstuff roller.

More wonderful additions to your stunning SW collection since I last passed this way!

The info on their background is certainly intriguing and tempts me to delve into SW fiction again.

1st squad of Rebels painted in suitable winter colour by Scarsminiaturemadness.nl
Great work by them again. I just added some extra snow texture and applied some Rebel transfers from Brent Dietrich (https://littlemetalspaceships.com/)! My Skullforge Han, Leia heroes are well fitting!

They look great!

Nice painting!
I started with Star Wars Legion, but sold it, found it difficult to clean the flash on the soft plastic miniatures, loved them to be in hard plastic.

Just finished this wondeful sculpt! A great joy to paint.

Are the clone wars miniatures hard plastic?

Are the clone wars miniatures hard plastic?
Most of it, the core box has softer Clones and Obi Wan, all the rest from that on is hard plastic IIRC.
And really good one!
The Droids for example are just GREAT:

Had a look at the entire thread. Awesome painting!
I'm a big Star Wars fan but until now had resisted the urge to buy the miniatures (did paint a bunch of Void Viridian assault marines as Imperial stormtroopers in the past), but this thread pushed me over the edge: I've bought the Imperial Assault core box from someone's pile of shame.

Proto Stormtrooper - During the Bad Batch (S01E14) the old Ralph McQuarrie Stormtrooper concept design was canonised, I really loved that respectful reference to the old master! As soon as I saw these designs as 3d prints, I just had to get them...
Skullforge designs at its best, clean simple and true to the screen.
General Vers by FFG, compared to after market 3D printed minis a mediocre design with an awkward pose...

After the latest Boba Fett Episode, I had to finish the Mandalorian Armorer and while at it, Migs Mayfeld was also painted.
"The Armorer" was a female Mandalorian Armorer from Mandalore who led the Tribe during the New Republic Era. Following the Galactic Empire's Great Purge of Mandalore, she resided with the Tribe in a covert on the planet Nevarro, where she forged armor and weapons for her fellow Mandalorians. Around 9 ABY, she forged a new set of armor for the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin using the beskar he provided. During this time, she stopped an altercation between Djarin and another member of the Tribe, Paz Vizsla, when she reminded them of the way of life they were supposed to follow.
Migs Mayfeld was a human male mercenary who was a former sharpshooter in the Imperial Army. During the time of the New Republic, Mayfeld was recruited by the criminal Ranzar Malk to lead a team to rescue the prisoner Qin from Bothan-5, a New Republic Correctional Transport. Malk, Mayfeld, and the team intended to betray the Mandalorian Din Djarin, who had also been hired for use of his ship, the Razor Crest.

The Bad Batch (S01E14) reintroduces also the fan-favorite Clone Commandos.
Clone commandos (CC), also known as Republic commandos while serving under the Galactic Republic, were elite clone troopers that served in the Grand Army of the Republic's Special Operations Brigade during the Clone Wars. A result of the Kaminoans' genetic experimentation with the Jango Fett template, they were special forces soldiers noted for their training and elite status in the clone army.

Tam Posla was a Milvaynian human male from the planet Milvayne. Formally representing the Milvayne Authority, he became Milvayne's most celebrated lawman. At some point, he investigated a rash of crimes committed by Doctor Cornelius Evazan and Ponda Baba. Though taken off the case by his superior officer, Posla voyaged well beyond his jurisdiction and, determined to bring the criminals to justice, he became a bounty hunter.
Posla was unable to catch the culprits on Jedha and took jobs to pay for his hunt for them.

After all the hektik in the Boba finale it was time for something more relaxed...
the FROG Lady
(https://adpublishing.de/assets/images/Skullforge_MAndo_S2_Frop_Lady_2.jpg)
Frog Lady talked to Peli Motto about getting an escort from the planet Tatooine to the estuary moon of Trask because she had eggs that needed to be fertilized by her husband. Peli enlisted Mandalorian Din Djarin to escort her. Djarin helped but asked for information regarding other Mandalorians seen on Trask. Frog Lady was an excellent shot wielding a Shard-3A holdout cluster blaster and a skilled droidsmith.

You have really brought her to life. You always paint very well but this is one of my favorites.
-
Lovely work on the face, but a superb effort with the eggs in the tank. That's a really difficult and subtle effect to pull off there - translucent eggs floating in a translucent liquid - but you've smashed that.
-
Lovely work on the face
Exactly! I second that. I reckon the sad expression only appeared after she'd realized a certain decrease in numbers of her eggs… lol

Awesome painting!

Stunning wor!
As usual, Agis.

I finally painted some more Star Wars.
Omega was an unmodified, yet enhanced human female clone created from the genetic template of the Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett who lived in the years following the Clone Wars. Originally created as a pure genetic replication of Fett, she was a medical assistant to Nala Se and spent her days working in Tipoca City on the clone homeworld of Kamino. When the war ended, she took an interest in Clone Force 99, who had returned from a battle on Kaller. Later, when Wilhuff Tarkin arrived on Kamino to assess the clone troopers, she joined Clone Force 99 and escaped Kamino.
Cid was a Trandoshan female residing on Ord Mantell, where she ran a cantina called Cid's Parlor. Before Order 66, she served as an informant for the Jedi, and it was in that capacity that the ARC trooper Echo learned her name and where to find her. After Clone Force 99 defected from the Galactic Empire, they visited Cid to learn the identity of Fennec Shand, a bounty hunter who had accosted them on Pantora and attempted to kidnap the child clone Omega. In order to pay for the information, Cid had the Bad Batch rescue Muchi, a young rancor stolen by Zygerrian slavers. After the successful job, Cid paid Hunter thirty percent of the profits and revealed that Shand was an up-and-coming bounty hunter, whom Cid's sources in the Bounty Hunters' Guild stated had been hired for the job on a direct commission.

and the BIG wookie...
Krrsantan, also known as Black Krrsantan, and nicknamed "Santy," "BK," and "Black K" by Doctor Aphra and "Santo" by Garsa Fwip and Boba Fett, was a male Wookiee bounty hunter whose career spanned from during the rule of the Galactic Empire into the era of the New Republic. Originally escaping his homeworld Kashyyyk and trained by the infamous Xonti Brothers as a gladiator, Krrsantan later became a ferocious bounty hunter. He was regularly hired by the crime lord Jabba the Hutt.
Following the death of Jabba and the end of the war, Krrsantan was employed by that late Hutt's cousins, brother and sister crime lords known as the Twins. Their cousin's criminal empire had been taken over by the former bounty hunter Boba Fett, and the Hutts sought Krrsantan's services in wresting control away from the self-appointed Daimyo. Krrsantan attempted to assassinate Fett, but was captured by his forces. Shortly after, the Twins promised to leave Tatooine, and Krrsantan was eventually employed by Boba Fett. A part of Fett's forces, he participated in a battle against the Pyke Syndicate, which resulted in the Fett gotra's victory.

Wow as ever. Are these STLs?

Brillant!
I’ve got Krrstan, but mine doesn’t look half as good as yours. I was really impressed with the sculpt, though, and found it better than the Legion wookies.

Shatterpoint - Star Wars: Shatterpoint, a miniatures skirmish game released in June 2023. It uses similar rules as Marvel Crisis Protocol and also the same mini "scale/ size" and style.
You only need 2x 4 minis to play, which is much to my liking. The 1st mini I painted was Captain Rex a character from the Clone Wars series that I really like!
A comparison with a Legion sized Rex. Head, hands and feet are a bit more realistic sized with the Shatterpoint mini, on the actual table they look very similar, in fact I like the Legion look a bit more...

Lovely paint job as always 8)
Like you I think I prefer the Legion version
-
I've converted a few legion figs to 40mm (1/43) a while ago when I oddly became interested in that scale. I also find the shatterpoint figures a bit posey/ overly dramatic but I do like the proportions.
The love-child of these two figures (legion styling/ shatterpoint proportions) would be my ideal :)
