Title: Pulp Terrain
Post by: blessed knight on February 23, 2007, 08:47:54 AM
I've just started making terrain on my computer at work.

Can anybody suggest any links to 20's / 30's style wall paper?
(I want to make the print as authentic as possible)

thanks

BK

Oooh, nice work Mr Knight!
Are these to be printed and laminated onto foam-card?

Google found me these:

printed onto inkjet card then assembled using my pack design knowhow.
(the main box is an 0427 style box without the lid.)

the room is 4" square, and once enough are done they will be made into a PDF document.

4" seems a little fiddly! Is that due to the size of inkjet card?

yep its all down to using A4 inkjet card.
Printed corridors etc should help expand the designs but its only WIP at the moment.
(and free thanks to works printers.)

not sure if A3 Inkjet card is available.

Here are some more room inserts for the current box:

Looking good!

How thick it this card? I'm worried they will turn out a bit flimsy.... :?

They don't have to be folded from one bit of card: If you expanded the floor to be full A4 size and printed the walls on a different sheet they could just be glued to black foam-core to make more sturdy (and larger) rooms quite easily!

 :)

Its not that thick. but once assembled and stuck together using 2 sided tape its a lot more solid.

The room design is then dropped into the box.

the box i've made is a Fefco 0427 style box minus the lid.
http://www.soldana.dk/fefco_0427.htm

this is what is limiting the size so far, as i wanted to build something that could be put together pretty quickly, without the cost of glues and foam card.

i'll do a similar layout for sticking on Foamcard too as the artwork is all set up.

Are you planning on selling the PDF when you have it all completed?

Not planned on it. It'll be very basic. (no scenery) but i'm hoping to expand it once i've got the layouts nailed.

This all started because i wanted to do a Zepellin layout but didn't have the funds for foam card etc.

brings a whole new meaning to the term Box Room eh?

Send me a PM if you're interested in sharing with the world. It would be a great download for the Pulp Heroes site. Even basic gives pulp games a quick and easy way to do rooms for their .45 Adventure games.

More zepp.

1 carpet, 1 small window section and 2 large window sections make a complete viewing area.

very impressive!

if the rest gets as good as that "viewing area" that zeppelin should look great!

The viewing area is finally finished.

(the previously posted PDF ended up a meagre 182MB) :o

I've managed to get it down to 300K for the 4 pages needed.

I'm waiting for my card order to arrive.(due Tuesday) I'll build a test piece to make sure it works OK/take photos, then i can finish the beastie off.

i'm planning the following other projects too:

Caves.
Tomb complex.
Building plans.

This looks a terrific project! I hope you don't mind if I use some bits for a pulp SF spaceliner interior - or, if you happen to feel like doing a rocketship cabin...

Thanks :)

I don't mind how you use this.

PDF's will be up shortly with any luck.

using the viewing area wall as a template, I've tried a cave test piece.
Its been assembled without any glue / tape.

Adding 2 sided tape will make a big difference in holding these pieces together.

Using more tape to connect the sections, the cockpit / crew area is assembled:

Getting his costume completely wrong, Errol Flynn reprises his role as Robin Hood…

Following the incident Robin stated;

On my way to Kashmir I suffered a communication breakdown which left me dazed and confused. As I attempted to bring it on home I crashed into a black mountain side, down by the seaside, over the hills and far away. Its nobody's fault but mine and I feel sick again. I could easily have been on a stairway to heaven, but thats the way it turned out. I don't want to ramble on but hey, hey, what can I do?

but it's been posted and there is no use quibbling over What Is And What Should Never Be.

i'll stop now
