Has anyone got a copy or seen any details of Great Escape Games 1914 Rules. They seem an interesting scale of game, but there isn't much info on their website detailing what the game is like.

I have ordered a copy so I could give you a review when I get it.
-
That would be great.
Doesn't seem to be much out there about them.
-
Also interested so thanks in advance.

They are fast play, based loosely on their WW2 set Iron Cross.
-
Let’s hope they last longer / get more support / traction than Iron Cross which GEG seem to have pretty much left to wither on the vine. Presumably because it didn’t take off in the way they had hoped :?

We shalll see. It’s a pretty niche market. Small scale WWI.
They are quite late to the party with figures with Pendraken and Kallistra already having big ranges in 10/12mm plus other manufacturers.
I’m likely to get the rules, as they aren’t expensive, and while I like GWSH, we don’t play often enough for the depth / complexity of the rules.

I was wondering if they would work for WW1 Eastern Front. Thought about doing it in 28mm ::)
-
I'd expect they would work for the Eastern Front, it was similar to the 1914 fighting for much of the war.
-
I would be cautious about interpreting later Eastern Front tactics as being similar to 1914 Western Front. There were much heavier barrages used later in the war to achieve breakthroughs, which could then be exploited with more movement than seen on the Western Front later war. The infantry tactics developed and executed under Brusilov were very different from 1914. The Battle of Riga (1917) was a prelude for the German Spring offensives in 1918, enabling Bruchmüller to further his reputation for artillery tactics before being transferred to the Western Front in preparation for Operation Michael.

I tried to ask about these rules at Salute. I got ignored.... >:(
Shame as the game looked good and the period is one that appeals.

The rules are well produced and clearly written but I don't feel I can give them a fair review without playing them. Currently I don't have the figures or an opponent to try them out with. You also need tokens and markers which need to be purchased if you don't make your own.
The new range of 12mm figures look great in the photographs. Sorry I can't be more help. In the absence of proper review by someone, if this is your area interest then I feel this new venture ought to be supported. 12mm figures are a relatively low investment and if you don't like the rules there are plenty of others that deal with WW1 at this level.

Yeah there are a couple of issues with Iron Cross IMO (not unfixable ones IMO) but it was a great attempt at a simple systems which works for WW2. But the audience for that period seems to want complexity/detail in rules and especially stat lines.
