Title: Trows (and trolls)
Post by: Whitehorn on June 15, 2018, 03:13:03 PM
A new "race" I've started for Creatures Underground - Trows. Small trollfolk, lead my slightly less small trollfolk.

Here's the queen.

It's a mixture of Fimo Pro and Beesputty. I'm experiment with different mixes, but this was largely to add some colour, save on my sparse supply and ultimately became a more workable blend for me.

From Orkney and Shetland.

He* looks cool, I've been working on some trows myself so I'm looking forward to what direction you take them.

*Edit: She. Apologies.

Great sculpting. Although I confess I saw "trow" and was excited for one of these bad mothers from Myth: The Fallen Lords...

I'm doing a series of smaller species and my "game world" is loosely bases on Irish and Albion folklore and pseudo-history, so when I decided I wanted to do Trolls (typically Scandinavian), I leaned on the concept of Trows.

And I learned a new bit of folklore/mythology. Nice!

There are some lovely recordings from Orkney, Shetland and Fair Isle about trows here: http://www.tobarandualchais.co.uk/ (http://www.tobarandualchais.co.uk/)

You'll be doing well to understand some of it though. I'm from Orkney and my partner's from Shetland and we're pretty much stumped for some of what they're on about. Some of my favourite recording are of an old Fair Isle housewife reciting poems and riddles.

Aald Wife: "Does dis interest du any?"

Learned Man up from Edinburgh: "Yes, yes, go on!"

He doesn't have a clue what she's on about.
