Title: White Plains - Chatterton Hill 1776. 28mm, House Rules.
Post by: Jabba on June 19, 2018, 01:33:21 PM
On Friday night I took part in a American War of Independence game. The game was played using an in house set of rules and was based on the action around Chatterton Hill in 1776, part of the Battle of White Plains.

Initial Set Up

My command consisted of the leading elements of General Leslie's 2nd Brigade, the 28th and 35th Regiments of Foot together with two 12lbs of the Royal Artillery. I immediately advanced the infantry towards Chatterton Hill with the 35th on the right drifting slightly further right to open up the arcs of fire for the artillery.

My command

The rest of the 2nd Brigade arrived and deployed, with the 5th forward, 49th supporting, to my left and started advancing towards the centre of the hill. At this time we both received fire from Continental 6lb artillery.

The Continentals chose this moment to abandon their defences atop the hill and advance down towards the advancing British. The 1st New York and Delaware regiments engaged the 35th Foot in a musketry duel while the 19th Continentals and 3rd New York charged the 5th and 28th Foot respectively.
The 5th Foot routed but the 49th, behind them, and the 28th soon saw off the american regiments.

Events on the right flank of the Continentals plus the hour saw the game called here as a British and Hessian victory.
Another fun game. More on my blog at Jabba's Wargaming (https://jabbaswargaming.blogspot.com/2018/06/white-plains-chatterton-hill-1776-game.html)

Tony.

Timely, I've been in need of seeing a nice AWI game to keep the period in my mind as I work on a distractive project pulling me away from my own collection.  Thanks for posting.

Americans charged down the hill? Impatient, eh?
