I’ve got quite a few of the German/Austrian commissions on the go (in various scales) so I’ll post them all here as and when they get completed (I think there’s 12 to do at the moment).
First off are two unbased builds with another six or so to make afterwards. The client will be basing them himself so they match the rest of his terrain. 28mm Austrian for scale.

Should hopefully have an update this weekend.

Nailed it.

Thanks :)
Got a 15mm one on the go. Basically a smaller version of this one here http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=108923.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=108923.0)
Slightly reduced detailed given the size but the basics are there. Should be done Wednesday (heat depending).

This was an outstanding work of yours, I was visiting again and again that page, very inspiring! It was also an admirable piece of terrain on the battle table!
For sure this one will be as good or better! Cheers!

Thanks :)

Next are some more 28 houses and some 10mm building bases :)

Looking brill
-
Very nicely done, the clock face is a lovely touch :-*
-
Very nice James, looks the business.
Bob
-
Thanks chaps :)
Very nice James, looks the business.
Yeah, it’s you’re fault lol
-
James, can you PM me the basic cost for creating such a model - or something similar? Not including post.
-
Interesting that there are no chimneys - is that your choice, the customer's, or just the style of the actual buildings from that area?
Splendid work, btw!
-
Observant nobility there, Baron. I suspect most of us were so enthralled with the fine craftsmanship that we missed that detail. Doubly wondering since the first images in the thread do have chimneys. Good spotting.
-
Clients choice but I’ve seen plenty of German house that seem to have none at all.
-
The Low German House style of building often had an 'uhlenloch' opening instead of a chimney as they had an internal open fire pit type arrangement.
-
Actually, as a wargaming choice it makes a lot of practical sense to forsake the chimneys, especially if one plays with clumsy folks who are likely to catch them with cuffs or tape measures. I’ve had chimney pots broken off in storage ...... the horror!

Yep, someone very sizeable managed to knock a tree top off in last nights game. It took some doing, but he is rather large. ;)
I like the building as is very much. ;D

It was already hanging on by a thread, i just helped it to it's inevitable conclusion lol

Got some more done to go with the first couple of builds in the thread. Four to go and a church and that's that lot done :)
Just quick photos for now as I've got a French ironclad calling me :)

Great builds :-* 8)

They looks really great. Only the timbering could be a little bit more german style.(Andreas Kreuz,Bundwerk)

Thanks for the heads up and German text, very useful 8)

Next one done is a 15mm version of the Aspern Essling granary, for the same client as the 15mm building base earlier in the thread.

Finished off some 10mm builds for a regular client. He’s got three similar ones already and I’m working on a bigger one (but it went a bit wrong so I’m starting again). £1 for scale and the bases are 120mm square.

There must be a whole town of these by now!
In various scales, yes lol
-
Exquisite!
-
You're getting a good number of these done and they're all top quality.
-
Thanks again fellas :)
-
Largish update with plenty of wips :) All 28mm with a Victrix Austrian for scale.
First off is a wip of a one foot square building base. This is one of three and I think the others will be less enclosed. Still a fair bit to go.
Second are a couple of builds that are only being primed for the client. They’ll have small bases added to them as well as a few final details (like a roof on the barn lol).
Third are some finished sheds to go with the unbased individual builds earlier.
And finally the rear building of repeat of the second Aspern/Essling building base I completed previously.

Did you use the Oshiro laser cut roofing tiles? I like the jiggly effect. 8)
-
Lovely builds in this thread, really fairy tale in their detail.
Just one suggestion - that last build (last photo), below the chimney - maybe another 1 1/2 tiles needed?
-
Thanks :)

Certainly did.
Just one suggestion - that last build (last photo), below the chimney - maybe another 1 1/2 tiles needed?
Aha! I knew I forgot something. Good spot :D
-
They look great, even just with a coat of primer. :)
-
Really nice work, as always.
Also, I hope you don't mind, but I am "paying homage to," i.e., ripping off, your designs for my (much cruder) Austrian buildings.
-
lovely work on those :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Thanks gents :)

Lovely timber work.

Thanks :)

Ok, James, this is extrem perfect. Model for picture miniatures, to move them into the right scene. Sometimes I think the big companies need your work for their books. Have you send your address to Rick Priesley and Warlord?

Yeah, that's nice, that is.

Nah, terrain isn’t as popular as rules or figures and they got got big enough collections of their own :)
-
Brilliant build (as always) and thanks for the WIP pics - which get studied closely to try and improve my builds :)
-
Very nice work James on the partially destroyed building. Like it alot!
Best regards,
Helen

I think you're on to something there, he needs to release the Oshiro Bumper Book of Buildings.
-
Awesome work James 8) 8) 8)

Thanks again :)
On to the next one and although it’s not really timbered it’s to go with the individual houses from earlier. It’s a church, still wip at the moment though.

Cheers Helen :)
Painted the church last night/this morning (waiting for the sodding laundry to finish on a long cycle). Windows and doors later today then spire on Monday.

That is really fantastic, I have tried various times, all be it far from this standard to model Alpine/Tirolean churches and in particular the zwiebelturm, and I have to say you have brilliantly capured the essence, and patina of these churches. I really like the render of the dome-would these (domes) become available to buy. In admiration Stephen

Coming out so beautiful! Eager to see the dome done! Cheers!

I really like that 8)

That’s tidy. ;D

Probably not in the catalogue but I'm certainly open to doing them on a commission basis. Drop me a pm if you're interested :)

very beautiful church :-* :-* but vade retro 3d printed lol lol

Lovely, looking forward to the onion topper

All done. quite pleased with the dome. Please excuse the erratic photos, they were all taken t the same time with the same lighting, honest o_o

Excellent. The onion really sets it off :-*
-
That's one lucky wargame getting that collection of buildings. I know everyone else has said it, but that spire is amazing.
-
Thanks again chaps :)
Next up is a large model of the church at Aspern. Some conjecture work had to be done, mainly for the front as there wasn’t a lot of info available. There will be three tops; normal tiled (how it’s supposed to be), ruined tiled and an onion dome similar to the last one. There’s also a compound that is separate but its in the garage drying.

Colouring in has begun, shouldn’t be long now :)
There’s a compound to go with it but that’s at a lesser stage at the moment.

All done on this one. The compound is separate and can be placed either side.
More buildings to follow though in due course :)

Very nice indeed! 8)

Nicely finished - and I like the versatility you built into it.

That, James, is completely fandabadozi. One of your best from amongst your recent creations, IMHO.
:-*

Beautiful

Many thanks chaps :)

Damn!!
Missed this thread.
Not any more. :D
Fantastovsky James. :-* :-* :-*

That's a real beauty. Someone's gaming table is going to look a bit special.
-
Magnificent :)

Cheers fellas :)
-
Cracking! Such a serene, calm little church! :-*
-
Beautiful model. I do like the idea of the separate compound and the alternative onion dome roof, greatly adds to the usefulness of the piece.
-
Cracking work :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Are these a commission?
How many more to do?
-
Gorgeous!
-
Thanks again :)
Are these a commission?
How many more to do?
They’re all for different commissions. I thought it best to keep them all in one place instead of spamming :)
-
I must admit it’s not quite how I envisioned Colorado to be but I accept that artistic licence plays its part and has given us a much prettier version.
:D
-
Got a fairly large one on the go at the moment. A rough representation of Plancenoit. It's not exact but will give a feel for it.
First building done below.

Been ill most of the week and it’s not shifting yet but I forgot to post these earlier. Had a little bridge commission to do and also extra tower tops for the Aspern church.
First, the original spire.
Then a normal tiled top.

And finally a ruined tile top.

And lastly the bridge.

Nice pieces especially theburned out spire
-
You did an excellent job with the destroyed spire, but also the bridge is a really worthy piece!
-
Thank you :)
Just finished off another little building base to go with the walled compound earlier. One more of these to do for the same client but it’ll have a church and a small graveyard.

James,
How did you make the cut firewood? It’s a superb bit of detail.

Thanks again :)
More work on the Plancenoit building base. Couple ore buildings to go then it's onto the church.

Not Salute is out of the way it's back to more normal commission work :)
This is the third base of this particular commission and the church is a smaller version of the one I did before that didn't have a base.

Can't afford them though. That will change with a lottery win.
Any chance of a 'ball park' figure, so I know how big a lottery win?

Love bunch of houses :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
My favourite bit is the crooked wall, for some reason?
And the clock face , even without the hands !

Thanks Colin :)
Got another little one to show. This one is 20mm and the client wanted to paint it himself to fit with the rest of his collection. The waterwheel is separate to allow ease of painting.

Stunning

Even more magnificent than your usual masterpieces!

Got a quick, shaky video of the Quatre Bras build. Quite possibly going to do this more often as my wife quite likes the idea ::) lol

a) If you post it on the internetz it will be there forever
b) That’s not quite the sort of video the makers of the GoPro had in mind.

Nice vid by the way!

Great build and video James. :-* :-*

A stunning farm and not an easy to build. The slate on the roofs is great and must have taken a lot of your time I love the many wonderful details and the ground. The whole thing looks also solid and sturdy... very good job.

Occasionally yes but to be honest I reckon that not long after I bring them out the MDF bandwagon will do the same :?

Thanks chaps :)
Occasionally yes but to be honest I reckon that not long after I bring them out the MDF bandwagon will do the same :?
Like the Japanese stuff? Personally mdf is ok as a base for some stuff and for Old West, but I much prefer resin for most types of building.
-
That's a very fair point there James. However all your builds have so much more character. Love all your buildings.
-
Like the Japanese stuff?
Yeah, my sales dropped right off when the mdf stuff started coming out (most of it isn't that historically accurate either which is even more annoying lol)
That's a very fair point there James. However all your builds have so much more character. Love all your buildings.
Thank you. I could look at doing some smaller buildings at some point I suppose but I don't want to invest that much time into it.
-
Have you thought about doing bits that would improve MDF kits (Doors, windows &
little bits that might go outside the door)?
If you can't beat them, join them.
-
Superb!
-
Finished one of the big ones I've been working on, Plancenoit. It's about 400mm x 800mm and is mounted on 6mm mdf for stability. These are only some quick photos as I need to try and get a decent set up sorted as it's bigger than what I normally use lol
I've got the Grande Armie coming later this week so when they are here I'll do some proper photos :)

Nah, not worth it from my point of view.

That is divine :-*
-
Oh yes! That really is the dog’s dangly bits.
-
Excellent
-
Fantastiiiic!!!
-
Wow, that's something else! It's pretty much a gaming table on its own. I particularly like the ground texture. Lovely work.
-
Many thanks gents :)
There will be an extension to it to make it an ‘L’ shape with the church at the top of the ‘L’.
-
Tres joli, mon brave
-
The first Napoleonic game in my life was Plancenoit. Since then, I'm longing to replay it.
What you made here is so inspirational, it's a treat!
Apart from the buildings, your ground texture is so well done!
Eager to see the extension and more photos!!!
-
Vive La France! Vive L'Emperor! :D
A most magnificent build :-*
-
A wonderful set of buildings.
Lucky guy who will own it.

Thanks chaps :)

-
Stonkingly good, I hope the new owner appreciates it as much as we do. :-*
-
Truly superb
-
Thanks gents :)
-
Amazingly good - love that last picture especially :-* :-*
-
Yes! This low angle picture is all the money! :-* :-* :-*
And somebody doesn't have to admire the perfection of the buildings, but the realistic basing as well!
-
Gorgeous.
-
Indeed, as they all say.
And that last picture forced me to the blog to see what was up since it showed the church steeple that wasn't in the featured build of part two - and obviously it was on part one. Are there more parts to come?
-
Lovely and outstanding work! :-*
On top of what everyone already mentioned, very clever design to combine parts one and two in multiple ways. Most excellent!
-
Thanks again :)
-
The first thing I want to say is that this is excellent work - far better than anything I could do.
The one thing you haven't quite caught, and I appreciate this is difficult (if not impossible) to do in a 'stand alone' model that isn't fitting into a larger contoured board, is the 'sunken' nature of the roads within the centre of Plancenoit. When I visited the village in 2014, the first thing that struck me was "Wow! This looks nothing like any depiction I've ever seen on a wargames table!" However, yours is as close to the real thing as I have seen in wargaming terms.
The church (which is not the one that's currently standing there - so well done for not copying it) and the north-eastern half of the village is on a hill, whilst the south-western half is around the edge of a bowl that runs to the foot of the church entrance and forms a central 'square'. As you walk around the northern and eastern sections particularly, but all the roads in and out of the southern and western sections too, the first thing that strikes you is that the boundary walls of many of the properties go up to head height (I'm 6'5"), with the ground floor levels of the buildings a few feet above that, in some cases. Storming the village from east to west and north to south must have been an absolute nightmare, and difficult to imagine being performed without ladders!
Anyway, well done - looking forward to seeing more of your work.
-
Cracking work big chap! One of your finest me thinks! :-*
-
Cheers :)
To the Baron. Yes, you’re correct but it mentions in the blog post that it’s not supposed to be wholly Plancenoit as the intention is to use it for battles/games other than that one. The client wanted something a bit generic but identifiable.
Sunken roads would’ve been possible though along with the hill but impractical for the client :)
-
I did "speed read" through the entire thread and thought that was what you were aiming for. You seem to have done what the client wanted, which is fair enough.
-
Stunning amount of great detailed work Jim :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Away at the moment but still doing bits here and there. Some 15mm German builds. Sprayed white as it was the only decent primer available.
One or two details to finish off and there’s a third house but I’m still working on the roof.

Got some more builds on the go for (name drop time) Alan Perry. Some German Saxon farm buildings. Seven in total but I won't be able to do the bigger ones as I probably won't be able to bring them back lol
The last one will be painted at home as I can't find a decent enough spray here. It's not that there won't be one, it's just it would take to long to find it.

Fascinating to see how your builds start out and beautifully done as always.
Hopefully those will get this Alan Perry chappie properly started in wargaming ;)
-
Excellent work - look forward to seeing the last one painted
-
Lovely :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks chaps :)
Just noticed I need to do the peg holes on the barn. That’s tonight sorted lol
-
Lovely stuff, as we have come to expect from a 'terrain builder to the stars'. :D
-
Simply outstanding! Well done Sir.
-
Gorgeous!!! :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks again :)
I've built the fourth and painted the third, three more to go :)

When they're all done I'll put them in/on some proper terrain as the white backgrounds can look a little stark when there's a few buildings together.
-
They are beautiful :-*
-
Just superb, I'm in awe of the skill.
-
I think I’ve just drooled on my keyboard :-*
Your buildings really are superb.
-
Thank you kindly chaps :)

Cracking job :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Mega, Uber Wow! :D

looking great :o :o :o :o :o :o

Exceptionally smart, James.

Phenomenal! The one with the arch is particularly eye-catching.

Wowsers :-*

So perfectly done, :-* that if I didn't know that it is you, I might suppose they are cast models!

Many thanks chaps, much appreciated :)

Nice work James. You have such a delicate touch. 8) :-*
-
Fantastic looking buildings James! :-*
Christopher

Thanks chaps :)
I don’t often get time to do wip photos (or I forget) but I’m quite pleased with how this is turning out. It’s a semaphore mast (main structure to follow shortly) and will be static and removable from the tower. It’s a Mix of lasered elements, styrene rod/strip and brass rod.

Pretty fancy ass model making Mr.Bibbly. 8)
-
Nice work James. You have such a delicate touch. 8) :-*
Worth repeating 8)
-
Cheers fellas :)
Based off particular one?
Just an amalgamation of the reference photos I was given and some artistic license for the scale.
-
For navy or a portuguese one? :)
-
French I think mate ???
-
French I think mate ???
BURN IT!!
-
Well, usually both the British and Portuguese used that kind of semaphore. :)
-
Nice work James on an unusual communication system that you don't see on the table top.
Cheers,
Helen
-
Thanks :)
Well, usually both the British and Portuguese used that kind of semaphore. :)
I’m assuming the client is using it as a generic one ???
-
Yup. Probably. And the french would have some kind of signals too. :)
-
It is loosely based on a French Revolutionary War era signal station.
I gave Oshiro some pictures from the web and there is also a rarherhelpful video on the BBC website of a restored French station of the period that still operates. This will make a useful objective for some coastal games.

And i´m looking forward to see it finished. :)
I´m sure James will do a great job on this signal station.

All done :)
I fancy making one for myself now as I'd like to do a little 'Hornblower' project based on the episode 'The Frogs and the Lobsters' :)

Thanks chaps :)

Jaw dropping! ;D

Superb! :-*

Great model. :-* :-*

I like a lot the kind of fractured rock you put on the semaphore's base!
Dare I ask you to provide some "how to" info? Thanks in advance!

Terrific job on that. 👍👍
-
Absolutely stonking build, it looks ace :-*
-
Thanks again :)

I generally just cut out a round shape a bit bigger than what it should be then hack at it with a long knife becoming more careful as I progress. It gets a coat of textured paint then gets painted as normal :)
-
Splendid work, as always. Of course, now you'll be expected to do some wuthering heights to go with it. ;)
-
I like the signal tower - very well done.
Tony

This has been done for a while but I've only just gotten round to taking decent pictures of it (it's not being delivered until we're fully out of lockdown).
Second time it's been done as well but this one is slightly different as the client wanted a perpendicular crossroads for it instead of an angled one.

As ever, lovely work Jim!
Might as well ask a master craftsman and architectural guru while I am at it. When did gutters become a thing with houses? I know they go back at least as far as antiquity and wood and lead versions were around since Roman days but did they only become a thing in vernacular architecture when the cast iron ones presumably made them cheap enough to mass produce?
-
Got a little 20mm build out the way. It’s about 250mm square :)

I have probably asked before but where do you get your windows from?
-
Cheers fellas :)
I have probably asked before but where do you get your windows from?
Lasered. If you want some (or any different ones) drop me a pm :)
-
Beautiful.
Did you ever consider casting large thin sheets of tiles / slates that you could cut to size in one piece?
-
I did, yes and both ways have pros and cons. For the moment this way works the best for the style of build I've got but it could change in the future. It would be good for proper pantiles but there's quite a bit of work in that to get it right.
-
Some of you might have seen these before. Alan Perry got me to make some buildings for him and he took some wonderful action shots with them and his figure collection and allowed me to use them :)

The Perry pictures make me even more envious.
Ah well one big lottery win & it could all be mine,
I shall continue to dream.
-
Wow, cracking photos. They remind me a bit of the old White Dwarf back covers. I always liked those.
-
Excellent builds! You captured the German style buildings well, and the scenic shots fully do them justice.
-
Many thanks again gents :)
-
Between those buildings and the photography there is a lot of talent on display there- really inspiring.

Finished a Dutch town-hall for a regular client the other day. Based on a real one that's right next to a canal but this one was based for more normal terrain.

That is completely brilliant! You have surpassed yourself with that. Where did the statue come from?
-
Beautiful colours, detail and proportions... but couldn't you have used Flemish bond brickwork? ;)
Those decorations over the windows are particularly fine, though.
-
Love the windows :-* :-* :-*
And the roof details :-* :-* :-*
-
Unbelievably perfect! So lovely! :-*
-
Many thanks chaps :)
but couldn't you have used Flemish bond brickwork? ;)
I could but it’s the style of coursing that’s on the actual building lol
Where did the statue come from?
It’s an old die cast I’ve had for years.

Exceptional

Top job James 8)

wow, i think the best brickwork building you have done, how did you do all the
fancy brickwork? i build bricks and stone for a living and i have to say the yellow brick especially
looks real

Potentially.

Drawn in cad, then lasered. Sprayed suitable base colours, speckled and then washed with inks.
-
Wow!! Just wow!!! :o :o :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Thats a great work James.
-
Fabulosi :-*
One of your best.
As a wise critic once remarked, I think you’re gradually getting better at this ;) lol
-
Ooh,ooh, this is fantastic! Do the roofs lift off to hide inside? It would be perfect if it did.
-
Thanks gents :)

As the kids say, that townhouse is pretty spesh! :-* Lovely details mate!

Fantastic. Thank you for posting all these images.

Got another couple done and out the way. The first is basically a copy of my 'Frogs and Lobsters' barn and the second is a copy from a previous commission but on it's own rather than with others.

very nice unusual shaped house :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Lovely terrain as always! You just know how to make “simple” functional buildings look interesting. And good use of angled walls and courtyards to add even more to them and playability.
-
Tres magnifique. :)
-
Beautiful made buildings.

Swanky, Jimmy, swanky :-*

Many thanks everyone :)
Plenty more in the pipe line :D

I really like that you have the walled garden fixed to the base with the building- I think I am going to start doing that.

I try to stay away from this thread as much as possible because your builds are just too amazing for me to imagine.
Still... I keep peeking. ;)

Gorgeous build
:-*
-
Another masterpiece 👍
-
I love that some of the walls around the yard are slightly off square. To me, it makes the piece unique and adds to the authenticity. I expect rural builders of the time worried mainly about structural soundness and components of the farm might have been built at different times, so parts wouldn’t always line up perfectly. It is beautiful work!
-
Thanks again :)
-
Superb

Great work, James. Do you cut the MDF by your own or do you order it at a company??? :D

These last buildings look supurb.
Can you enlighten us how you make those birck walls (or what you use in making them)?
-
I love the roof on that barn.
-
Lovely James
Cheers
Matt
-
Friend of mine lives in a house almost exactly like the last one pictured. :o
Only the roof looked slightly more dodgy before he had it remodelled – warped beams seem quite a common issue with old houses in rainy Germany…
In essence, very well done. I for one would be a very happy customer. :-*
-
Many thanks chaps :)

Styrene sheet cut to shape sometimes with the balsa at the same time then just painted as normal.
Here are another two done for a different regular client.

These are stunning - well done.
How do you do the terracotta pantile roofs - is that plasticard?
-
Top class workmanship as always 👍
-
Another two lovely builds! That sure is a happy customer :-*
-
Thanks for the info, the buildings are just wow!
-
Thanks again :)

I’ve got various sheets from various manufacturers and just pick and choose.

Need these are so so good.

:-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Really good. :)
-
Very impressive indeed.
Do you have any plans to do C18th/19th German/Austrian buildings in resin in the fullness of time ?
-
I doubt I have seen anything better than these in nearly 40 yrs as a wargamer

Thank you kindly :)

Possibly :)

I really like the Austrian figure shown to indicate scale or size. What make is he?
Thanks

Can't remember, sorry.

He looks like a Victrix plastic Austrian to me.

Lovely job again :-*
All that's missing is a stork's nest on that chimney ;) :)
-
Brilliant!
But I'm not sure about the placement of the chimney. At least in Bavaria (very close related to Austria), the chimney is placed inside the building to heat all rooms around the chimey and not on the front side of the building.
-
Beeeeeoootiful :-*
-
Thanks chaps :)

That's an interesting point. Some of the reference photos I've got show a chimney on the side so I suppose it's a later addition ???
-
If you have picture than is seem ok!
The problem is that building styles changes very often in Germany and Austria. In an area of 100 Square Kilometers in south-east Bavaria I know at least 5 different styles of placing the farm buildings at farms, build in the late 19. and early 20. century.
Sometimes you can even pin down the area of a building by the style the roof is done, tile roof, slate roof, wooden shingle etc.

Awkward buggers lol

Cracking job :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Lovely work. :-* :-* :-*

Great work - a lovely terrain piece 8)

Cracking job on another building base! Having just struggled with painting large flat surfaces I admire your skills and how the white walls came out even more :-*
-
Thanks :)
Couple more builds for a regular client. I’ll see about getting hold of some photos of his set up soon.
Corners for the walls weren’t needed as he’s got enough buildings now.

Brilliant as usual!

nice!

Lovely builds, and you once again caught that austro-german feel really well. These would fit particularly well into hessia or rhino-palatia, but would enrich any Central European battle field.

Cracking job on those :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Gosh James, missed these latest buildings, they are very lovely pieces bravo.

This one is part of a larger collection of several buildings (terraces, factory, church) that are currently on going. They are going to be used for later 19th and early 20th century (no posters have been added to define it to a particular time period).
28mm for the win and it's about 400mm long. There is the possibility of adding rear gardens in the future which would be good to do.

Lovely builds! They could even be used for earlier periods, too, with a little bit of good will. I agree that they would look even better and offer more in terms of gaming with rear gardens added. Looking forward to seeing more of that series.
-
As always, beautiful work.
You could always (temporally) add posters with tiny balls of blue-tac.
-
Advice from a german: Wurstler is very rar word. Mainly we use Fleischer for it. Was a little laughter for a german lol

You can use it even Early 21th century if you add some modern bits. I go once a week to my Metzger, but I never came across a "Wurstler" lol

Thanks chaps :)

Something new learned! Never heared this wort in Bavaria, seems to died ou years ago.
And fantasitic buildings as usual!

Never heard it in northern Germany either. Maybe specific to a certain region.

They look great, I always like the subtle weathering you do.
And back yards/gardens - definitely :)

I think in the north it is more "Fleischer" than "Metzger". But I had to search if "Wurstler" really exist and it exist. Now I can surprise the people and ask for the "wurstler".
@Wellington: Next Tactice we ask for the "Wurstler"...

Cheers again :)

Nice build!

lol
But nethertheless as usual a fantastic building!

Wonderful set of buildings. :-* :-* :-*
+1 for the gardens. Shouldn't the bookshop sign read 'Buchgeschäft' rather than the English version?
-

It’s ‘Bock’. The font is a bit unreadable but is the closest one I could find to the original.
-
It’s ‘Bock’. The font is a bit unreadable but is the closest one I could find to the original.
This one makes perfect sense. Its a cigare shop, and it was written sometimes with C instead of Z in the last century, and the owner is a mister Bock. Thats makes "Cigaretten Bock". Its very common in Germany to name the shop after the product you sell and the name of the owner even today, e.g. "Buchhandlung Huber", "Metzgerei Maier", "Backerei Sedlmaier", "Schlosserei Hintermeier"
-
But the guttering is missing :o
-
"Wurstler Willy"
Jolly Nice buildings.

I always admire your buildings, but also how nicely you make them blend with the surrounding terrain!
You make it look like if these buildings were standing there for years! Congrats!

Gorgeous work, you really bring the setting to life.

Finished off a Franco Prussian War chateau and I'm quite pleased with how it came out :)
The doors for the garden open and it could also be used for WWI and WWII. The house is separate the the garden if the game calls for it.

Wow! That's fantastic James. :-* 8)
-
Lovely work. :-*
I especially like the attention to detail like the handles and locks on the gates :D :)
-
Love it James, a really lovely job on that piece, excellent for most post 17th century games.
A few points about French houses, the building you have built is more like a maison du maître, they normally have three but up to 4 windows with either a entrance onto the street or via the courtyard . A Maison Particulière has a minimum of 5 and up to 8 windows across the front and is within a town(17-19th C), with the only entry within in the courtyard, not into the street. A chateau has a minimum of 5 windows and no maximum and is normally in the country side bit can be built around.
Cheers
Matt

Yeah, I got a nice little book about them which is a great resource but the build was to the clients directions so I was a bit stuck to do anything 'larger' :)
-
Lovely work, but I am left wondering why there isn't a door (French Windows?) into the garden...?
-
Tres, tres joli, mon brave.
For a moment though, I thought those were radio antennae on the roof lol
-
Thanks very much chaps :)

Always a challenge my friend.
I had our 4 storey Maison particular 3D printed to 1/72 scale it is 36cm long and 29cm high, impractical for wargaming if I add it with all of our surrounding Maison Particulars and the 17th century chateau opposite our house.
Cheers
Matt
-
Magnifique bâtiment!
I’m in awe of your builds.
-
Thanks again :)
but I am left wondering why there isn't a door (French Windows?) into the garden...?
Because it wasn’t a requirement.
Always a challenge my friend.
Certainly is :) It would be an interesting exercise to do a ‘figure scale’ accurate building of this sort of size but it would be an absolute sod to store lol

We live on a French patrimone listed 18th square where all of the buildings were built between 1690 and 1740 I have thought about reprimanding for a Royal Catholic Armee vs French Republican skirmish, but storage is not a issue, just build time!

‘But there’s no back door.’
‘Look mate, I just build wots in the plans’. You ain’t asked for it, you ain’t paid for it’.

Very nice looking build. The punter can just tell himself it’s a security measure.

Just a couple of fairly generic German/Austrian builds that are variations on a theme this time. I really do need to paint some more Austrian figures though... I've got a couple of boxes worth lol
