Title: GB's plastic SAGA Roman army. A new unit.
Post by: blacksmith on July 19, 2018, 08:21:41 AM
With one infantry box and one cavalry box I have enough models for an eight points army. The infantry box gives me five points and the cavalry three.
Here you can see the six points army I'm using at the moment and that it is giving me victories. I'm thinking of getting eight more archers to make two 12 warrior units with them...

Quick, simple and effective  :)

I see you've fallen for the 'image of Mary' statement from the Historia Brittonum. At the time of the fall of the Roman Empire in the West/Age of Arthur, the cult of Mary was hardly up and running as a kickstarter with Christians in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Nice figures.

Great looking army... very dynamic.

I thought the infantry box was a little boring, but you've really made them shine! :)

I suspect the OP has actually fallen for the "unavoidable compulsion to get maximum value from any given Little Big Man Studios transfer set" ...  ;)

Yep, that was the idea, to deploy an army with minimum expense and painting time  :)

Nice looking force; those plastic Romans certainly are quite the effective way to create a SAGA army. I like your basing too - good variation to create a realistic looking field.

Thank you. Bases are drybrushed sand with three types of different flock on it.

I have painted a new unit. The varnish turned white where it pooled down. I had to carved it out from their faces.

The dragon standard is from the infantry box. You can notice the white varnish in the heads of horse and standard as well in the neck of the rider   :(

Not a huge fan of the models - the horses are a bit too cartoony for me. But I have to say that the unit as a whole looks great. Very dynamic. You've done a good job with those  :)

Very sorry to hear about your varnish disaster. It's no consolation, I know, but it's happened to all of us  :(
What varnish were you using?

Thanks for your kind words. I use Talens 050 and haven't had a problem before, but maybe it happened because the varnish left in the pot was the very bottom and it was  thicker than usual.
