Just managed to finish these. They are 15mm and from Legio Heroica.
I painted them as Arkangelogorodsky Regiment. My source for the uniform was the splendid: The Russian army in the Great Northern War 1700-21 by Boris Megorsky from Helion & Company.
I've still got lots of regiments to paint, but the first unit of a new project is always important to me.

Very nice :)
Can I ask why the bases are so tall? Is it just for the name scroll on the back?
-
Thanks.
The 5mm thick bases have been a thing of mine for a quite long time. They are really easy to move and pick up. Also they rank up easily. I like my units more as boardgame pieces.
This is the first unit that has the name of the unit written in the base. As it shows, I still have to practice the freehand painting and writing.

Fantastic painting well done.
Can't get my head around the basing though.

CRACKING WORK

Thanks.

I saw somebody do something similar with some Warhammer Fantasy move trays. They used 3/4 inch thick wooden material (about 15mm; something locally available and inexpensive) for their trays/stands. At first, I wondered, “Why?” But, once I saw it in action opposing another Army it made sense. You could instantly see at a glance which Army was which.

like that basing style a lot.
-
They look really great! You made out the best from these Legio Heroica minis! Gorgeous!
(Must re-view quickly their site ;D)
Please, keep posting!

The project finally got some more steam.
After a little thought, I decided to split the regiment to two battalions. So here is the second battallion of Archangelogorotsky regiment and the two battalions from Smolensky regiment.

I'm planning to paint eight more battalions before switching to cavalry and artillery, followed by the Swedes.
So there is still more to come. Hopefully much sooner than these.

Your basing works and does give a quality board game look.

:-* :-* :-*

Lovely work! Really crisp painting, the units certainly "pop", I like the basing it works well for me and I can see why you go with it. :)
-
I think the pics, although impressive, they don't do justice to the excellent paintjob you achieved! Congrats!
You could possibly could make some more close-ups so that we can admire your work!

yes, this.
I think with 15mm this is pretty much an ideal look - certainly for this era anyway.
lovely painting too I should add.
-
More progress.
Today I finished the Preobrazhensky Guards regiment with three battalions.
There is only five infantry battalions to go and then I'm painting the dragoons and artillery.

Very nice indeed

I might be getting a bit repetitive, but here is another regiment for the Russian army.
This time Belgorodsky Regiment with their red neck cloths and yellowish trousers.

Fear not. There is only one regiment left. I thought I would make the Ingemarlandsky regiment with it's three battalions.
I might also paint it with grey jackets they had prior getting the green ones. We'll see how it works.
-
Infantry painted.
Here is the last regiment: Ingemarlandsky. I painted it with the earlier grey coats to get a brake from green uniforms.

A group picture of the infantry. 12 battalions split over 5 regiments.

I will eventually paint more infantry, but next I'm painting artillery and then cavalry.
-
They look great! Keep them coming! Cheers!
-
Great looking regiments, looking forward to seeing your artillery and cavalry. :)
-
Thank You for Your kind words Sirs.
Artillery is always one of my favourites to paint. These were painted in two days.

Next the cavalry. I don't like painting horses, so it might take a while.
-
Artillery have turned out very well indeed, really super. :)
-
Bravo!!! They look great! Cheers!
-
Very nice painting :)

Look exceptional!!!!

Thanks once again for your kind words.
And maybe because of your encouragement: The first regiment of dragoons is already painted. They painted up quite fast and nice. This is Ingemarlandsky regiment with it's four squadrons.

I based it on 60mmx40mm bases to have the same frontage as my infantry. I'm really eyeing towards the GNW supplement for The league of Augsburg's War of Three Kings. All my basing in this project is based on that rulebook, but in15mm scale.
Can't wait to paint another regiment! And that's really something, because I'm talking about painting horses!
-
They are really gorgeous! Congratulations!

More dragoons: Sibirsky dragoon regiment

These Legio Heroica sculpts come out so nicely! It's your excellent paintjob of course that gives them life! Cheers!

The dragoons are lovely!! Your project is a real inspiration. :)

And some high command. These are from Khurasan miniature's WSS range. I think they do a good job as Russian commanders. I will get commander from Legio Heroica too, once they are ready, as these Khurasan models are a a bit larger.
