It's hard to resist. For now I have this test model, a basic Warrior. Had only a vague idea of where I was going with this, both conversion and paintingwise. I do like where I arrived. I feel this will be a very fun warband to make.

I kind of like it. I always thought it was a bit weird that these Necrons would sit in their tombs for millennia and arise without a bit of corrosion or mould on them..? Or are we to believe they all go through a power washer/budding machine before emerging onto the battlefield!?
-
Much, much better than super shiney Necrons, I will have homage
to pinch that idea thanks ;)
-
I like it very much!
Nice work. I may rust up my old school necrons that I painted a while ago.
-
It's amazing how a simple conversion can change the feel of a mini, very haunting.
-
That's great! Looks like something out of Heavy Metal (the classic magazine, not GW 'eavy metal). Way more fun that the Terminator clone Necrons.
-
Love this!
When I first saw it I immediately thought 'Classic Sci-Fi!', which GW minis rarely give me the feeling of. It also reminds me of those early Blanche fantasy conversions - I think it's because it somehow looks more like a skeleton than usual, which pushes it onto fantasy territory. It's really fantastic.
What did you do to texture it?
-
Thanks! Made another one. This is my version of a Deathmark.

I distressed the surfaces with a dremel in places, and I stippled liquid green stuff over everything but the gun.
-
they look really cool!
-
This is the first time in all these years that I see Necrons and totally fall in love with them. That's the way. It totally makes sense and gives the minis a completely different interpretation. Bravo!
-
Whoa these look incredible!! Congrats on some great looking figures!
If you dont mind me asking how did you achieve that look on the armour? I love how corroded it looks!
-
Superb work, the paint job and conversions make these look like an entirely new faction (a damn scary one at that).
-
Thanks guys!
If you dont mind me asking how did you achieve that look on the armour? I love how corroded it looks!
Black primer, white primer on top. Watered down green applied as a glaze over everything. Then more green glazes that fade towards bottom and red glazes that fade towards top. Shading with controlled black washes. Subtle highlights with lighter green. Gun painted flat red. A little bit of shading on it with darker red. I think that's more or less it. Keep in mind that I added texture to the metal with a dremel, putty and liquid green stuff before painting.

Maybe a dumb question, but what rulebooks are needed to play Killteam with xenos (necron, tau and tyranids). I gave up 40K close to 10 years ago but still have all my old models and it'd be nice to throw down some games if it's not too expensive.
I'd looked at the Necromunda reboot for the same reason but was put off as it seemed more a subscription service than a standalone game.

Just the core rulebook. All the factions information is in them.
-
That's right, all the factions' rules are in the core manual.
An update on my team. Immortal with Tesla carbine and Deathmark #2.

Oooo! Love that immortal. I might try to get some old Space Crusade androids to play around with.
-
Sweet Christmas, that Immortal is gorgeous. Utterly splendid work on these so far.
-
Lovely.
I like how you made the necron tilt due to the heavy weapon arm. Very dynamic and realistic.
-
Nice.
-
Very cool, love the different take.
I've been playing Necrons in KT a little, you definitely want a couple of Flayed Ones to run interference.
-
:-* :-* Love them, That Immortal kinda reminds me of the God Warriors from Nausicaa. Never much been a fan of the Necrons, especially not with those riduculous transparant green rods, but these really show cool they can be.
I think I might still have one of those old space crusade androids, might have to dig it out and see what I can do with it after seeing these
-
Cheers everyone! Since the last update their number has doubled, as I converted and painted three more Warriors and one Immortal. More on the blog: LINK (http://gardensofhecate.blogspot.com/2018/09/clxxxvii-kill-team-second-necron.html).

Those are some of the coolest, creepiest looking Necrons Ive ever seen!
Think you might build some corresponding terrain for them to haunt? Like a Tomb covered in red dust...

Thanks! Yes, I'm actually planning a matching KT board that represents the environment of their tomb world. Don't know when I'll get to it, though.
-
Very creepy.
The basing does remind me of red velvet cakes.
-
Lovely, lovely stuff - that Immortal in particular is gorgeous.
What did you do to texture it?
I distressed the surfaces with a dremel in places, and I stippled liquid green stuff over everything but the gun.
Watched this 10 minute YouTube video Tabletop Minions yesterday that goes through a version of that technique:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cK97CLGFwY4
-
Very nice technique. I might get me some of that :)
-
That is sooo creepy......cooool! 8) I do live the different heads you've used. Using skulls and (what looks like) pilot heads from the alien films, is inspired. The red guns give them a Mars Attacks feel!
-
Great work. Has a bit of a John Blanche feel to them. Of course a bit of WD40 will stop all the squeaking joints alerting their targets.
-
Super impressive stuff.
The necrons always struck me as a bit of a dull faction without much personality until I saw this thread.
Superb work.

Superb work.
The side of effect of being a mindless robot killing machine ;)
Those are an intresting take on Necrons. I always prefer my Necrons dirty and worn I never got the shiney silver GW paint schemes. After thousands of years in a dusty tomb it seems a bit odd they come out all gleaming like someone has given them a good going over with the silver polish before battle.
I have to say I prefered Necrons as they where represented in the 3rd/4th edition Codex when they where more mysteroius and ruled by the C'tan once they went all Egyptian Robots in space, with the next codex, and gained more personality I think they lost a lot of what made them interesting.

Couldn't agree more!
I've got a 3rd/4th edition Necron army, existing of 2nd ed Necron Raider metal models, conversions and scratchbuilds, all in line with the riveted aesthetic of the original miniatures.
What was part of the attraction for me back then was the idea of countless, faceless metal ranks marching on tirelessly. The whole notion of them having become automatons without any free will was (and is) just very creepy.
Like Cybermen, actually... ::)
For some reason, Necrons have been cropping up in à lot of threads and conversations of late, so I'm half of mind to revisit my army and make it grow even more.
But I absolutely love this kill team! the concept and execution are both awesome and original. I think you may actually have found the way Necrons really ought to look.
Please keep it up, because they're phenomenal! 8)
-
Thanks everyone!
New arrival to the team, Immortal #3. This one is the commander of this bunch.

Oh he is just great. I love how you built this one.
-
Yes. Definitely an amazing piece that one. My favourite.
-
Very creepy and very awesome!
-
That is some sweet stuff. Just all over the place and evil looking and over the top. The kind of variance that is at the core of the neatness of 40K.
-
Loving the Dark Fantasy feel I get from these even though they are sci-fi :-*
-
This warband has been lying dormant for over a year.. The new Necron release made me want to pick it up again and add a few things.
Flayed One
The core Kill Team rulebook has four unit types for Necrons: Warriors, Deathmarks, Immortals and Flayed Ones. The latter was the only one I hadn't made for my original kill team, even though I had the design figured out. But here it is now, my interpretation of a Flayed One. The red legs and arms come from Admech Ruststalkers, the torso is from Victrix Gallic Naked Fanatics, and the head is a GW skull.

Bone trees
Produced by the awesome Wilhelminiatures, these resin scenery pieces fit so well with my Beksiniskiesque Necrons. You can get them on Etsy: LINK (https://www.etsy.com/shop/WilhelMiniatures). I wanna eventually make a small themed gaming board for my 'crons.

These are brilliant, Ana. I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll create with the new releases.
-
Very nice! (I think, lol)
-
Oh man - I love it!
-
A bit of a different take. More "Terminator"-esque.
