Title: Transcaspian 1918: Withdrawal to Tejen
Post by: Father Primus on August 25, 2018, 10:48:46 AM
So, our pseudo-campaign continues.

After loosing Dushak in a bloody assault, remaining red forces attempt a hasty withdrawal to Tejen. Main white and interventionist forces are weakened in the last battle, but their wast cavalry masses launch a pursuit.

Unknown to reds small railway station on their way is occupied by rebellious railway workers, who side themselves with Transcaspian white cause.

In this skirmish both sides actively used aviation. Red plane (Nieuport-17) caused havoc in the indian cavalry lines, strafing them continuously with lots of casualties. White plane (SPAD-VII) was of little use - killed and wounded some red soldiers with no significant effect.

Rebellious railway workers became a serious problem, as their resistance was unusually stubborn for such a type of unit. They destroyed one platoon of red infantry with an officer and battered another one (it was mercilessly cut by cunning turkmenian horsemen in the end of the battle).

Despite this circumstance, overall the battle was very unlucky one for the whites. Their main strength - indian squardons - were shot from the distance and rolled poorly in combat. They (mainly thanks to the headstrong and ruthless british officer) managed to cripple the red rearguard, but the supply wagon and main forces managed to escape.

Scattered and unorganized attacks by white and turkmenian cavalry had little to no effect at all. Biggest part of the reds managed to escape - major victory for the bolshevik forces.
