Title: Austrian Hussars, cir 1794
Post by: Sheepman on September 16, 2018, 07:05:03 PM
As part of an ongoing refurbishment project I have just completed twenty four 28mm Austrian hussars, in this case the 7th 'Leichtenstein':

I converted on of the Eureka figures to a standard bearer, I know very few, if any Austrian hussars carried their flags on campaign but hey I like flags!

Splendid looking unit and very interesting period!
me too i collect and game French Revolution also if only at skirmish/semi skirmish level..and for the moment limited at Vendée and insurrections VS French in the South of Italy. My armies are mainly composed of relativly small minis from Mirliton, Charriot, Foundry , some  few Trent miniatures (Cisalpine/Polish/"banditi") and the extremely rare French Touller figurines (Chouans/Vendéens)...me too i would be very tempted to buy Eureka minis that you show so well painted and in an appealing atmosphere in your blog...but i read somewhere that they are quite big...what do you think..could they be fielded together with smallest minis from the above mentioned manufactures that i already have?

I,ve only just caught this thread.  24 x hussars, Wow 🤩, that’s a big unit / regiment. Having painted a few in the past I realise what effort must have gone in to these to bring them to this standard . The Parrot green shakos make the uniform very distinctive. Its odd to see a trumpeter dressed more soberly than the rest of the Regiment. The improvised standard works very well and I note the painted pole , excellent 👌🏼 . The figures have a lot of movement, leaning forward in the saddle .These  Eureka figures are excellent for this period, well done ✔️.

Cheers again guys,
italwars, if you scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on 'older posts' there are quite a few shots of Vendee figures in there, i.e.:

or

Anyway, plenty to look at. Eureka will match in well with other figures, Elite are a little large for me at 30mm but lovely figures non the less.

Belisarius, thanks for the comments, much appreciated. Yes twenty four hussars are a lot to do, I think it's 10mm for me next, keep it simple!

My goodness, that's a lot of braid!
A very inspiring paintjob- not that it's easy to rival it, of course.

Lovely work all around.  Do like the green shakos on the Hussars and very nice to see a Vendee game.
