I'm hosting a small game in October and realised that I hardly have any Chinese figures ::)
Time to remedy that and here's the first/test

I've already got plenty of buildings and I'll post those later (I did have a thread but most of the pics went by by with Photo****it)
cheers
James
-
James,
This could be a rather short game lol lol Nice start, and you know what we say "You can never have enough Chinese!" Please post your Chinese buildings. I always need inspiration...…..and you just might make a sale.
Lon
-
Nice start :)
-
What manufacturer are you using?
-
Thanks chaps :)
Lon, anytime you’re ready ;)
The figure (and following figures) are from the Foundry Taiping range but they’ll certainly do for what I have in mind.
-
Got a little set up to see what other terrain I’ll need for the game. I will need plenty of figures of course lol
A few paddy fields wouldn’t go amiss and a bit more scatter terrain but I don’t think it’s far off.

Very good, you've got a lot more buildings done that I remember you showing previously. :-*
Just the figures to work on then ;) :)
-
That looks fantastic. The buildings and walls really add to the table layout rather than just being LoS blockers.
-
Looks really good
Love your buildings
-
This looks great :-*
-
Thanks gents :)

Many, many figures lol
-
Nice Project :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Nice painting on the figures, what other forces are you intending to add?
-
Brilliant :-*
-
Brilliant work James, well done.
-
Thanks again :)
what other forces are you intending to add?
For the game just the Japanese from my range here
http://www.oshiromodelterrain.co.uk/boxerfigures.html (http://www.oshiromodelterrain.co.uk/boxerfigures.html)
Some civvies from Darkest Africa ranges and as many Chinese as I can get painted.
I’m still practising my sculpting and when I’m happy enough I’ll start sculpting more figures for my range (Chinese, all the nations involved etc).
-
look great :)
-
Wonderful set up.
Did not realize that you have so many Chinese buildings on your site.
I may have to finish painting my Boxer Rebellion figures I stared in 1985. :D
Finally I might finish something I start. lol
-

I’m quite relieved to say that I don’t have any projects that old lol
-
Got the first figures completed, only several hundred to go lol

The banner isn’t wholly accurate but it’ll do for this until I get my own figures sculpted etc.
-
Stunning paint jobs and I love that Chinese village :-*
If you ever fancy taking a trip over the Severn Brigade, I'd like to take your boys on with my Reds.
-
Lovely, Ostland Chinese!
-
Lovely ;D
-
Great minis 8)
That’s some musket/rifle :o
-
Cheers fellas :)
That’s some musket/rifle :o
It’s called a jingal and was used as a small artillery piece and was quite often mounted upon walls or fortifications.
-
A peculiar weapon indeed, much like a punt gun I suppose!
-
The difference is that a punt gun is basically a giant shotgun, designed to hit as many ducks in flight at once as possible (not very bloody sporting if you ask me), whereas a jingal fires a single shot. The massive length supposedly is for accuracy and long range.
And yes, Jim is like a machine these days. Such productivity!
-
I don't see any reason why a jingal couldn't be loaded with scatter shot and vice versa (although a small artillery round to go duck hunting is a bit of an overkill lol).
And yes, Jim is like a machine these days. Such productivity!
It pays the bills :)
-
Agreed, but I don't know if they ever were used like that.
-
From what I've read, they weren't but I can't see why not in a friendly game. It would just take longer to reload.
I can though imagine some enterprising young Imperial officer seeing grape shot from a cannon from one of the powers and thinking "That's a good idea..."
-
Hi !
The jingals were used for skirmish
-
Nice set up and nice figs too. looking forward to seeing what else you come up with in terms of figures.
I quite fancy this as a wee project myself, using TMWWBK.
-
Very nice paint job on them :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks :)

We’ll be using a colonial version of Muskets and Tomahawks with a few adjustments for Chinese flavour.
-
Are you launching a range of minis for this?
-
I've not played Muskets and Tomahawks, what sort of numbers will you need to play?
-

Units vary from 6 - 12 figures, about five units a side gives a very nice two hour game.
We'll play at BLAM ;D
-
Well at the moment James you’ve got enough minis painted for a quick game using FFOL:HM
Though in true FFOL fashion you’d have to name all the characters.....
Phat Whon as the leader of the Rebels?
-

I've already got the Japanese (which were the largest contingent in the conflict) http://www.oshiromodelterrain.co.uk/boxerfigures.html (http://www.oshiromodelterrain.co.uk/boxerfigures.html) but I'm slolwy practising my sculpting to get the rest of the nations and Chinese underway.
Phat Whon as the leader of the Rebels?
Goes without saying lol
-
Interesting. I didn’t know the Japanese were the largest contingent. It’s the European Legation that springs to mind for me but I clearly know nothing lol (I think a Look & Learn article from the 1970s was probably my main source ;)).

You've never seen 55 Days at Peking?!
Its a good film, a fair amount of Hollywood artistic license, but it does capture the flavour of the siege I think.
-
It does give a great spring board into the conflict :)
-
I’ll see if I can track it down

Its on DVD, Oh I remember you don't buy those, coz its too much effort to load one into the machine lol

Love your work James.

Got another batch underway that’ll be done by the weekend.

How many will that bring the total to now?
-
Er, 12
lol
-
Cracking looking setup James
-
Er, 12
lol
lol
its a start lol
-
Did a re-count, it's 15 lol
-
How many figures are you planning?
-
For a good game of M&T preferably around 150-200 lol
-
Is that total or per side?
-
Chinese. The powers will have far less.
-

No sleep from now till Blam then! lol
-
Is that total or per side?
That’s a lot more than when we play M&T with F&IW. But I suspect the Boxers will die in droves as they are mostly armed with melee weapons and probably run away a lot so he’ll need lots!
-
That’s the general idea yes. Will take some play testing to get the feel right.
-
I know where there are a good few hundred painted Boxers :)
Show us sculpting Mr Machine
-
Finished the first unit and quite happy with them. The flags aren’t really historical but as there could’ve been as many as one in five-ten soldiers I’m going for the mass effect for these. Certainly need loads more lol
Polearm group next up I think.

Svennnnnn!
I’m borrowing Nick’s for the game ;)
No sculpting to show until I’m happy with them, still practising at the moment.
-
They're looking good though and the effect of a mass of flags should look spectacular on the table.
-
Now they look rather nice
-
Proper lush :-*
-
Cheers fellas :)
Just remembered I’ll ha e to get my technical pens out and scribble on the yellow circles.
-
lovely unit :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Looking good. Add another that'll love to see your sculpting progress (and if it's anything like your scratch building it can't be that bad).
-
Excellent unit mate!! ;) ;)
-
Thank you kindly gents :)
-
Ran a good few games at BLAM the other weekend. No report as such but there's bit of a write up on my blog and some pictures here to give you an idea.
I think I'll be doing this again with the regular chaps I game with and when that's done then I'll do a proper blow by blow account. Also thinking on how to expand this particular game and I reckon a railway line would be good :)

55 is a good film for inspiration but it’s always good to back it up with some history ;)
-
Beautiful terrain & figs!!!!
-
Wonderful terrain! Looks like a fun game, with some looking pictures.
-
Thanks :)
Got some more photos of figures. Most f them have been painted for a while but I realised I hadn't taken any decent photos of them.
Navel Brigade and some legation chaps.

Great pics there, Jim. The layout is very eye-catching, and you have some great action shots. Always good to see pics of well-painted troops moving in a picturesque landscape.
I'd like to hear the story from the opposition's side, though. If you're worried about these "other opinions" then I'd like to read them. lol

It always amazes me how people spin a story. ;) lol
The Japanese lost control of and the defence of the village, at the end of the game they were retreating! lol

Utter bloody rubbish. You had less than half a unit in one courtyard whereas I had two units; one at full strength, moving up the village to come and throw you out.
Bloody liar lol
-
Ha! The after-game bickering is always my favourite part of it when you guys game. Do please continue! :)
-
lol
Looks great! 8)

What a great spread.
Free to join you after next week ;)
