Got a little church to do for Dave Imrie. Preference was for bare stone and of course there are still a few details to do before painting. There will also be a little bell tower on the roof.

Yeah, the windows look brilliant.

Thanks chaps :)

Base coat is on and I've started on the little bell tower for the roof.

That’s very nice
What are the sheets you’re using for the walls?
-
Very nice. I like your solution for the corners. I was using milliput, but yours is much neater. I will give it a go.
(The sheet for the walls, afaict, Slaters Plastikard Dressed Stone 7mm Scale.)

8)

Thank chaps :)
Monkeylite, it's the 7mm Cotswold Stone Walling 7mm as it's a bit more random than the dressed stone :)
All the painting and details are done. Will be basing it next and also making a separate graveyard.

Lovely

Well that was quick!
What colours do you use for your stonework? Putting the extra weathering touches aside, it is just layers of grey drybrushed up, or am I missing something else? When I've painted stone walls before they come out a bit too blue-grey, and I'd prefer to get this sort of tone next time when I paint some more substantial buildings.
-
Your building painting always looks so good. It's annoying lol

He’s just annoying. :D
Nice church though :-*

Cheers fellas :)

Basic grey base coat then a few speckles of browns, dark and light greys. A wash of brown ink then a drybrush of lighter than base coat grey.

That's flipping lovely! Nice one
-
Looks great James - another expansion to Mr Imrie's medieval landscape.
Have been assembling bits to make medieval graveyard myself, so am following with immense anticipation (...for ideas to nick!!)
Simon.
-
Great little church. It could work for many periods. Like the painting, I've taken notes.
-
That is a lovely model and the colour looks spot on. And he’s not just quick, judging by all the other threads he’s bloody prolific as well!
And a useful reminder Humph, thanks.
-
Thank gents :)
Interesting info about the graveyard. I was assuming wooden crosses and the like because you don’t see any early versions at all.
I’ll pass the info on and see what David says. I know he wants it for multiple periods though so maybe a balance will be struck.
-
Looks good, as always :D
Just a question about your answer to Charlie on painting the stone work. You refer to greys but it looks much browner than that to me. Is it my monitor or were you talking about the roof?
I've just asked the oracle, Mrs V and she says it's grey and must be my eyes. o_o
-
Nice work :-*

Cheers chaps :)

It's probably the brown ink wash and weathering that throws it off a bit. I'm slightly colourblind myself but the basecoat was definitely grey :)

Simple yet effective! Classic mate! :-*
-
James - re graveyards...
These maybe of interest for you and Dave Imrie to chew over?
Note they're French and not English - taking Humakt's knowledge comments into account.

That is a fab looking church, worthy to receive any raiding party!
:o :o :o :o :o
-
Fabulous brush work Jim
Cheers
Matt
-
Great images. It's the ground level grave markers that I've seen in older graves too, so that makes sense.
-
Thanks for the comments chaps and it's good to see you back Matt :)
So, the base is on and I've done a couple of little hedge bits that will adjoin onto the graveyard. There will also be a separate hedge that will allow the graveyard to be used separately.

The base sets it off nicely. I like the little slabs on the side.
-
That is an excellent piece - the grave slabs work very well
-
Lovely James. What a beautiful piece. :-*
-
Thank you kindly gents :)
-
Rows of headstones could be separately based to add in for later periods. That's what I've done with mine. I've mixed in some older slab style ones too.
-
Very nice :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Loving the door detail in the fifth photo
-
Lovely build James :-*
-
As the graveyard is based separately, why don't you do two different graveyards? A medieval one, and one for later periods.
-
Cheers fellas :)

Dave only wants one (as far as I know).
-
Magnificent piece, so simple but beautiful at the same time, another on here I'm in awe of!
-
The base really brings it to life. :-* :-*
-
A wonderful piece of scenery. The colours and the basing make it really pop. :-* :-*
-
Lovely church. :-* :-* :-*
-
nice

Thank again fellas :)
Graveyard will be started this week.
