I've been hanging around here for quite some time now, so thought it was time to give something back/seek some external validation to prop up my self-esteem (delete as appropriate depending how cynical you are).
I'm both a slow painter and at best an average one so don't expect anything like the quality or frequency of many posters on here whose work serves as inspiration for many of us - but I hope to at least show some interesting things.
We'll start with an old plague cart, intended for skirmish or dragon rampant games. I didn't know this model existed until this year, and it was love at first sight. I have another waiting to be painted up. It was surprisingly tricky to assemble as the wheels don't fit at all snugly onto the axles (might be how I disassembled and stripped it, to be fair), and the weight of the corpse pile doesn't help. I had to (badly) pin the second cart hence it not yet being painted.
The basing is my first attempt at a 'wet' look using Mod Podge. I textured the base with milliput, painted it, then layered mod podge in the suitable looking areas. This'd probably be more effective with better planning and better skills (the wheel trails don't really work as intended to the point they might not even be noticeable).
Was a quick and enjoyable thing to paint though and for once I didn't worry too much about trying too hard, I just bashed it out so I can enjoy looking at it and occasionally playing with it (said the vicar).

That is a great model,good to see it with the original undead ox, a lot of them have a skeleton horse instead. You have done it nicely.
I think the wet look base is probably a bit too much, a surface that muddy would be all over the wheels of the cart and the legs of the beast (unless you are going with an ethereal idea like the old Warhammer undead cavalry) .
Maybe save some areas of it as is and sparsely glue static grass over the rest?

Robh that is a good point re the base. It wasn't I intended to look quite so muddy but now I'm torn between attempting to muddy the wheels and beast, or de-mud the base!

I have the cart as well. I like your bleached bone colours and it would be a shame to muddy it up :-)

A reaper bones spider!
Not much to say about this apart from it was quick (very quick for me!) to paint up, and fun too.

Your other work could benefit from simple washes and highlighting. For the bony figures, drybrushing after a wash chould bring easy & instant success. You really should try it out. :)

I do highlight and wash, though perhaps I'm not being brave enough with contrast. Although I like quite a muted look on purpose.
My process for the bones is roughly:
Bleached bone (or similar) base colour
Wash with black
Highlight up with ivory or white, potentially with a mix of bleached bone as mid-highlights if I can be bothered. I've been painting bones this way for a long long time so although others have better recipes, I am happy with mine as it means consistency!
I think the photos from my phone aren't doing the models justice - which is not to say they're great attempts, just that I think there's more contrast in person than is coming out in the pics.

A new addition below. Ral Partha 'female assassin'. I'm pretty pleased with the skin considering it's very rare for me to paint it, and I feel like I'm getting better with each model.

A nice figure that I have wanted, and Johnny Laukk of Mega Miniatures had the rights to the molds until he folded up shop. Not sure who has it now.

Great stuff. I love that first plague cart mini, I also have it with the ox in one piece too (I 3d printed a yoke for the ox though) Looking forward to seeing more OOP goodness!

Beefcake - most of the things I paint are (or will be...) still in production, albeit as we see here in many cases not with the original rights holders! I do have a substantial number of OOP GW models to get around to. Perhaps over the years I can grow this thread to the amazing proportions shown by some of the long-standing posters here.

Amen. Your posting of the RPE info made me look closer at the Lost Minis Wiki entry, and evidently she is still in production n this side of the pond from Turnkey Miniatures. I've been wanting to get some of their villagers, so this is a fortuitous discovery! I thinnk she is a bit smaller tan contemporary 28mm, so hopefully she scales well with my true 25's.

Interesting the rights to this figure are held concurrently by two different companies, but I guess the geographic realities allow for that.

A resin mini from Black Scorpion. This was just smashed out with contrast paint in one evening which is very rapid for me. It's a great mini and an OK-at-best paint job but at arms length on the board I'm perfectly happy with it for time invested!

A bad squiddo viking (again mostly contrast paint!), and some friends of hers. The half-orc is from alternative armies. The pack pony is a reaper bones model which I blitzed just to have a pack pony available if I need one!
The giant rats are intended for Rangers of Shadow Deep and are again reaper bones done with contrast paint.

Well, I forgot to keep updating this, so here are some new additions, not necessarily recent!
A cyclops from Forge of Ice, via Fenris Games. Didn't turn out how I envisaged it...but it'll do!
Some captives from (I think) Midlam Miniatures. Not a lot to say about these, they didn't take very long and will do nicely for scenarios.

Some giant rats and swamp zombies from Black Tree Design and thus ex Harlequin I believe.
These are unusual in that they took me less time to paint than they took to arrive :D
The zombies are done with contrast paint and washes and were quite an experiment for me. I'm happy enough with the result!

Zombies look great! I like that they are not as dark as you'd expect for the undead.

Unsurprisingly I've been a bit more productive during lockdown. Here are some bandits, generic desperate folk wihh poor equipment for use as baddies in D&D, Spellswords, etc.
A mix of Midlam and GW.
Let's not mention that they took me months to paint at my slow and easily distracted pace... Only for me to realise there are 17 of the buggers which is practically a whole Warhammer unit, no wonder it took so long! Again contrast paints because I just wanted these done rather than trying to do my best work.

Been a while since I posted!
Harlequin goblins, painted in the colours of the Blue Cursed (a faction in my D&D campaign).
An acropolis minis nightwatchman - just a quick lazy contrast paint job again!
And a Mirliton guardian dragon (well, no wings, so probably a wyrm or something...)
Special Guest Appearance dire dogs (Nolzur's I think?)

18 months since last post?! Although it's possible I just can't do maths. ;D
These items don't represent 18 months worth of output... just some things I finished lately and took shots of tonight!
First up, some Foundry scarecrows. Started for a halloween game last year... based up last night. Go figure.

Next, some 3d printed villagers that I slapped Army Painter speed paint onto. It... it reactivates. No bones about it. Still, the villagers are only there to act as NPCs and be rescued, slaughtered, etc.. lol
Also some Reaper bones bug swarms.
Followed by some Foundry harpies. I really like these despite doing a very rushed job with contrast paint. They just look...leathery.

Lastly for now...
A 3d printed wagon. I have plans for a sort of diorama for which I'll need something like 4 or 5 more 'caravan' type wagons. So, will be ready in about 10 years o_o
And finally, my favourites of the batch - two of my D&D characters.
Issara, a yaun-ti who got lost somewhere in the jungles of Chult
Cara, Cardinal of Procan, a cleric from Geoff (in the Greyhawk setting) whose party just slew Demogorgon and prevented the savage tide from sweeping the continent. Bittersweet as that's the first time I've played to the end of a campaign, but a satisfactory denouement. Cara will return for side-quests later...

Somehow, after a gap of about twenty years, I find myself very much into Fantasy skirmish gaming once more. So threads like these are meat and drink to me right now. Cheers.
If you don't mind me asking, who makes that fairy type character with the lyre? (I'm not super familiar with all the ranges out there these days) It's a really nice figure and you've done a good job on it.

Those are great figures! I like the scenes you set up in the pics. I interpreted them as “death pixie serenading her previous victims”, and “hydra trainer trying to coax the nervous beast across a bridge”.

It's a 3d print from Vae Victis' patreon. In my eyes they have a nice old-ish school aesthetic without too many details (a lot of 3d prints are over-done imo).

Those look excellent! I like the older Reaper sculpts, they take me back to the Ral Partha and Grenadier figs I had in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s (and I think some are by the same sculptors - Sandra Garrity or Julie Guthrie, maybe?)
The cockatrice is great, too- there’s something about a giant death-rooster that’s oddly appealing!

The fighters above are indeed Sandra Garrity sculpts, and funnily enough I recently went on a bit of a kick collecting both Guthrie and Garrity models. I've no nostalgia for them, I ain't old enough (sorry lol), I just really like the aesthetic.
