Title: Cavalry ACW 28 mm
Post by: Khmorg on September 29, 2018, 01:58:28 PM
Hi
This is a big project dedicated to cavalry in the American Civil War. I will be very happy with any remarks ranging from historical pre-faithness and ending with anatomical inaccuracy.

So Announcement!

Horses Confederates and weapons for cavalrymen.

I do not know when Kickstarter will be, but I know for sure that there will be Confederates and Union soldiers in both summer and winter uniforms, soldiers with carbines, sabers, pistols, 4 men of the command division (standard bearer, commander, bugler and sergeant) and ... .cavalrymen on foot !!!

Fantastic news Khmorg.
Really looking forward to these.
I think this will tip me back into 28mm ACW.

Forgot to ask - some of your earlier infantry are marked as "second edition"
Are these available yet for sale and if so where from ?
Many thanks

very nice and fantastic progress.
Just a couple of points made in a positive spirit (!)
(1) Do the horses seem a bit tall for the figures somehow ?
(2) I don't think you have quite captured the shape and barrel length of the civil war revolver.
But these will no doubt be super figures in the end.

So here are the new figures and the old figures that I have finalized.
Please express your opinion.

I have another request. Tell me which flag is best for them?

For flags, please have a look here:

At this page, the first and second flags shown are Confederate Cavalry flags and the 10nth is Jeb Stuart's personal flag.

Here
http://www.warrioronline.demon.co.uk/flags/acw_conf_flags_3.htm
The last two are cavalry flags, you can guess the relative size in comparison with infantry flags, if this helps.
I have read them in some books I had, but I was hugely involved in my ACW project before 2000.
My project was in 10mm so I had not to be so accurate with sizes, but when we speak about 28mm, we must be.
I promise to run back to my sources and tell you about the actual sizes.

Ok, I have the answer, I contacted a good friend of mine, professional painter who is painting especially 28mm.

All the the given sizes below, concern the flag opened, spread double sided at length, plus the space that takes the flag pole.

According to Perry brothers:
The cavalry pennon of the North is 3,5 cm length and 1 cm height.
For Confederacy, the battle flag of the N.Virginia is 3,1 length by 1,3 height
The Confederate cavalry pennon is 3,5x1,1 cm.

Hope these help. Cheers!

If it's not too late, I'd suggest leaving off the breastplates and cruppers. Inventories suggest they were both quite rare.

First of all - many thanks for your comment.
Your comment makes me think. I am very pleased that my work did not leave you indifferent.

About the size of horses. Yes, I know that real horses are somewhat different. But the size of 28 mm is always a little cartoon. I made horses to fight the cavalry of the most likely enemy :-) the Perry brothers cavalry.
If you make a horse as it really is, then this horse will be smaller than that of the brothers.

I can make any horse !!! Even the horse of the breed that was most often used in the war !!!!

I'm perfectly fine with the larger horses as well. They look like they're taken right off the field. ;)

I really like the shotguns/carbines slung around their backs. If I was to find anything to critizise I think that maybe the hats are a bit small on some of the guys? Like the left- and rightmost ones of the dismounted cav? Maybe it's just the angle though.

Anyway, admirable work all around so far.

The cavalry officer, bugler and sergeant are excellent sculpts, I like also the dismounted figures.
I have only one small objection, I believe the scabbards should be more slim.

This is my latest topic (I constantly think about the size of horses). Perry has metal and Perry has plastic and horses in metal are fewer than horses in plastic. I will make a choice of both large and smaller horses. otherwise I just can't sleep at night. It will seem to me that I did not the right horses.

Yes !!! There will be a complete set for cavalry. Everything is under development.
Please tell us more about householders. I am from Russia and it is important for me to know all the features.

And I beg you. Please tell us about the group of Buford.

The plans are to make the Indians in the service of the confederation leading the persecution.

One point of clarification, the Cherokee (American Indians) will be leading a PURSUIT, not a persecution. Dmitry, is to be commended on his command of the English language but that statement didn’t quit translate.

Dmitry, will be making mounted and dismounted horse holders.

They look beautiful.

One small request, which might broaden the range of applicability into the 1860s and 1870s.

Would it be possible to have some where the sabers are detatchable, so you can represent soldiers who discarded their saber in favor of extra revolvers or just not to carry the extra weight? It would also work for mounted infantry.

Thank you for comment

At the moment, the miniatures of the soldiers do not have interchangeable heads and arms.

On the one hand, this does not allow for changing weapons and heads, but on the other hand, the miniature made by one not divisible part is very durable.
And these soldiers can serve for a long time by bringing victories to their army !!!

These are getting better and better. Some nice kneeling ring and loading poses are essential too.
I am hopeless at adding pictures but if you Google Buford at gettysburg you will find some nice images of the man. Would be nice to have a scene of him, an aide, and a couple of different ensigns/guidon berates all mounted, surveying the scene. When do you hope to have these out or will it be another kickstarter ?

Really looking forward to the Kick-starter.

Still think some small command groups would be ideal to finish off the cavalry range, notably a little group of three or four figures to represent Buford and another of an ACW-era of Custer.

What about a few vignette'scenes eg surgeon and wounded; figures loading/unloading a wagon or whatever ?

fantastic sculpts and getting better and better.

Interested in this but I don't think your figure totals add up - some levels seem to be based on packs of four mounted figures , others seem to be based on packs of three. Either I am stupid (quite possible) or you need to proof read it again (;-) JM

You have had a long break Dmitry!  :D  So who are these fine chaps?

I was on a trip, but I am back.

These are cavalrymen of a confederation in a summer uniform.
And they have
Confederate States 11-Star "Civil War Reunion" Guidon Flag and
Flag 2nd Kentucky Cavalry (Morgans raiders)

one of the cavalrymen is armed with a Kentucky rifle with a capsule lock

These are fantastic - just wonder the hand holding the standards on a. couple are at slightly the wrong angle.
When are these beauties going to be on sale ? How will they be broken down into individual packs ?

Thanks so much for your feedback. There will be additions to the Confederates.
In the future I will attach a photo of the standard-bearers with banners.

These will be available online in February 2020. ( I know that sounds far off, but it really isn't in manufacturing
terms)

The commands packs will contain: 2 officers, 2 standards, 2 NCOs and 2 musicians (buglers).

Thank you for the continued support!

If I may, a bit 'off your topic' but can you give us a brief description of the historical miniatures hobby in Russia?  Popular and widespread?  Affordable or limited to those who can afford it?  This is pure curiosity.  I know there are people in Russia in the hobby - obviously, like you - but I have no sense of how popular it is there.  Thanks!

Thanks for the question.
I will tell based on my experience.
Thumbnail engaged in leaning to my taste. There is a Warhammer club in my city.
I prefer a historical miniature. Through the Internet, famous miniature manufacturers have no problems with orders. I'm a fan of Copplestone !!!
Basically, miniature is expensive for the mass consumer.
I sculpt a miniature for myself! Or I convert the figures of others. (Out of Perry's infantry box, almost 100 soldiers are obtained).
I communicate with people like me via the Internet.
Sometimes I am invited to give lectures for children at school. For lectures, I use paper miniatures and try to attract low cost. (My last lecture was postponed to the fall due to a virus .... I wanted to talk about Alma ....)
