Title: Warzone Resurrection is Finished.
Post by: Inso on October 03, 2018, 06:46:18 PM
I found out today that Warzone Resurrection (produced by Prodos Games) will cease sale and production on 9th October this year (that's 6 days away).

It is going because they no longer have the license.

I found this out when I got an email mentioning a 30% off sale of the miniatures.

If you collect these... get your orders in fast because after that, it will be other stockists, while stocks last... probably at a higher price.

I am a little bit annoyed because I don't have the funds for what I would like to buy (Vulkans) and would have preferred a little more notice... DAMN!

To be honest it was hinted for many months..

Game authors said some time ago that they need 100K $ or will have to abandon..

It was inevitable to be honest.

Nothing is "inevitable".
GW is still around despite...well, everything about them.

I kind of like the Warzone figures, but not enough to pay that price. I bet others felt the same.
Also, tying yourself to a specific rule set today is an iffy proposition.

Wait, I read on the Dakkadakka thread about the very same news that the Cabinet company (which I understood owns the IP?) was going to continue the game with another miniatures manufacturer?

Edit; this is what I read:
Quote
Cabinet via Twitter just announced game is not dead. They will continue to produce rules and minis working with other companies.

I wish I'd seen it :( .

The email I got today basically said all production of Warzone Resurrection miniatures will cease but they will still produce free update for rules etc...

Prodos will be turning their attention to a new game...

I think that some of the miniatures were excellent but the scale didn't help the range. I like the Vulkans and some of the vehicles but the miniatures don't really fit in with anything else I had so I didn't get any.

I'll be sad to see the demise of this range but there you go :( ...

Prodos had this to say about the issue on September 25:

Wasn't able to locate the rumored tweet from Cabinet Entertainment.

Wasn't able to locate the rumored tweet from Cabinet Entertainment.

I can't even find their Twitter account, much less any twitterings. Someone on the Dakkadakka thread was unsuccessfully asking for a link to it too.

from the prodos annuncement of its new game ...
Quote
A fast-paced, action, skirmish wargame in 32mm scale, set in a dystopian science-fantasy universe. Starcide reaches between the realms of sci-fi and fantasy with a dazzling variety of factions to select from including:
Legion of the Black Sun (blood-thirsted vampires and Soul-rending necromancers), Empire of Man (Unified Noble Houses of mankind) , Na'vo (cold-blooded reptiles), Prometheans (a human-like Psionic race), and the Locust (deadly insectoids with biotechnological space travel).

so, derivative of every other sci-fantasy game then ... sighs

dystopian... science-fantasy... vampires ... necromancers... reptiles ... psionics ... insects...

Oh, and the attached pictures of the humans appear to be modified WW1 german uniforms an dplenty of trenchcoats...Necromancers with long staff-like weapons... snakemen with inexplicably heavily aroured upper torsos but otherwise naked an vulnerable tails. Large headed psionic creatures (with tentacles... cos you have to put tentacles on one of the races right?)

The human walkers look good and the promethans will do a good job as evil warlike grey aliens at least

Between this, how derivative their new game looks and the possibility of losing the AvP Liscence (Disney/Fox merger) Prodos will probably be out of business soon I i suspect, a shame since their sculpts are nice.

The fist couple of factions looks ok but the other two don't do much for me.

I guess that's the problem with a licence. Maybe in the end Warzone will just have been the stepping stone to their own game but we will just have to see what happens.

I think Warlords ‘Beyond The Gates Of Antares is the current title holder for least inspiring sci-fi game universe.

But perhaps this new challenger can take the throne!

Warlord? With Rock-people and tripod battle suits? Lots of drones (including transport vehicles and tanks)... parasitic aliens... I don't think that is particularly uninspiring... not when you have Mantic around. That's just going by what the miniatures are like, not the rules... but I don't tend to look too much into the rules, more the miniatures... I quite like a lot of Warlord's stuff... I don't find it particularly uninspiring but I guess it's horses for courses :) .
