Some of those sculpts are real turds, and yet I have the urge to buy the lot! :D

Great fun, esp. the mummy and the Ripper sets!

Most of them look really awful. There's much better stuff available I think.

I tend to agree with matakishi, but I guess its all a matter of taste! :)

For every one "Interesting Sculpt" there are 5 or 6 dire ones!
If they sold them separately I might cherry pick some decent ones, but fat chance of that.

I think there are some dodgy ones in amongst them, they kind of remind me of the Mega minis and some of the early Cthulu figures in sculpting style. However I dont think the painted versions on the background does them any favours to be honest.

I think the problem is Bob Naismith sculpted them. He knows how to use putty, but I think his talents have not progressed since the early years in miniatures design.

Some of these are good but I think most are not. He did the same thing with the Starship Troopers stuff and his own lines (as well as too many to list)

Oh well, that's what Copplestone, Artizan, Foundry and Pulp Miniatures are for. :)

I think there are some nice ones around. Particular the Frankenstein set and the Werewolve set are nice. The painting and layout surely doesn't help them and I don't understand the reason for that rim on the precast bases which I had preferred to be seperate to be honest. I'm very curious to see how the castings look when you have them in hand. Since they fit to the Westwind ones in size they are a great addition to the victorian figures already out there.

Actually, I really like the mummy set, except for the chap with the poofy pants and shotgun. The Werewolves are horrible.

The rest I think aren't that good but I also think that besides the sculpting, there is probably some intent maybe to have them look this way? Probably ti fit the theme better. I don't know.

Either way, some are good, some are bad. I do agree Tom, I hope those bases aren't permanent.

Is it just me or do some of them looing like drawings of what the miniatures will look like and not actual miniatures? I particular, look at the mummy set. All the figures have an ink line around them. This doesn't appear on the other figures.

I believe you are correct. The mummy set is artist rendering.

It's funny how subjective this all is. The figures most people are complaining about is the werewolves and I absolutely love that middle werewolf.

The mummy set has had the lines added, probably so the whiter figures didn't look too flat against the background when it was added.

Could be a photoshop thing

Jup, I agree, looks like the "artist" added a 1px center stroke to make the minis stand out more.

Those minis give the term "a mixed lot" a whole new meaning...

I'd have thought the same thing, however it was done on all the figures in the Mummy range and not on any figure in any of the other ranges (even those that were white like the mummies.)

I've worked in Photosjop quite a bit and they just don't seem like they are the actual miniatures.

And I'm not looking to find fault, it just seems odd and I'm trying to satisfy my own curiosity.

I think that interpretations go a bit to far, I suppose the one who edited the pictures simply changed the method. The images don't look very professional and I even get the imression that the relative size of the minaitures vary within the pictures. This can happen if you make seperate photos and then paste everything in one image.

I got some of these figures as samples today and I'm glad I can tell you the actual castings look much better than the boxart suggests. The sculpting is very classic like old Reaper or RAFM style from 10 or so years ago. This suits the background very well, at least for my taste. Detail is excellent, clear and crisp, good facial expressions especially for the females with many of them looking rather cute.
The flow of the clothing is also good and the slightly caricature style fits the bill.

Also a positive surprise it the size, the figures easily match up with todays standards with the average human being 28mm feet to eye. Size varies with females often a touch smaller and thinner than males and special figures like the Mummy come to a whooping 35mm feet to head. Bases are rougly 3mm high so you need to add this to the size.
Also very good is the headless horseman including his horse.

Bases are cast on as it was announced. The texture is sculpted on and varies from figure to figure, most have sand, some have wooden planks or cobblestone. Personally I'd have prefered the bases as cast extras with the option to use different bases for them but as complete one piece castings they save the extra basing work and you can start with preping and painting right on.
I'm still not clear on the rim that is part the bases (painted black in the pictures) and would have prefered them without this feature.

Considering the US pricetag of 26USD a set with the option to save 40% using an armycard they are a steal and worth every cent considering the overall quality.

Thanks for the review Tom.
Any idea if Battlefield Berlin is going to stock them?

No idea since I don't know who will distribute them in Europe. I suppose OG UK.
