From now on, I'll put the latest issue of my comic here, rather than start a new thread each time. I'd change the title of my previous thread, but I'm not sure how!
Anyway, this issue has Sir Norvan and company looking for survivors from last issue, and features my Dwarven Forge Cavern terrain. Dedicated to Dave Arneson. Hope you like it!
-
~And the rest~
-
Good report, terrain and figures! I am impressed with the time it must take to photograph and present a game like this.
-
I really like this stories. The figures and terrain are so cool. The Frogmen, especially the ones with slings are my favourites.
-
I enjoy seeing these. To modify the main subject heading click modify in the first post and then alter the subject heading and save.
-
Thanks for the kind words, guys!
Ethelred - it does add a bit of time to the gaming. I have done this both solitaire and with a group. I get better shots solitaire, of course, since I don't have to kick friends out of the way. I am getting better with the Comic Life software - this last issue took me about three hours to put together.
Tungdil - I don't think we've seen the last of the frogmen. They will want revenge for their temple being defiled, and once word gets out that there is a massive jade idol in Greywater, there might be few looters...
Elk101 - that sounds so easy that even I can do it!
If anyone wants to catch up on the early issues, or has an interest in Swords & Sorcery in general, check out my blog!

Sounds good to me. It's a cool way for storytelling, especially because figures are used.
-
Hurrah, glad to see the latest issue and enjoyed it muchly. It is good that two of the Order have been saved.
-
Great stuff!
I am never focused enough on the photography as a DM, so much else to do. I'm lucky if I get a few photos at the start and at the finish.
Keep up the good work!
-
The old school spirit lives and breathes here! Large parties, deadly dungeons, meaningful exploration... impressive stuff. Had a great time reading.
-
I appreciate the nice words!
boneio - we're gonna find out what happened to the last two very soon!
PhilB - Yeah, it's definitely at the bottom of things to focus on when GMing, but the photography is pretty easy when playing solitaire.
Spooktalker - more exploration next issue!
-
Excellent stuff and story - loved it.
-
Thank you, Vagabond! Hope you like the struggles to come.
-
A short wait between issues this time! The images on my blog are higher resolution, but here is the issue in its entirety.
Hope you enjoy!

And the last 4 pages...
-
Cool story again. I really like your figures and your dungeon/cave terrain. Thanks for sharing.
-
That is a WONDERFUL way to present your imaginative & entertaining games, AND a FINE way to showcase your SPLENDID miniatures. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Enjoyed the new episode, thanks for creating and sharing! Nicely done environments, such as the stairway on page 8. Overall, an inspiring thread.
-
Wow! You certainly have one heck of a lot of Dwarven Forge goodness!
Keep it up!
-
Thanks, everybody! Positive feedback is a good thing! lol
Tungdil - there are a few more old figures still to come, and at least one more environment. Glad you like the figs and terrain you've seen so far. Most of the dungeon and caverns have been Dwarven Forge, but the green-stone halls belonging to the snacas are from Galladoria Games, from when they were named Forge Prints; it was the Alchemist's Chamber from their kickstarter, with my color scheme.
Deaf Nala - Thanks for the kind words, I'm heartened that you like the comics. They are fun to put together. In fact, there is a mushroom cavern that will be making an appearance soon, though they will lack the beauty and character of your creations!
Spooktalker - your threads have been an inspiration to me while I lurked over the years, so glad I could return the favor in some small portion!
PhilB - I loaded up during their first two kickstarters, when I had a bit of extra cash. I painted it all myself, which allowed me to buy more at the time. Their last few kickstarters have been more expensive - the dwarvenite now seems as expensive as their resin terrain. I went in a little bit, to add some variety, but it is amazing on their own forums looking at how much people are spending on the latest kickstarter. The average seems to be about $3,000, and a few have gone all in, which was over $7,000. More power to them, but there is no way I could have all that set up at the same time!
-
OK, been a while for a lot of RL reasons, but here is the latest issue of the Greywater Chronicles. Hope you all enjoy!
Deaf Nala - there was too much happening in this issue to squeeze in the interaction with the Shrooms, so it will be in the next. But they do show up in the last panel, like the villains of old in Marvel Comics!
This will be broken up over 3 posts for ease of uploading or downloading, whichever it is.

YESSSS! Always so happy to see new episodes :)
Very enjoyable, as usual. Those mushrooms look creepy.
-
Wonderful.
Great to see Sorcerer Xo still adventuring after all these years, survivor of an iconic line.
-
Very enjoyable reading. Thanks for taking the time to share!
-
Hey, boneio,
Glad you enjoyed the issue; there should be another one in a week or so. The Shroom Men are from the immensely talented and demented Deaf Nala! They cut loose next issue!
robh,
Appreciate it, buddy! Yeah, Sorcerer Xo is a favorite of mine! He told me to say that he is glad of your recognition of his awesomeness!
Rick W.,
Glad you like it! I don't bring nicely painted lead to the table, but hopefully I can live up to the adventure part of Lead Adventure!

OK, after the horrors of the mushroom forest, the party is looking for a leisurely stroll through some catacombs...
Issue 9!

And the third movement:
-
Great couple of episodes! Of course it was inevitable that someone would read the tomb :D
It's been asked before I'm sure but what rules do you use to play this?
-
Wonderful, well worth the 25 cents!
-
robh,
Thanks! I may have to raise the price to 30 cents at some point, but I hate to appear greedy.
boneio,
Glad you liked the issues! I am wanting to dig into Sir Norvan's party as they hit the third level, but the rogues that survived the battles around Shades' Hollow are about to enter Sublevel 1A of Greywater, and I am curious to see what happens to them. Not sure where I'm going next.
The rules I use are a bastardization of the old The Fantasy Trip rules, called Legends of the Ancient World. TFT just got republished, but I'm sticking with LAW. You can get them for free here, if you are interested.
http://www.darkcitygames.com/docs/Legends.pdf
Note - I am a partner in Dark City Games, but I am not trying to sell you anything - honest! The rules are very simple and bare bones, and I have some house rules.

INSPIRING WORK! That is a WONDERFULLY imaginative, captivating way to present a battle report. The narrative, scenery, AND miniatures are superb in their own ways. VERY WELL DONE!

Hope you saw your Mushroom Men in Issue #8!

Hope you saw your Mushroom Men in Issue #8!
I did indeed. It is wonderful seeing the Lads involved in a game...far superior to sitting unseen in a box.
It looks like you made the most of their poses for the narrative.
-
The next issue has been published! And it seems we took a quick break from Norvan's quest to see what happened with the losers from the Shades' Hollow comics, and their excursion into the megadungeon. And so...here are the Rat Bastards!

Yeah, I was bummed about Sir Norvan. I hope Aramaim can lead the rest out!
-
The latest issue has bounced off the pavement!
We try to pick up some pieces from last issue's triumph and tragedy! Aramaim takes charge! The Rat Bastards worm into the picture with some quick loot schemes! We meet a certain merchant who can't keep his kids straight! And a conspiracy seems to be forming against our fractured band of heroes!

No way, man. Totally reminds me of what it is like to PLAY. The way we did when we were kids, when it was fun and not so serious. The dialogue, the cast of recurring characters and references back to previous exploits, I love it all. I don't know how much time it takes to write up your games, but I appreciate the efforts from the very bottom of my heart. This is like a time machine for my younger self, if I had my more grown up sense of humor, of course lol

Thank you, Rick! Glad you like the silliness.
I was pretty happy with the D&L stuff. Took a while to paint, as there is a lot of detail if you want to pick it out. I did make a mistake when spraying on the base coat - I got the pins/nubs with paint, and they were too thick to go into the holes on the clips. Very little tolerance. I x-actoed off the paint on the nubs, so no big deal ultimately. But when you paint your batch, I'd recommend wrapping a bit of tape over the nubs if you are spray-painting on a primer/base coat.
-
Thanks for the heads up on that!

I was just wondering when I'd get another of these reports to read! Feels like it has been a while. Totally worth the wait though.
If you haven't mentioned it before, what is the source of your terrain?
-
I was just wondering when I'd get another of these reports to read! Feels like it has been a while. Totally worth the wait though.
If you haven't mentioned it before, what is the source of your terrain?
Hey buddy, glad you enjoyed the issue! Thanks for the kind words!
I have a few different sources for my terrain. Primarily it is Dwarven Forge, the dwarvenite (as opposed to resin) from the first two kickstarters. That's the stone dungeon and cavern stuff. I painted rather than having the factory do it. It is pretty much only available from the company, and their stocking situation is hit or (more often) miss.
For the space station with the flayers in this issue, that is from the Dungeons and Lasers Kickstarter campaign, from Archon Studios, their standard sci fi set. They are getting ready for their third Kickstarter campaign in a few weeks, featuring fantasy village stuff. It looks like you can order their old dungeons with that, but not their sci fi.
The green stone area that is the fourth seal, with the two flayers talking, it was the "Path to El Dorado" kickstarter from Lunes D"Argent Workshop, a Canadian company. They do both Egyptian and this MesoAmerican stuff. The pieces are kinda fragile, but they easily glue back together. They are actually less green in real life, there is an interaction here between the UV lighting and the camera. They have a website that they sell their stuff on, it is pretty reasonable.
The buildings in the opening are from different manufacturers. Some Pegasus Hobbies stone huts, and some Conflix buildings, both pre-painted. I think those are all out of production, now. There are also a couple of buildings you can't see as well from Ender Toys, a print company with stuff on Amazon. Their stuff is kinda rough (print lines visible), but cheap.
I think that's everything in this issue, but I have used some other terrain in the previous issues. I used the Ender Toys dungeons, they're not horrible but not much cheaper than DF. The crypt stuff in Issue 9 is no longer available from Secret Weapon Miniatures, but the designer has the rights and will make them available again, though it has been over a year. Dark Arts miniatures.
Some of the outdoor stuff is old Heroscape, others are just green cloth.
Did I miss anything? Let me know!
-
Nope, you hit the pieces I was wondering about. The DF stuff has a lot of "not DF" copycats out there. Most of it under OpenLock printable sources.
It all looks beautiful. Now I'm curious just how much you have!? lol
-
lol
Too much!
-
This issue is a month late - they tell me it got stuck in the Suez Canal!

YET ANOTHER WONDERFULLY witty & entertaining Adventure. OUTSTANDING STUFF!
Hey, Al, thanks so much! I live for bolded feedback!
-
Awesome!
Out of curiosity, do you keep track of what the dungeon levels look like?
Thanks, amigo, I appreciate it!
I mapped out most of Greywater over 20 years ago, but the maps all got trashed (along with some other projects I had) due to a leaking window when Hurricane Isabel hit in 2003. All the layouts I've done in the Chronicles are from memory. It was a pretty big place!
But you've got me wondering if maybe I should re-map everything. I kinda shudder at that prospect, but this version of Greywater is only 7 levels, while the old one was 11.
-
I've been trying to map out some of my city crawling for a post apoc game, and my planet crawling for a sci-fi game. The city is tricky because the roads need to line up (like tunnels). That is unless each area has some vague "in-between" space. My planet crawling is basically snapshots of a planet, but I don't try to detail all the stuff in between. Town, farm, crashed ship, etc. No worries about stairs up/down, tunnel intersections, and so forth.
The kid in me has a real affinity for drawing complex dungeon maps. I probably spent three times as much effort drawing maps as actually playing D&D. lol
-
lol
I don't think you were alone with the map-making vs time playing ratio! And yeah, I enjoy map-making a lot, too, but I've been a bit more lax about it with the current iteration of Greywater.
Wow, the planet-crawl sounds cool. Would it be for some characters that crash-landed, and need to find their way offworld? Snapshots would make a lot of sense with larger distances.
With the post apoc, makes sense to do it the same kinda way, I would think, around whatever locations you want to do for the campaign. No real need to have the locations in a big city adjoin, unless you anticipate action at any potential point in the city. Maybe use the map of an actual large city to get the street layouts, if so?
-
That sound of screeching tires is the comic delivery truck dropping off the latest issue of the Greywater Chronicles. He still has a few more stops to make before the clock strikes August!

Lovely stuff…..death most fowl eh….well at least he wasn’t chicken ;D
This whole situation is a fine example of why one shouldn't go swanning around in a dungeon. Those places are dangerous, one careless move and your goose is cooked. Adventuring is for the birds if you ask me.
-
Killing me that work has been too busy to settle in and read this yet. Definitely on my list of break time activities as soon as a break shows itself! Well, one longer than it takes to send a short, lamenting, reply lol

Hey, Andrew, maybe it's a good thing work is humming, eh? I hope you don't have a longer lamenting reply after getting a chance to read the issue!
-
Great episode. My favorite was actually the door-to-door conversion of followers. "But have you ever REALLY read the Necronomicon?!" lol
Good to see Jim back on his feet. All that bone scraping on stone sets my teeth on edge! And with fancy new armor. Score.
-
Thanks, Andrew! Poor Barnabus isn't faring very well with his appeal to people's reading comprehension or his flowers...we'll see what he tries next. We'll have to see what the two cult leaders who went to the city try as recruiting tactics...
Jimmy's kinda got it going on right now. The new sword is actually enchanted, too. We'll find out if Lady Goldenlocks gets a bit too clingy...
Glad you enjoyed the issue!

Ha! Loving it as always. Poor Stu though. Greywater is a tough place.
Thanks, Rick! Yeah, Greywater has seen non-stop casualties since Issue #1. I made the decision then not to do any resurrection-magic, as I have so many figures I've gotten over the years and they all need face time! Heh. But I have lost a lot of characters I like.
So long, Stu!

Hey, Andrew, I appreciate the nice words.
Yeah, the big battle was absolute mayhem. There actually was one more survivor; I think that'll be revealed next issue. But this was probably the highest body count of all the issues so far.
Nice summation on enemies and janitors! lol

I've put the first 25 issues of the comic in their entirety on the LAF. But I am going to try to drive more traffic to my blog. So I hope you'll forgive me if from now on I just post a few teaser pages and then link to the rest at my corner of the web.
I hope you all have enjoyed reading the GC, and will continue to enjoy it!
Thanks for all your support and comments!
So in this issue we pick up some frayed plot threads, and see where some of the survivors from last issue ended up. And the nilithids decide to get serious...

Thanks so much, Rick!
I have figured out the embiggen thing now, so if a picture looked cluttered before, that definitely ain't the case anymore when you click on a page!

I LOVE your cartoon narrations. It is role playing as it was meant to be. OUTSTANDING STUFF once more!
-
Can't wait to read and catch up! Maybe later in the week.

Thanks, Al! That means a lot to me.
Aramaim's band might be going through another mushroom forest when she hits the 5th level...where we might see some of our old mushroom friends again!

Cool, Andrew! Hope you like it when you get a chance to check it out!

Got a chance to read through. Fantastic as always. A few observations, if I may...
1) Any codpiece is edible if you are brave enough.
2) I love the ongoing reference to the Necronomicon as bathroom reading material. I don't know why, but that makes me laugh. As a non-religious type who met his wife at a religious youth group, I would like to see someone who doesn't believe in the Necronomicon, but attended some sacrifices to meet the ladies lol
3) I assume that we will soon learn that the maternity leave benefit is something like four days of unpaid leave and nobody is going to do her work while she is out so that it piles up in her guild cubicle.

Hey, Andrew, thanks for following the action over to my blog. I really appreciate it, as well as the feedback. All observations are welcome!
Some thoughts:
1) That is probably accurate, but testing that hypothesis exceeds my bravery threshold.
2) I think you just gave Malvo an idea (he's been kinda bitter since he struck out with that medusa)...
3) The maternity leave thing worked on Rodrigo, too, evidently (maybe he thinks if he is directly involved, it covers him...not sure he read the fine print). We'll see if the comic lasts long enough for it to be applied...
Thanks for the comments, man!

Well, I had a hard drive crash and had insufficiently backed up my info. Long story short, lost almost all of my old comics. I had been working on Issue 27 and was almost done when things went south. It costs a lot of money to do hard drive recovery, so I am in limbo right now. I have a new job that takes all my time and pays very little, but at least I've lost 40 pounds. But I have done very little gaming or painting the last year.
Anyway, in trying to decide what to do, I decided to go Bronze Age of comics and make an Annual issue. So we pick up some action with a few survivors from other events in Greywater. The main event is a take on the old Monsters! Monsters! game where the heroes are the monsters innocently living in their dungeon and some evil adventurers invade.
If you are interested in reading the whole comic, you can check it out here:

Wonderful to see your collection of classic figures in action again. I didn't realise it had been so long.
Hopefully you manage to recover the data, it really would be a shame if it is lost.
-
Sorry to hear the hard drive problem is still unresolved. A pleasure to read your latest work. It made me smile and I appreciate that.
-
Agree with the previous sentiments. I love everything about the style and storytelling. Good to see you back, and hope the hard drive debacle becomes one of those funny stories that life gifts us with.

Thanks for the kind words, Rob! Yeah time flies too fast. I hope I can recover my data, too! Hope you are well.

Very glad to hear you liked the latest silliness, Rick! Hearing that it brings a smile makes it all worth it. Hope you can move forward on your own project!

Hey, Andrew, good to hear from you. Certainly been a while. I'm glad you enjoyed the comic. The hard drive problem is a strange gift, but maybe it has made me wiser already. I hope you are well, amigo!

As the Bard says "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so."
Anyone with your sense of jest will certainly find the humorous points in these circumstances.
"But have you ever REALLY read the Necronomicon?"
Priceless.
